- On August 5th, 2023, I set out for my first big bike trip. I would go from Abbotsford, BC, up to the Yukon, and back to my home in Winnipeg, MB. I went alone, and right after I graduated high school at 18 years old. This is a video summarizing my experience.

I watched the entire thing and it was worthwhile. Thank you! I was impressed with the caliber of young man that you are--not one bad word, no swearing, nothing suggestive. Your parents and you are to be commended. In this day, it is wonderful to be able to watch and listen for over two hours to an eighteen-year-old young man and respect and admire you. Thank you! Thank you! What a beautiful country!
Thank you very much! I’m very thankful to have been raised good. That’s quite a long watch to watch the whole thing, but I’m glad you liked it!
-Liam
I have to echo your words ... you said just what I was thinking. He is exactly what we would love to see in all our youth today. What an amazing young man.
Yeah!! Well done boy!! Outstanding and your attitude is amazing!!! 🎉
What a great watch, congratulations. Wish I had the guts to do something like that.
All the best.
Wow, what an accomplishment for you!
Am amazed at how you not only had the stamina to ride your bike all that distance and through so many challenges, but you also found the time to document your trip with video and commentary including drone footage! That had to be a lot of work. Well done Liam, well done indeed.
Thank you! It’s a lot of work for an amazing experience.
Liam, outstanding man, seriously well done.
I’m an old man, at least that’s what I see when I look in the mirror.I’ve been on my bike since I was 5 and I’m now 61. I ride full time in Ontario, four seasons and I know how much work a trip like that is.
I’ll watch the entire video tomorrow, super impressive man, great job!
Rick
That’s amazing! Riding year round is a lot more challenging, especially here in Canada. Thank you very much!
Thank you very much!
Liam, thank you for sharing your journey. I have had many adventures in my life, and am a lifelong cyclist, but nothing like your voyage. I grew up in Edmonton, now living in the states. I hate traffic and the thought of driving on the highway between Edmonton and Calgary sends shivers down my back. I have been hit 4 times myself by cars so I certainly know of the dangers you face. That noted, maybe you should rename this "Bear Run". May you have many more journeys, a true Voyager a credit to your Canadian heritage,
That’s awesome. Cycling is a great way to get around, definitely risky though. I knew the stretch between Edmonton and Calgary would be busy, but most cars still move over, and it is a very nice shoulder. There are times definitely in the city where it gets stressful, but it all worked out. Being hit 4 times is crazy, really shows that the danger is real. Glad you’re alive!
I really enjoyed watching your video. It was wonderful sharing your adventure with you. You made some memories that will last your lifetime. I had dreams of doing a cross Canada bike trip when I was younger, which I never did. It is nice to see you follow through and achieve your dream and what an incredible way to start the next chapter of your life after finishing grade school.
Thank you! It sure is a pretty neat way to see Canada
Watched the entire video. Beautifully done. Extremely inspirational. The look on your mom's face at the end was priceless. I hope you keep on riding.
Thank you! It was really great getting home!
Very Big Step at 18! LOVE FROM IRAN💚💚💚💚💚🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
Liam, you are amazing to say the least! So brave, so young and so wise! I couldn't be more proud of you if you were my own son. Your photography is outstanding and your adventures are an inspiration! Thank you for doing this awesome project and sharing it!!!
Thank you, appreciate it!
A remarkable adventure Liam with a simple message… Nature is a joy to behold and experience, not least the kindness of other likeminded adventurers you meet along the way.
Truly inspiring and thank you for sharing your story Liam. You clearly have a gift for documenting and narrating. Looking forward to seeing many more adventures Liam. Stay safe and healthy 🇨🇦
Thank you! It’s a great way to see nature, meet people, and push yourself! Thank you, God bless
You are a very Brave MAN and best role model for all those wasted kids in Canada. Also you are getting more popular in other side of the World "IRAN" 😀
Thank you! That’s so cool you’re watching all the way from Iran! Thanks man
Iranian are hot😀😀😀😀😀I mean Iran is Hot too 😍😍😍😍😍
What an adventure, and beautifully documented!
You are an inspiration Liam. Congratulations on your achievement and thank you for sharing it with us all.
We were waiting to see what you were up to this summer! You have accomplished what very few people have hope to do! Way to go!!! Some stunning footage! 15 % grades...crazy!
Thank you! 15% was the worst I had, thankfully
@@liamrichard 15 % grade is intense...looks like you only suffered 2 flats? We had 8 this summer. 4 of them in a 20 km strip believe it or not!
@@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887 That’s definitely a lot more than me. It’s always a pain having to stop part way throughout the day to patch it or replace. Those 4 must’ve sucked
@@liamrichard ya,.the first one was just before the Alison pass some 1400 m...+38 degrees
@@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887 Man, that wouldn’t be a fun day of biking
Spectacular video of a magnificent adventure !
Having watched a wide variety of travel videos, yours is number one.
May you have many more awesome adventures and safe travels.
Tres Bien.
😎
Thank you!
Amazing job. You received an amazing amount of what Ryan VanDuzer calls trail magic. We have found in our travels that there are a lot of really good people on this planet, although the media would have you believe different, you have now experienced that first hand. If you approach the rest of your life with that determination you will go very far. Looking forward to more from you. Waves high from Ontario.
