    Looks amazing. I was thinking about doing a project build and a blue burst is a look I've always loved. Great job!

    Would cotton balls or squares work good for applying stain? Also, do you worry about contaminating the job from the vape?

      Hi, for me there is nothing better than pure white cotton t shirts cut into squares about 4"x4" about in size. thinner undershirts but pure white and washed many times so they leave the least amount of fibers and thicker material holds too much dye for my tech. If I want to do a large area I'll make something resembling a (Fad) term used by craftspeople doing a "French Polish" Just a larger square of the t shirt squares wrapped around a few smaller squares bunched up and you flatten it. There is a point especially with maple where if you oversaturate the wood, it will literally push it back out through pores or end grain if figured. Looks like bubbles and must be sanded away when it's a lot of pigments, then re dyed. This is (what works for me and how I do things) by no means the right or only way. I learn still to this day every single time I add color to anything so I always keep scraps and off cuts of the woods in the builds to test on. Show the customer and get a "OK" to move forward. Cheers
      Such an old video, I need to make a public apology to anyone who had listened to my painfully narrated by me videos ever. I suck, I know, that's why I concentrate on our shop and getting things done. There are great UA-cam guitar video guys like Texas Toast etc.... What a D bag I come off as. LOL That effort I put into the shop and leave the vids to the pros. Good luck brother! Maybe one day when my partners and I get caught up and someone can make something worth posting more than a minute we will. Thanks people.

    Great work! You deserves this amazing maple piece. I'll try to follow your demonstration for a nice piece of flamed ash. Thanks for the video.

    Hi. Thanks for such an informative video. I’m trying to source these dyes in Israel and can’t find them. Do you have experience with angelus dyes and your prefer these over them?

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  Рік тому

      There are a lot of guitar builders and people using Angelus leather dyes for wood. The dye will fade in the sun in days it is cheap and not very long lasting at all. I personally use Keda, and Transtint but there are other good quality dye companies. I have a video on light fastness of these dyes. You will see... You pay for what you get...

    Before this video, did you do a coat of black and sand that back to get the grain to pop more, or was it all just what we see here? Thanks so much.

    Looks amazing, wondering if ya used a super light black mixed with alcohol, would it bring out the grands more in the light blue to darker? Never stained a guitar so I don’t know

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  Рік тому

      Thank you, there were about 7 steps in the dying process. Some water some alcohol depends which step. Everyone is a little different depending on the wood and what I'm trying to get close to.

    Do you assemble the guitar before you dye it to make sure that it plays ok? Then disassemble?

      I do make sure the neck angle and center line, bridge placement is correct. I don't do more than attach neck and check by hand. Absolutely I do, yes.

    do you use a seal coat or wood conditioner on the top before you stain or after?

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  Рік тому

      Hi Bob, I do condition to maple to even out my dye work. Nothing you buy other than Titebond 1 and some water. Every piece of wood I do slightly differently depending on what I am going for. Not after.

    I'm working on a similar model, same dying tho, and mine looks nothing like that. 12 coats of dye already, barely blue Any suggestions?

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  Рік тому

      Hi Paul, there could be many things that may keep it from getting intense color. I would ask what kind of dye are you using? How concentrated is it? What wood are you dying, and maybe most importantly did you keep it to a 220 or lower grit finish? Too mush sanding can burnish the surface keepi8ng dye from penetrating deep into the wood. If you have off cuts and scraps to test with first that great. I always always test first so i can adjust as much as possible. Keep going you can always sand some and re dye. I have has to myself for sure.

    Is there a part 2?

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  6 місяців тому

      Hi Brendon, I used to have about 170 videos up. Many were older or bad, or both. I had some comments that letting me know I talk too much or over explain so I just decided to take most of it down. It takes a lot to have great content and be entertaining while trying to run a real shop for myself. Maybe get back into it later if I can get some help. Sorry for the missing vids.

      @@PranaCustomGuitars All good. This is the color I want to paint my kit and I just really want it to turn out glossy and have a beautiful burst to it. Feels like thats the next steps you'd be taking so was hoping to see how you do (did) it.

    Do you grain fill before doing your stain?

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  Рік тому +1

      Most of the time yes. Here yes I did not so much in the maple just the back and sides. A dyed epoxy because the body wood was soft as a bar of soap. Seemed like it but light as air.

      I have a quilted guitar kit right now. I’m going to use blue stain as well. With the veneer so thin I don’t think I can do the black first and sand it off then apply the blue…just worried about sanding through the veneer.

    Are you using denatured alcohol to mix all of the dyes?

    • @PranaCustomGuitars
      @PranaCustomGuitars  2 роки тому

      No sir, depends on what stage of the layers I am doing. Sometimes water, alcohol, and sometimes water and PVA glue as well. There is a few videos on this guitar body I think posted. I think I remember going over all the steps for this guy. Thanks.

    Do you ever use (Real) gold “foil”? Do you have a video showing the completed guitar? (I love the color like it shows here ..... LOVE it.)

    • @PranaCustomGuitars

      Thanks man! Eli has to spray it with clear coat and we have a lot of projects going and deadlines. Should be done in a couple months the finishing takes weeks between some coats in our process. Cheers man! No gold on guitars I have used it as a chef and I would use it I wouldn't want it to be a main feature but an accent yes great idea.

      Hi, I actually buy my Transtint dyes right at Woodcraft except Aqua where I could only on eBay. I bought a few Transtint colors repackaged on Stuart Macky's site. Keda I have just picked up on eBay. So I really don't buy from 1 site. I buy all over.
