    You can click that valve on the trekology pillow with your finger before blowing it up and it will trap the air until you fill it and close it.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. Just for your personal reference, it’s pronounced “R-E-I” not “ray”. It’s the initials for Recreational Equipment Incorporated. It’s a great store. Love their stuff.

    6:28 chemicals are a massive water issue. With germs boiling your water will eliminate them. You can look up the safe boiling time for germ removal. It wont matter if it’s bacterial or viral or any other microorganisms

    In the states we say R.E.I. as separate letters since it is an acronym for Recreational Equipment Inc. rather than "ray". I like your gear reviews, just watched the Teton Sports Scout 3400 vs. 4000 one and it was helpful.

      FYI it’s an Initialism like F.B.I, Not an acronym as in LASER ( Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) If it was an acronym then he got it spot on. Although the ‘Ray” rather than R.E.I. Was a Little off putting the fact that it encouraged you to comment has more than made up for it. Also I now know what REI stands for, thanks.

    Incase no one in the comments explained "belly of the beast"
    Belly = stomach
    Beast = massive scary animal
    So the phase means "venturing into the depths of a potentially scary location"
    Pretty much that.

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 роки тому +3

      Eastern European sense of humor.. haha.
      It's in USD because most of my audience is in the U.S (according to UA-cam), and I purchased a lot of my gear from R.E.I. in dollars. The ones which I got in EUR were converted to USD. Also, because over 50% of the people watching are from the U.S., I try to remember to put measurements in imperial metrics as well.

Yo poseeo una mochila de la Marca Black Diamond y es espectacular y con muchas prestaciones técnicas si se la usa en media y alta montaña. Aún no he usado OSPREY pero tuve la oportunidad de examinarla y me pareció muy buena. Cordial saludo desde Argentina!

      @OscarHikes  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I've only tried a diy tarp/shelter once with some of my friends. Anwyay, at the places where I'm hiking now, I don't think a tarp would be sufficient, as the winds can easily go over 50 m/s, and there's a chance of sudden rainstorms. Also, no hammocks because of the lack of trees. I am considering trying out a bivy though.

    What do you think about a sleeping bag liner? Instead of a whole new sleeping bag. It's less expensive, keeps your sleeping bag from getting dirty and you'll be able to stay warm in colder conditions

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 роки тому

      I use a sleeping bag liner all the time to help keep my bag clean and it does add a little warmth. If HikeMuch is curious of some good sleeping bag companies in the US, the more renowned ones are Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends. I use a WM Alpinlite for my summer bag usually sleeping in the Colorado mountains.I am exploring getting a quilt at some point to see if the weight savings are worth it.

    6:00 I just use those mini toothbrushes and mini tubes of paste from those little toiletry kits they sell at drug stores and dollar stores. I don't even buy them because I keep getting free kits from little street fairs and health events in my town anyway but they're pretty easy to get. Some of them have a whole collection of mini stuff you can use, a mini mouthwash, mini deodorant, even a razor and mini tube of shaving cream in one that I got. I took the stuff out of one kit and used the nice durable zipper bag it came in to hold my first aid items too.

    Just found your chanel and love it!!!! I live in Brazil and just started on trekking adventures. My backpack is very similar to yours, it is a model osprey kyte 46L (but maybe smaller because it's size xs) and i recently used it for a 3 day trekking in the summer at the beach and all my stuff fit on it. Now i am searching for a good 3rd layer waterproof jacket for mountains and colder climate (in brazilian mountains). I've been searching the north face ones but still havent decided if i am buying a resolve 2 or a venture 2 model. I am very thin and feel a lot of cold but venture 2 doesnt look very durable on the inside. I am afraid it wont last vey long, considering the high price of it here. How long have you been using yours? Which one would you recommend me, the venture or the resolve model? Thanks for sharing so much good information with us!

    Sveiks, liela daļa ekipējuma ir no ASV - kā Tu to iegādājies, vai nav sarežģīta un laikietilpīga bakstīšanās ar visiem papildus PVN un muitām, kas turklāt vēl pamatīgi sadārdzina šos produktus?