Thank you! It really is great to get away from what the media says, and really see what the world is like. So many friendly people out there, I wish more people would see.
so true in your words and the wisdom they have. Cheers and Duzer is a little goofy but he is great.
When you arrived home early, and that voice (so excited to see you) reminded me of my mom's voice on the rare occasions that i was able to visit Idaho from Seattle. It was really emotional for me.
That’s so nice. Such great memories, glad you could experience!
Excellent video. You impressed me with camping when the bears were so close. Now I want you to go get a haircut! 😂 kidding of course
Haha thank you! I got a haircut a few weeks ago, I did really need it lol
Incredible Journey and beautifully documented. I felt completely blessed to be able to watch your travels on your bike Liam. Thank you.
Glad you were able to enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
Great job! I used to do bike touring ages ago, so it was great to experience it with you like this! I now motorbike camp from Southern BC to the Yukon every couple of years and it was also great to see that again! Thank you for all the work you put into sharing this!
Well done and I'm not even half way through. It's inspiring to see a young man and his passion, keep it up Liam!
Thank you! Thanks to family and friends for all the encouragement!
Amazing William, such a remarkable achievement for a 18 year old lad. You are truly an inspiration for other. Keep up the good work, really looking forward for more amazing content like this.
Thank you!
Amazing trip you took !! My wife and I could not stop watching the video .Hats off to your willpower to do this trip.Such an inspiration to watch. God bless you
Thank you very much! Glad you liked it! God bless
Really enjoyed your entire bike trip, loved your photography. I have been to most of the places you visited. So it was a reminder of the many beautiful spots western Canada has to offer. Thanks for the memories!!
Thank you! It’s really quite beautiful
Great video. You are a tough dude!
I normally do not watch anything on UA-cam past half hour but your film was compelling. I have ridden some of those roads and places you rode in British Columbia and it is spectacular out there. I think you did an excellent job making the content entertaining specially the highway miles, those are boring to ride and much more to see in a video but yours were quite great. Congratulations in such a great expedition and it is my hope this is not your last one. You have mentioned two things on this journey that stood out to me, one , was meeting the Japanese fellow who at 81 is still riding his bicycle and seen this world, two, regarding when you get older, this trip is really going to mean so much....I think at your young age, you are already getting the fibers for the blanket for the winter of your life...as a middle age man, I did not discover the power of bicycle traveling ad exploring until I had decide it bicycle racing was too expensive and too futile to keep pursuing....I can't tell you how much the memories I keep accumulating with bicycle traveling fill my soul , my existence and tell me that my time is the most precious commodity I possess and now that I am getting older, I do not relinquish it to anyone or anything that is not worth while. Sorry for the long comment but I think your adventure is nothing to undermine and to extremely admire. Cheers and keep exploring....
Thank you very much! Riding for hours definitely had its boring parts, but I always found something interesting to look at. Even in the prairies, I didn’t find it as boring as I had other times before. And yes, that 81 year old guy was amazing. I wish more people will meet him. He said that would be his last big bike trip, but that it’s well worth it. It’s so cool to have found a “simple” thing to do, but something to make memories for sure! Glad you’ve found that. Thanks for the comment! Take care
Dude the production quality on this video is top notch. Deserves WAY more than 10k views. Congrats on your trip! See you on the road!
Thank you very much! I’m blown away by how it got 10k views already!
Way to live life man. You’ve got an amazing future. The video is excellent and inspiring. You’re seriously mature
Thanks man
Awesome adventure Liam! You are so inspiring! Love the way you included other adventurers on your travels.
You capture the essence of a trip like this in an inspiring understated way. Somehow you managed to take me back in time to the days when I did a similar trip. Good on you!
That’s awesome! Thank you
Amazing trip. Enjoyed every minute of it. I admire your determination to bike every day no matter what the weather was doing.
It was dangerous too with all the bears around.
Thank you for the ride❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just thru the first hour. VERY IMPRESSIVE Liam!!!! You are an inspiring young man. Love your sense of adventure !!!!
Thank you very much!
Liam. What a moving video. The simple beauty of adventure was so well captured in this. Thanks for sharing. Congratulations on this achievement.
Awesome journey very well documented. Thank you for sharing.
Great video man. What a trip to travel up in Northern Canada. Interesting route and dialogue along the way. I'm sure you'll always remember this trip.
Thanks man!
Well done you. I am hugely impressed by you and you should be very proud of yourself for what you have achieved. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I really enjoyed watching this. These are memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Never lose the curiosity to see what is just beyond the horizon..... everyday will bring something new and exciting.
25 seconds in and I subbed. You are a legend dude I will watch it all. Love your voice and how this is starting, this is your purpose don't stop.
Really appreciate it! Thanks man
Amazing video, truly inspiring.

