- Miles and Julian sing "Jerusalem".
Bring me my Chariot of Fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant Land. - Розваги
"Professional members of Starfleet"
meanwhile the commander of the whole station is off space sailing to cardassia
Any scene with Bashir and O'Brien is pure gold.
Their bromance is one of my favorite things about this show.
"I hated you when we first met! But now..."
"But now...?"
"Well now, I don't".
My favorite moment in allllll of Star Trek
It also looks like Miles can hold his drink, and is sober enough to realise that singing Jerusalem in Quark's will end badly ;)
Haha!
Well he is Irish, just like the guy that portrayed him so well, Colm Meaney. I’m part Irish an Irish have been drinkers forever
Hehehe O'Brien is so drunk he can't even get the replicator to work.
After all these years I have not notice that until you said it 😂
Best bromance in Trek.
I love how O'Brien can hold his liquor better!
It's an Irish thing lol.
He's used to it
Well, what did you expect -- Indians can't hold their liquor. LOL
try out drinking welsh colliers
@@egosumhomovespertilionem2022 Which is mad considering he's going against a genetically engineered superhuman who can control his hormones at will, and such and such
An Irishman singing Jerusalem? Wow it really is nice and peaceful in the 24th Century. :P
jedsithor after brexit the United Kingdom becomes more united
Jamie Webster no, he’s Indian, he just has his UT set to an English accent like Picard & Troi.
Backup account for Cooldaddyjames. He’s half-English, half-Lebanese
Fact: Originally it was supposed to be Space Oddity by David Bowie. They couldn't get the rights so it was Colm Meaney and Alex Siddig's idea to sing an english drinking song.
As stated above, It would be a miracle that either character would be singing this song. (I've had friends from Commonwealth countries express some rather hard feelings about colonial rule.) Either it was an inopportune choice or things are copacetic on Earth like you are saying. Also, for the record, Alexander Siddig is Sudanese-English, not Lebanese:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Siddig
Finally, the Bashir character was born in London, so the RP accent would probably be real.
Healing from inter generational trauma is.. an Irishman.. belting out Jerusalem, with his buddy.. before giving out a loud, disrespectful "HAH!" at the end. I hope we get here in our lifetimes, folks.
2:30 "I really do! 🤔 Not hate you any more."
Apparently the original script had them singing "Rocket Man" by Elton John.
Aww! That would have been hilarious!
Just like Shatner!
For all I love hearing them sing this because it sounds so silly, I think Rocket Man would have been better personally. :P
They couldnt get the rights
Rocket Man or Space Oddity would thematically fit the ep. This, though, worked, as both characters are from the English sphere of influence and it shows them both cultured, familiar with drinking songs and the copacetic state of culture of people who live in those spheres in the 24th century. This moment was as Trek as it gets without involving a zooming space ship.
O'Brian is a man's man. He can tell you his feelings, but not quite fully... "I used to hate you, but now I don't."
This is why DS9 is one of my favorite Trek series.
I really hope they did this while method acting
Hic
I love when friends talk drunk. Most times makes no sense to anyone, yet those friends 2, 3 or 4, it all makes perfect sense to them!
Sweet Jesus, I just stumbled upon footage of me and my little brother.
This is what I want my friendships to be like. Just hanging out, singing some shanties and possibly drinking a bit too much.
I like Julian Bashir in this state😝. Julian and the chef are really very funny when they are drunk.😝
Laurence Lajoie O’Brien can really cook.
@@backupaccountforcooldaddyj7895 I'd give anything for a big fat dollop of O'Brien's potato casserole.
I love that they were drinking buddies irl
This is so wholesome
Gosh, great stuff. These two will never get old in peoples' memories. Time will go on & people will look back at this scene in a hundred years & laugh, cry and all the rest, just like we did when we watched it for the first time.
My God I remember watching this on TV when it actually first aired lmao
I really do . . . not hate you anymore 🤣🤣🤣
Only the camping scene in Star Trek 5 beats this.
I really love this scene, but by Kahless' Hand, how in the shit did they NOT have them singing "Minstrel Boy"?!
This scene was so bloody amazing lol
.. and very shortly thereafter Keiko and young Molly enter on a surprise visit from Bajor.
Funny how Colm Meany is a stanch Irish Republican and Sinn Fein/IRA supporter singing such a English song , Colm supported Martin Mcguinness when he ran for the office of Irish President
the IRA united Ireland in 2024 according to Star Trek sooo
Based Colm
This scene is extremely relatable.
Wish it was minstrel boy, or as a nod to the original series, I’ll take you home again Kathleen!
I just listened to, "Oo-De-Lally," from Disney's, "Robin Hood." I instantly thought of Bashir and O'Brien. :D
Miles and Julian running through the forest
Jumping fences, dodging trees tryin to get away.
I never thought of "Jerusalem" as a drinking song.
When you’re that drunk, anything can be a drinking song
I love this scene!
Great bromance scene!
It's interesting, it's so rare to see anyone in Star Trek laughing.
Sounds like you haven't seen much Star Trek
I wouldn't exactly call England's National Hymn "Jerusalem" a drinking song, even though I'm sure it's been sung drunk innumerable times.
