‘Musical moments’ are the theme of this recital by the versatile pianist; here he turns his attention to Schubert’s small-scale late masterpieces, complementing them with Rachmaninov’s similarly constituted 1898 set.
    Louis Lortie piano
    Rachmaninov and Schubert
    Schubert 6 Moments musicaux D780
    Rachmaninov Moments musicaux Op. 16

Played with such reverence and tenderness ... I am nearly in tears. His performances always touch me deeply.

Very selfless… it’s all about the integrity of the music- not self imposing.. he hides away allowing the music to speak:: perhaps one of the best of his generation Thank you sir

Beautiful velvet smooth tone, interspersed with fire when it’s needed. Lovely musicianship that’s all about the music, not about the interpreter.

This is masterful playing. Lortie seems very comfortable with the instrument, which pulls you in rather than coming out into the hall like a Steinway. Louis Lortie lives in Berlin. We are waiting for his debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra and in particular it is difficult to understand why neither of the two Berlin art and music academies UdK andHfM seem to have any role for him.

I sure hope that he puts out a record of this spectacular pairing and that he feels compelled to do more Schubert. Be it Sonatas or Lieder with some of the great singers out there.

A good Pre-war Blüthner would the best choice for the repertoire.

I have heard the Schubert MUCH more refined and more delicate. In fact, I think it's really careless.

Beautiful performance, but the announcer is really, really annoying…he sounds like classical music snob
    But why no encores?

An excellent performance. He did an outstanding job with a mediocre instrument.

I believe that Lortie has described this very instrument as "the perfect piano".

Assume you're joking about the instrument. So interesting to hear something different from the ubiquitous Steinway, (which he could have chosen if he wanted to).

I didn’t hear anything wrong with the piano, in fact it sounded exactly the way a concert grand should sound (aided by the beautiful acoustics of the hall)

@@jrb5077 He clearly loved playing it and acknowledged the instrument during the applause.
