Played 4 courses here for my 70th birthday. Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay and Spyglass. It’s been 5 years and I’m still loving the experience. Thanks to my Son John for the great memories.
As Californian all I can say is welcome to Spyglass! Your aggressive putting speed really made you pay a high price. I also have never seen you hit so many shots out yo the right.
Thank you for doing this video. Spent 5 years as an Assistant golf pro at Spyglass and watching your video brought back many memories. Home Sweet Home. Don't feel bad, I was in many of the same situations that you were, I feel your pain. Back then the ice plant was much more lush and in play. The deer too. Be glad you didn't end up in that. LOL
@@Logibox0494 I played early and the greens were a bit wet so a tad slower than a 13. I don’t remember it being all that fast. Definitely faster than a course like Harding Park, which has slow greens, but I frequently play Green Hills which has fast greens and lots of false fronts.
Yep, there are a few really hard holes. 1-3 are benign. 4 becomes harder and then it's like every second hole or so is hard. Don't remember my score, but I remember I parred or birdied 17, going to 18 with hopes of a decent score. 18 got me totally. @Granthorvatgolfs, the music, the images, the thoughts have reminded me to enjoy the time spent on the course instead of focusing on the shots...Thanks
I love the direction of which your videos are going at Grant. Just like the Pebble Beach video, it really is a cinematically pleasing piece that you can relax and enjoy to.
This is such an interesting and hard course. I played it on a cold, drizzly, windy day with no caddy. I felt like I was playing at the peak of my potential, but walked away around my average score (82). Can't wait for the opportunity to play it again.
I was lucky to play there this past summer. Easily the toughest course I've ever played. If you're not striking the ball well, it will be a long day. I'm a 3 handicap and shot a 95. Until i started taking more club, every approach was short. Those greens are no joke. Never had so many 3 and 4 putts. Still one of the best days ever. Thank you Grant for playing here. It brought back a lot of good memories.
OMG...deja vu! I ended up in so many of the same spots off the tee, only not from the tips. So crazy how so many decent shots can put you in golf hell.
I laughed so hard when you mentioned it's a Grant Horvat Golf Video after hitting a hard lip out. Your content has been amazing. I personally love genuine reactions like that, keep it up man!!
Thanks. Spyglass is awesome. I played Poppy Hills, Pebble and Spyglass over a weekend 20 years ago. While Pebble is awesome I ❤LOVE❤ Spyglass. Even though it's 20 years ago I remember many shots and I have a vivid memory of the stunning views. It was a pleasure to return to Spyglass in this way and I can't wait to visit back.
Grant, the production work on these streams has been stellar! The quality of the drone shots in particular is just stunning. The golf is just the icing on the cake! 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your lady wife (and Tig and his wife, of course)!
Grant is for sure my favourite UA-cam golfer, just ahead of Pete Finch and I enjoy watching all their videos. However, sometimes as a mid handicapper, their skill level and ability is so beautiful to watch and aspirational, but at the same time, unrelatable. But this video makes me feel like he's really just one of us. He ground out that score, just like we all do. I could really feel his frustration. So instead of just watching an amazing golfer, with a silky swing, hit beautiful shots on great courses, the trials and tribulations he went through give this video, for me at least, a genuine level of engagement that I've not felt before.
WAY to grind. I was lucky enough in the 90"s to play Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay -- Poppy Hills was closed. Our caddie was Gavin the "G-man" and he was fantastic. I loved Spyglass but Pebble was one of those bucket list courses that I will never forget. Great video - Bethpage Black was my home H.S. course and I cannot wait for the Ryder cup there. Thanks for this.
Great to see you struggle once in a while. Real test, great performance. Its amazing that you hace improved your content by doing solo videos. At moment, the best UA-cam golf content. Thanks
Great video. Such a beautiful, challenging golf course. Can't wait to see what you shoot when you next play it now that you've have a better understanding of the holes.

Grant you'll be dreaming about Spyglass, for sure it will have you back soon. Thanks for the videos, you have great content dude. You really make me feel like I'm one of your buddies on the course with you. Thank you for that. Please keep up the great work.
