😂 Antilles means “Before the Main Islands” it’s the old Portuguese name for navigation sets and was added to charts. Portugal had to hide a lot of their trips and discoveries from Spain as they were in constant struggle to gain super power status at that time against Spain. This is why Portugal kept Brazil off the charts for decades until a treaty with Spain was made for land areas. The Portuguese already had mapped North America from Newfoundland to the Florida eastern coastline even before Columbus set sail, the problem was once Columbus landed in those areas Portugal had already lost the advantage. People forget that Columbus was trained in Portugal and married in Portugal to the daughter of the Vice Roy of the Madeira Islands. This is where his 3 ships stopped before heading to the main trip to the west.
