Hi Dave... W1SWL here... Wow thanks so much for answering my question about the 2nd Story Ham Shack Ground. I was a bit paranoid about the ground when I wrote to you. Since then, I have gotten on the air on the 20m band using my self built and tuned 20M dipole at 50 feet in the air. Signal reports are great to wonderful. In the first 10 days on the air have had SSB QSO's with South Africa, Hawaii, most all of western and Eastern Europe. My ground system appears to work perfectly on 20M so far. And I am as proud as punch that my home brew dipole appears to be a winner. I tuned it (thanks to a video you made on trimming a dipole) using an MFJ Antenna Tuner so that the SWR is 1.2 to 1.3 across the entire General phone band. Thanks so much for your help and I will augment the #6 bare stranded ground wire with 1" solid copper strap in the future when I can get up on the roof of the saltbox safely. Snow up there now... Hi Art, I'm about to setup on the 2nd floor as well. mind explaining to me how you setup? How long is your grounding rod, and is it directly below your window? Approximately how long is the ground wire from the window to the rod? Did you run a bond wire from that grounding rod to the main grounding rod and how long was that run? Did you setup grounding rods in between them? Thanks for the help. I heard that if the grounding wire is too long it can cause resonant signals or something like that. 73 KJ5BPP.

Aluminum Duct Tape works well to make RF grounds or even ground planes on roof joists. Copper tape is also available.
Yes. The aluminum tape with a good adhesive at home depot or lowes in the plumbing or water heater exhaust ducting area of the store is good.
It could be the lamp is vertical and the house is on the side of a hill📐
Copper braid needs protection from exposure (such as inside coaxial cable), otherwise it corrodes and becomes millions of bad noise generating joints. Use copper strap, not braid in ground systems.
