      Even before that, he was showing many arrogant traits Sith had. He was established around Episode II to have a maverick independent streak which he passed to his apprentice Qui-Gon. Thankfully what Qui-Gon didn't learn from Dooku was his social darwinist philosophy. The book The Jedi Path featured in-character annotations from its former owners with most of Dooku's annotations showing he didn't believe the Jedi should be humble as they were because he thought that only the "strongest" should be allowed to be Jedi and having no respect for non-force sensitives because they "inferior".

    The Jedi might need some opposition every now and then, but I am averse to the notion that the Old Republic Jedi were universally better than the Republic Classic Jedi. Thousands of years of on and off war had caused the Jedi to lose their way - the creation of the Jedi Path was specifically to bring the Jedi back into balance, and with nearly a thousand years of minimal falling to the Dark Side, I’d say it worked pretty well.

      The old republic jedi and the prequel jedi were very different because they lived in different times. Old republic saw jedi constantly fighting an open a brutal war with the sith empire. Meanwhile the prequels saw the jedi serving the republic as if it embodied the will of the force. The jedi of the old republic fell in battle and to the dark side plenty but this doesn't make them worse or better than the prequel jedi. The prequel jedi lost their way through good intentions. Seeing that the Jedi's independence had led them to drag the republic into war after war the jedi chose to serve the senate which lead to them serving the republic as if it embodied the will of the force but when has any political body ever represented the will of the force? This all led to the fall of the jedi as the corruption rampant throughout the republic slowly brought the jedi down, it wasn't an overnight decline either it was death by a thousand small cuts something difficult to notice for anyone. Both eras faced drastically different decisions and battles so it's difficult to look at one and say it was better than the other.

    If you had super powered force users living in your universe you would want them to be exactly what George designed the Jedi to be. Exactly what Yoda taught in the original trilogy. The “mean” council was 100% right Anakin should not have been trained, and “mean” Windu was right when he was opposed to Anakin becoming a master. Anakin was simping on the side, and his immature easily manipulated passion led to the destruction of the Jedi, and fall of the Republic.

      Yep, George Lucas literally said the Jedi are the most moral people in the universe. You can write great stories deconstructing the Jedi ideology but if you’re unaware that showing their morality is the intention of the prequels you end up with the Acolyte

    • @JoRoq1
      @JoRoq1 23 години тому +8

      You’re not wrong, but I think it’s a little more nuanced than that Anakin just should not have been trained.
      The problem is that there were only a few Jedi, primarily Qui-Gon, who would have been able to handle Anakin’s unique circumstance. Anakin didn’t fit the standard mold for a youngling/padawan, having grown up long enough outside the Order to establish different emotional foundations and perspectives. Rather than trying to force-fit the mold and suppress his feelings (particularly regarding Padme), Anakin needed someone who could counsel and guide him through those feelings to a healthy perspective and position for a Jedi. Essentially, he needed a “rogue” master who could devote full time to a one-on-one relationship and be a direct father figure rather than a “brother” like Obi-Wan or an aspirational hero like Mace or Yoda.
      The Jedi of the prequel era as a whole were too stuck in dogmatic tradition, too much in the “always done this way” attitude, while having lost a true understanding for the reason behind the rules and traditions. They were unable to adequately adapt to Anakin’s unique circumstance (or the stress of being pulled into the Clone Wars, a tangent but related subject).

    Hey Thor, I've been wanting to ask you.
    If Qui Gon were still alive, would he have left the Jedi Order as soon as the clone wars began? Because he didn't believe in the Jedi becoming soldiers, since it goes against their philosophies and he would've taken Anakin with him away from Coruscant.
    Also, why do people accuse Qui Gon for cheating in a betting game with Watto, when the chance cube was rigged and loaded? therefore, Watto had already tried cheating first. Even if Qui Gon did cheat, it's not like he did it out of petty gains. He did it to try to free Anakin from slavery, and he was under no obligation to be fair with a slave owner.
    What are your thoughts?