I really enjoyed your video. What a great adventure at age 18. You can be proud of yourself for this achievement. Greetz from the Netherlands
Incredible! Good for you! Take this with you for the rest of your life!
Thank you! I definitely will!
What an amazing adventure you undertook at such a young age and definitely one you'll never forget. The scenery from start to finish is outstanding and you really showed your country off. I'm sure whatever you choose to do now you will excel at. Very well done.
Thank you! Definitely well worth it looking back now!
Liam, this is amazing! You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your incredible journey.
Thank you!
That was absolutely epic ! The quality of your filming ,the editing, the sound ,your presentation, you are a natural and you made this an easy and enjoyable watch .🎥🚲👌🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you so much!
Outstanding! Couldn’t fall asleep? Should have gone out back and pitched your tent…😆. That for taking us along!
Haha, I definitely should’ve!
I truly enjoyed your adventure and I'm very proud of you. I didn't start bike touring until I was in my 30's. I did thirteen years, 13 states and part of Canada. I wish I would have started when you did, you are a lot more flexible. I hope you continue on some level the rest of your life. There is nothing like it. Thanks for sharing.
There's definitely nothing like it. Every experience is different. I'll definitely be continuing with smaller trips, maybe a few bigger ones every few years. Cheers
Such an inspirational trip. I am sure you inspired so many others to take the step forward to do a bike tour self contained. I am very happy that I found your chronicle included in my newsletter from Adventure Cycling Association. Thank you so muchfor sharing it and congratulations Liam. Brian M.
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching. I’d love to see the newsletter if that’s possible. Cheers
I have tried twice so far to post the http of the newsletter at Adventure Cycling that listed your video to be seen for inspiration. Each time I have come back to see it you received my reply I have seen that my reply is gone. I don't get it. I hope to figure it out or if you have an incite please share. Brian
William (my grandfather's name) He rode his bike on country roads (10 miles per day) until a week before he passed away at age 94. Your journey reminded me of him. He spread his riding out over a lifetime (10 miles at a time), you did yours in weeks.. :) Thanks for reminding me about the challenges and Joys of riding. It's quite an accomplishment. If you get down into the states (Oregon) reach out, i have room to host. Cheers
My grandfather would have said, "finding those sun glasses, banana/gator-aid is God's way of providing"
I’m glad the video was able to remind you of him. It really was amazing how God provided during the trip. There were so many things that I could name. Thank you, and God bless.
I live in Florida and saw the video and watched the whole thing. I am proud of you at 18 that you did this. At 64 I can tell you that what you do now you will always treasure. Your parents must be so proud of you. What model Fuji bike did you ride? Please post more adventures. Just think already 55 thousand people have shared your ride!
That's awesome, thank you very much! The bike was the Fuji Traverse 1.7. I'll definitely be posting more in the future. Thanks again!
Love your video! Please keep riding and sharing with those of us that can only experience a trip like that through the power of others, UA-cam and indoor cycling. Stay active, happy and safe!
that was a fantastic trip!! thx for sharing it with us... it was a true ride along!!
Thank you!
What a compelling video! If you can do this, you can do anything.
My husband and I watched your entire trip , very inspirational for the young generation. Good for you!
That’s so cool, thank you!
I watched the whole thing. I’m a road cyclist so it was amazing to see your video. Also to see my own province (BC)and others from a bike perspective. Well done. 👏Thank you!🇨🇦
Fantastische uitdaging. Geweldig gedaan!! Greetings from the Netherlands (Europe)
I enjoyed watching this so much I think you did a fantastic job. Not too much talk beautiful scenery and your choice of music was fantastic just a totally enjoyable experience all round. Well done I hope you post more videos in the future
Thank you very much!
Remarkable. Really enjoyed watching your journey. You'll remember this for the rest of your life. Very inspiring!
Glad you liked it, and found it inspiring!
Oh man! I flew from India to Vancouver to cycle there and had some of the best encounters with the loveliest and most helpful people. Also encountered the forest fires on my way to Jasper, Alberta. On the way, at Revelstoke I stopped by at The Yogi Bear cabin. And at Hi Jasper hostel in Jasper.
Loved every bit of it and loved the most helpful, kind, sweet people of Canada.
That’s really amazing! There’s such nice people, especially compared to what the media makes it seem like. That must’ve been a beautiful ride!
@@liamrichard yes. Especially for one who's 55 yrs old. The places are amazing, but the love and generosity of the people simply amazed me. My love and gratitude to all Canadians whom I encountered and were just good humans for the sake of being good humans.
respect to you at 18 to do such a trip....am 66 years old and in summer take long distance trips...last year London to Nice...great way to see a country..thank you for share stay healthy