Grant i felt the same way when i played out here. Its so tough to get used to these types of tracks. The ball just reacts so differently than what we are used to. You didnt hit a "bad" shot and still made a triple, then your flop on the next hole looks great and winds up 10 feet away. Such a tough track and easily a top 5 for me. I enjoyed this course over Pebble.
Grant! Amazing video. Well done and good playing. I took my dad to do 5 rounds last year and this brought back some amazing memories. I had almost the exact same pin locations as you at Spyglass and had to laugh on a couple. Not at you but because I experienced the exact same thing. 9 green stands out to me so much as I had quite the downhill putt to that same front pin. Thanks for the video! Come to the Calgary Alberta area. Some insane mountain courses you gotta play. Banff Springs, Jasper Park Lodge, Stewart Creek, Silvertip and both 18’s at Kananaskis. I’d love to host ya.

Knowing the layout is great, but having someone tell you where to hit the putts can be really difficult on our psyche upon execution. little surprised at the construction vehicles around on a few of the holes.
Grant is so good lol, this is an off day and still hardly made a mistake, many were just things you would pick up on with playing the course a couple times
I enjoy watching your vdo. On the top right corner that show hole number and distance, after tee offf shot, if you can add more information what the distance left and what iron you use, it would be much appreciated.
SUCH a tough course! played there and pebble back in 2010 with my dad and uncle. shot 76 at pebble and slugged it out on spyglass for a 79 with a bird on the 18th lol! love your videos. keep doing your thing buddy!
I was very impressed with his attitude and lack of profanity, especially with his difficult scores. But everything was explained when he thanked the Lord after coming so close on the par 3! Great to see guys like this on the tour!
Best video yet Grant. Watching the ups and downs throughout the round really connects with the average golfer. Well done Sir. That thumbnail though…..😂.
Wow! To shoot par you must have a sweet soft long fairway-finder driver. Low irons that land on a table-top somewhere below the hole. You want the Hovland bean-bag irons that hit and stop. Any ball with high backspin might suck back 30yds.
Thing is, it's a very tough call in saying "course X is 4, 5, or 9 shots greater or fewer than course Y", because it can be EVERY shot that is tougher. Ergo, a 72 on X doesn't equate to a 76 on Y! Oh no no nooo! As we see here, almost every shot is tougher. Eg, 136 at Royal Cinque Ports, UK off the yellow, is not the same as 144 off the blacks. No sir. I'd love to see Grant or DOD play RCP off the blacks, in Open qualifying setup...maybe in very windy (in the US, you may call it 'unplayable' conditions). It may pelt down with rain too btw. You may need to drill a driver just to be in range with a 3 wd...the weather may be favourable. Have you watched Jeff Ogily's video round here? I love Grant's videos. And he is a great person.
Played Bethpage a few weeks ago. Not my first time. Wind was blowing, and it was brutal. Course is monster with perfect conditions. A fair monster. One mistake and it compounds and snowballs. Was feeling what Grant was saying the first few holes. These greens were ridiculous, though. Played a private club that was rolling like this video. Makes you overthink your approaches and putts when your full wedge rolls off the green or a putt you barely touched rolls on by.
Great video. You have a good attitude towards the game and you certainly got your money's worth today. That approach shot on #4 when it hit the green, ran past the pin and took a left turn out of site was hilarious. Take care.
Insane how fast these greens were :D and crazy how good you score on a "bad day" One thing you gotta explain tho, why did u play the german anthem at 23:30 when the ball rolled over the green, that was harsh for me as a german to watch xD
Nice round. Looks like a very tuff course and tricky greens..Just think if you were golfing without a caddie???? Need a caluclater to add up the score..Fun rounds..Thanks...
1st is a dogleg left and you can’t see the green until you’re about 180 off the tee. You get past the tree line and you look down the steep hill and see a beautiful green complex with the ocean behind it. Spectacular. Phil shot 59 or 60 there in the PB ProAm. I don’t think it’s a lot tougher than Pebble especially if the winds up. If windy PB is tougher.