    • @HighHeelKnight
      @HighHeelKnight День тому +1

      Think about any casino. All the games are rigged in one way or another. Despite this fact, customers are not allowed to re-rig the games to their benefits. You aren't allowed to cheat the cheat. That's why what Qui-Gon did to the cube was cheating. A heroic and righteous person that fully believes that the will of the Force has lead him to The Chosen One, then he should believe that the Force will provide answer to gaining Anakin's freedom without deceptively manipulating events.
      Not that I am a fan of The Last Jedi, but think about The Canto Bite mission. Rose and Finn had to find a master code breaker. When they failed to get the services of the expert they wanted, another expert came around. A person of faith could argue that the Force provided a solution.
      In the case of Qui-Gon, people think that he should have allowed the Force to provide a solution instead of him manipulating the rigged chance cube. Somehow..😉.. Anakin would have been freed and become a Jedi.

      I’m not Thor, but I actually think Qui-Gon might’ve participated in the war. He was the one trying to warn the Jedi of the return of the Sith - a war that has clear evidence of the Sith’s machinations would rank pretty high on Qui-Gon’s priorities.

    • @PixelKatana
      @PixelKatana День тому

      The question wasn’t for me but I’ll butt in with my thoughts. Qui Gon correctly followed the Living Force. This is what made him the peak of what a Jedi should be. He wasn’t tied to what some scroll, holocron or text said should happen or how one should react, he listened to what the Force willed. My point with this is that we can’t discount what he would or wouldn’t do if the Force willed it. People can say he cheated but he was doing the will of the Force which actively wants to defeat the cancer that is the dark side. Christian morality cannot be applied to this universe where the Force is almost a religious entity. Now if Qui Gon was alive to train Anakin as the Force wanted, he would have ended Palpatine as he wouldn’t have gotten involved with Padme and he would have been far more mature and in control. He would have lived to his potential, easily wipe out Palps and bring the end of the Sith.

    This Dawn of the Jedi movie, if it’s actually going to be made, NEEDS to be done right. It needs to feel like Star Wars, but not so much that it doesn’t feel like it’s set thousands and thousands of years in the past. The movie that comes to mind as inspiration in terms of the overall tone of the film is the first Avatar movie (2009) by James Cameron, which has an epic sci-fi feel but also a very deep and interesting undertone of mystery and mysticism. And in terms of the philosophical underpinnings of the Dawn of the Jedi movie, it NEEDS to draw influence from the same real-world belief systems and philosophies that inspired Lucas (i.e. Buddhism, Taoism, etc) rather than being inspired by Star Wars itself if that makes sense…? What I mean is that a show like The Acolyte is blinded by Star Wars lore that it actually breaks the lore because it’s trying too hard to be Star Wars, whereas every Star Wars project that ‘works’ (Rogue One/Andor, The Mandalorian, Clone Wars, Skeleton Crew) doesn’t try too hard to be Star Wars but instead just tries to tell a profound and meaningful story. That’s what we need from mangold, so if his comment about not being constricted by the canon means anything like that, then I don’t think there’s any reason to worry.

I am not the biggest fan of TLJ but I can at least find some decent moments throughout the movie like the visuals or the characters having a few bright moments such as when R2 reunites with Luke. That is actually my favorite R2-D2 scene in the Sequel Trilogy. However, with The Acolyte I find it really hard to like any of the characters. There were a few characters I liked to some extent like Sol and Yord but everyone else sucked. Also, I feel the writing was a lot worse in The Acolyte. I am not defending TLJ by any means necessary, but I find that the characters were not always bad in that movie.

Since Palpatine destroyed the Jedi, reorganized the Republic into the Empire, and gained everything he schemes for, why keep Vader alive? Wouldn't it be easier for him to have a new force weilder like the Grand Inquisitor to be his new apprentice.