Ironically, the melody for America's anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner", actually used to BE a drinking song!
You would have to be drunk and squeezing your testicles to hit the high notes of "The Star-Spangled Banner" as it was originally written.
I mean what could be more american than making a drinking song into our anthem??
@@tadious9415 launching an imperialist war against democracy on a global scale. The most Muh'rican thing.
This scene is tied with the, "Buffy gets drunk with Spike," moments in, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ("Life Serial") as my favorite, "Main characters get drunk," moment. :D
I dont hate you Dr Bashir ;-) x
i LOVE this scene in season 3 !!!!! ^-^
I love DS9 & esp these two :-)
That I would have really liked to see!!!!
... I genuinely do this too when I'm drunk. Oh to be a Rugby League fan...
Pure gold
Never pegged Miles as a Protestant
I really do!... not hate you anymore!
I first heard this song on the Chariots of Fire soundtrack.
Colm must have hated filming this scene lmao.
Well with practice, I'm sure you guys will get there
This smells of no homo.
Lmao
0:15 WTF? Did I just watch an irishman turn down a drink??
Since we don't see the glass in the shot, it's possible Miles is getting Julian to NOT pour the drink on the floor....
I aspire to these men and this scene.
I loved Bashir's character before they decided to make him "genetically enhanced". It's so frustrating, they changed his character and now he seems more angry and serious. You can tell he hated it. I loved the more down to earth, happy Bashir. =( I'm in the middle of season 6 and I just don't enjoy watching it as much now. I watched it specifically because I loved Dr. Bashir's character and I can't believe they changed him! I suppose they did it because his ratings were low, which I don't even see how that is possible... Dr. Bashir was always my favorite. He was so sweet and kind and now he's a robot in the later episodes...grr
BlinkinFirefly Sounds like the desperate ploy of awful writers.
Cynicalguy89 Indeed
BlinkinFirefly
I am the opposite opinion. I don't think Bashir hated the part and I loved the idea he was a non crazy genetically superior individual who didn't flaunt it. He used his abilities when he needed too and reminded others he had a quicker mind and enhanced skills when they forgot or doubted him. Bashir to me doesn't seem less happy because of the that plot change but because now they are in a bad and bloody war with death and dying so maybe he has matured enough and is feeling the effects of a war no one saw coming and how brutal it has been on everyone. He still had his great cheerful moments through out the rest of the season :)
Wars will do that to ya.
Bashir is the weakest character in DS9. He mostly annoys me.
I was laughing so loud I couldn’t hear the dialogue
"But now...?"
LOL
I see extensive research was done down at many a local
And here I thought "Jerusalem" began with Emerson, Lake, & Palmer.
If Julian was augmented, making him better in most areas to regular humans, in both intelligence and eye and hand coordination at least. What about his metabolism and or ability to take alcohol?
Guess his parents wanted just specific things to be improved and metabolism was not one of them. :D
Alcohol is poison. The ideal response is probably to puke it out as soon as ingested. That's no fun though
JERUSALEM
This is the The scene of true Bromance ha ha
Besties
I want a mattress!
Misty Mountains - The Hobbit))
This begs the question: Would Dr. Bashir's augmented and enhanced abilities allow him to recover from alcohol faster than generations of Irish lineage and alcoholic evolution? Also, would Sid actually drink alcohol in real life, as I believe he is a practicing Muslim?
That's no SYNTHANOL!
Well I think he wanted to finish the song first...
Jerusalem! Someone there's a Monty Python fan.
Crusades
1:27 Was he genuinely laughing?
I'm thirsty
All right, who said "mattress" to Mr. Lambert?
in his defence, they are singing an english song, that might of turned him off
Can we get a version of this in it's original Klingon???
Who better to sing this? 😊
This episode was kind of lame but this scene is awesome none the less.
I bet this scene has been the inspiration for so much slash fiction... Just tell him you love him, O'Brien. It's okay- everyone's gay for Dr. Bashir XD
So he's kept the Irish accent and quite a few of stereotypical stereotypical Irish but it's only taken till they what the 23rd century something to sing about building a paradise in England as part of their culture there's hope
He downplayed his Irish accent on TNG and they asked him to sound and act more Irish to make the show have more of a cosmopolitan feel
@@Cheeses_K_Riced A simple Google search would have told you Siddig is half English and half Sudanese... not Indian... so who'd being ignorant... and in your logic is he supposed to hate half of his genes and his english mother then?
This should be England's national anthem.
CiaranMcVeigh nah, Land of Hope and Glory.
What's the episode?
“Explorers”
Why would an irishman know the lyrics to an English hymn?
Because this particular Irishman is living in the 25th century...?
Who is the "she" they are talking about?
brianr101010 Jadzia(Julian Has a crush on her)
No, it's not Jadzia. It's Julian's colleague from Medical Academy (she ignored him, because she simply didn't recognize him).
Wouldnt happen in TNG 🙄🙄🙄
My gay uncle always said alcohol can bring two men to the brink. Miles almost pushed past it but he couldn't make out the look on Julian's face and how he would react lol. But I think in two more drinks Keiko would have a decision to make in the morning!