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 роки тому

      Sveiks! Galvenokārt visas preces ir no Amazon.de vai Rei.com. Noteikti neieteiktu sūtīt no Rei.com, jo, pirmkārt, jāgaida 1-2 mēneši kamēr atsūta, un pēc tam vēl muita + pvn jāmaksā. Es principā iegādājos tieši tās preces, jo lielākā daļa no maniem skatītājiem ir no USA, un vēlējos iztestēt viņiem aktuālu ekipējumu. Žēl, ka rei.com nav intereses izplesties Eiropas tirgū, jo viņiem ir diez gan labas un lētas preces reizēm. Bet nu latvijā es laikam ieteiktu tikai no Eiropas kaut ko sūtīt. Virsotne, Gandrs, Decathlon, Amazon.de laikam būtu mani favorīti. Pagaidām nezinu nevienu Eiropas Rei.com alternatīvu, bet ja tā godīgi, neesmu baigi meklējis. EDIT: Šeit pāris alternatīvas uzrādītas. www.reddit.com/r/CampingGear/comments/20xw5j/online_shops_in_europe_thats_similar_to_rei/ Kaut kad varētu pamēģināt www.bergfreunde.de

    Nice video mate, but 947 USD isn't "cheap" ha!

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 роки тому +3

      I already thought someone would comment that when editing the video. :D I'll change the title & thumbnail to "affordable" because I think that describes that better. It ended up 947 USD because this gear needed to be ultralight, useable below 0 degrees Celsius, and I wouldn't settle for unknown brands on my most critical pieces of gear.
      I don't wanna diss, but other youtubers often don't include the price of some items included in their "cheap" gear lists, so the total price ends up being pretty similar to what I had here, or their gear is meant only for summer camping. Honestly, if you'd do more research, wait for sales, e.t.c. I think you could probably go a bit below 800$, but not much below that. Ultralight gear is damn expensive.
      EDIT: Cool channel btw, subscribed. I want to hike the Pyrenees so bad, but some of the northern Spain regions already closed their borders due to Corona. Hopefully, I can do it in the spring!

    • @TheOneGoodRoad
      @TheOneGoodRoad 3 роки тому +1

      @@OscarHikes Yeah couldn't agree more the price on ultralight gear its insane sometimes. I can only mostly afford the Chinese off-brand gear or decathlon. (or just use 2nd hand gear)
      I'm curious that it seems like you moved from Norway? to Spain. Both stunning for nature in their own way but why Spain? Funny you are around the Sierra Nevada I've been up those mountains before by bike and foot to the Mulhacen, stunning views...
      Now I think about it most Scandinavians move to Spain for the same reasons the British do... Sunshine. Right?
      Yeah, I'm based on the French side of the Pyrenees, not my favourite but I love living nearby the mountains. Not far from Andorra... Regarding the borders, my friend and I drove over there for a day in the snow near Aneto and the border was empty sometimes the small borders have no checkpoints and its fine to cross quiet crossings...
      I'll subscribe back, maybe when the restrictions stop being so over the top... We can collaborate or something?

    • @OscarHikes
      @OscarHikes  3 роки тому +1

      @@TheOneGoodRoad I'm from Latvia. I was just visiting Norway this summer. Norway has some seriously stunning views, even better than Spain IMO, but living there would be 2-3x more expensive compared to Spain, haha. Also, the winters in the fjords could be pretty rough, I imagine. I moved here because of the proximity to the Sierra Nevada, warmer climate, laid-back culture, and cheap-ish living costs.
      With the borders, I ment specific regions of Spain. I think basque country closed their borders because of covid and a few other regions just a few days ago. More will follow probably, but hopefully things get better by spring. I want to do the full GR11 or a part of it, so when that comes closer I'll definitely get in touch and we can figure something out. ;) Also, if you come to Sierra Nevada, make sure to hit me up!