Being a murderer like that is objectively worse than refusing to become like what you're fighting against. Why would the same not be true for the other side of things? There's sympathetic villains. Hey Thor, how meaningful of a choice was it for George Lucas to involve real-world politics in Star Wars? The politics of the Original Trilogy were there but subtle given its ties to the Vietnam War and the protests at home demanding an end to it, but once the Prequels came out, the politics - and the subsequent consequences of the political decisions made between the 80’s and the start of the war on terror - played a heavy role in defining what the conflict between the C.I.S and the Republic became. How greed, corruption, arrogance, distrust, animosity and an unwillingness to use diplomacy to see a different path forward led to the succession of planets who lost faith in what republic was supposed to stand for, and ultimately led to a galactic war being led in the shadows by Palpatine. And as such, should have Disney leaned on the politics of Star Wars as Andor did?

  • @atlasdesnyder4747
    @atlasdesnyder4747 22 години тому

    Regarding the "millenia of peace" and how it affected the Jedi, I first doubt it was nearly as peaceful as all that -- war and conflict of various types are a natural and inevitable part of the human (and alien, as the case may be) condition. We know there were wars and political disputes and the like, just not on the massive scale of the New Sith Wars, and the Jedi certainly played a role in at least a significant portion of them, as combatants or diplomats.
    However, unlike before, there was no overt Sith/dark side threat in these conflicts, excepting perhaps the occasional dark jedi or force cultists, in the way that most of the conflicts the Jedi had taken part in before. So rather than fighting a spiritual war which demanded as much focus on spiritual discipline and cultivation of light-side force skills and senses to win as martial abilities, they were fighting secular political wars that demanded political cunning and martial ability more than a deep connection to the force. The nature of the issues they dealt with, of the realities of their day-to-day work in conjunction with their mandate to protect and preserve the Republic meant that over the centuries the Order, its training, its ideals, its doctrines and culture, was slowly shaped into something not quite suited to combatting the sith or the dark side, no matter how good-hearted they may hace been.

Further, anthropologists have observed war-like behavior (sustained, targeted violence between distinct groups, essentially) in other contemporary primates, which is useful for an understanding of our own evolutionary roots. War has been a part of us from the beginning, and it has easily survived every treaty, every diplomatic organization, every idealistic utopian ideology humankind has thrown at it, through to the present day, with no sighs of slowing.
      Society has survived as much because of war, because people valued their clan, their culture, their land, their king or government, or whatever else it may be, in order to fight and die for it. Societies are formed by wars of conquest, from the Yamnaya to the Romans to the United States of America, and kept secure and whole by wars of defense. Of course, the trajectories of civilization are more complex than just cycles of war, but regardless it's an integral part of human development, for better and worse, and we are no different an animal now than we were 10,000 years ago, biologically. Maybe the ways war is fought will change in the ever evolving cycle of technological and political development, but as long as we're human, war will be in our future.
      Apologies for being so long winded, I tend to go off on tangents, and this is something I've given some thought to.

    Do I have to say, "Hey Thor" for him to possibly read the comment? Or does he read whatever intrigues him or is popular?

      I only read comments in the video that start with "Hey Thor". It's basically just a way of telling me you're cool with me using your comment.

    They need to stop thinking about making Star Wars movies, but just make good movies - set in that universe. All we're getting from Disney is just rehashing old ideas.

    This might be a decent movie, but I wouldn’t be sad if it gets TBD’ed like other Lucasfilm projects. Too risky, just leave it ambiguous.

    If this happens we will get nose rings, blue hair, pronouns, boss girl lead who can’t be defeated and defeats the patriarchy and becomes the founder/original jedi. I guarantee it.

    People who think Dooku wasn’t that evil because his eyes weren’t yellow are as intelligent as people who say “but the goverment wouldn’t do that” because somebody they like is in power.
    Notice how the guy literaly called insidious didn’t have yellow eyes until he became a scrotum does that mean he wasn’t evil until the second he got hit in the face by 20,000 bolts of unlimited power