Liam, what a great adventure. Great video. I always loved bicycle touring adventures
Amazing ride bro, the background music was good, good content, was focussed the whole way
Gotta respect the land bro, never litter, fk all those who does, you seem like a solid guy
Thank you! That’s good to hear. There’s definitely a lot of things on the side of the road, often trash, but sometimes something interesting too
I just found your channel. UA-cam auto-started your video after I had just finished watching another cycling channel that I follow. It was very fortuitous for me. I am a 62 year old cyclist junkie, especially bike touring. Ive watched a lot of great videos, but none of a young man like yourself taking on a challenging solo tour of such magnitude. I'm still watching the video, but just wanted to say I'm already hooked. Great job young man and Happy Trails...🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️
That’s awesome! Thank you very much
Inspiring. Bravo!!!
That was one amazing video. Awesome! You had the time of your life. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful experience. Great job!
Wow. You went so far each day. With broken bike and wind and rain. I was so impressed. But those cars and trucks next you. Especially in the rain! Yuck. Great job
A good vibe video if there ever was one. A trip to remember for a lifetime.
Thank you for sharing your trip, it looked absolutely amazing and you have inspired me to think about bigger adventures
Amazing trip - congratulations! The bison herd crossing the road is unforgettable footage.
There is something addictive about travelling at bicycle speed, under your own power, carrying everything you need on the back. Hope it's the first trip of many for you - there are so many places in the world to see, and most are better seen on a bike. 🙂
Thank you! The bison were definitely a highlight of the trip. Hoping that one day I’ll get another opportunity for something like this again
Congratulations on accomplishing your dream.
Awesome trip!
I loved seeing the other long distance riders along the way.
Thanks for sharing your trip.
I enjoyed every minute.
Thank you! Meeting all those other bikers was so cool.
Well done Liam. I had to smile at the end when you posted "that's it". 😀Young man, I see many, many more awesome adventures in your future.
Thank you! I hope to continue doing bike trips in the future!
great work and accomplishment!
Thank you for sharing your bike journey. That was a huge adventure.Salute...
Awesome video and what a great adventure! So glad for you that you did it. That’s an amazing accomplishment and you got to see things no one else really sees. Just, wow. Congrats!
Thank you!
Very impressed liam. You did it the hard way, camping then cycling. I've seen other similar epic canadian cycling journeys, nothing to match yours. The other one I saw was some canadian who thought he was french. He had an easy ride, he spent most of his time in motels or staying with friends or relatives. You done it the hard way. Amazing , best wishes from Liverpool u.k.
Thanks man! I loved the camping part of it, being able to pitch a tent nearly anywhere you want, adds so much to the trip
nice video and best enjoy views
Kudos ..i watched the whole video ...That was achievement your should be happy and proud of ..on your own as well ....Kudos ...and returning home after the adventure only makes you and family remember how much family means ....Respect to you
I'll be watching it in bits and pieces but I'm sure it will be fun.
bro I'm 18 too I'm happy to see others my age do the same things, I'm gonna subscribe
@@ImKezo-kq4pq Not many people do stuff like this, especially at our age
Awsome bro you and all those who have the adventure to go it alone and bring us with .thanks
Wow.. Be proud of yourself for that amazing accomplishment!! Not many teenagers could accomplish that kinda of trip solo!!
I very much enjoyed your video.. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you! I’m very thankful for the opportunity I had to do it
Will I follow a lot of different people and you I just ran into, And this is indeed a wonderful video. Beautiful scenery, beautiful music, beautiful commentary, and you are a lot of fun for this grandma to travel with. You be blessed

You are to be congratulated not only for your accomplishment of the challenges of such a spectacular ride but also for being an amazing young man> I am so happy to have found your video this morning. I wish you all the best for new and exciting adventures.

best couple of hours i've spent in a while.
i miss the prairies so it was a real pleasure to soak it all in.

thnx very much for another enjoyable ride.
Thank you, glad to hear that. 112km in a day is quite good, and something to be proud of for sure!

Great job!! I followed along your progress and enjoyed every minute. I’ve done most of it by motorcycle but not by pedal bike. Guess I need to do that now. Definitely would have hosted you in South Edmonton but you just started your day. Thanks again.
