Not me just having realized today I started my chess[dot]com account on Christmas Eve because of this show (and suddenly seeing youtubers I watch playing other stuff play chess too, but that was less of a reason)
I took this line as a jab at Alma's current state. Beth only ever sees Alma interact with one other person besides herself, her husband. And at the time this line was spoken, Alma was sitting at home by herself, watching TV in the dark, clearly not having much of a social life, yet tried to tell Beth to join do something else than join a chess tournament. It seemed kind of hypocritical of her to say such a thing.
While Beth does has a lot of good qualities, I worry about how often characters like hers are used for female role models... Especially when drug/alcohol abuse among women is rising fast than it is with men.

Idk about y’all but queens gambit gives me ✨refreshed✨ feelings. The actors were so good, the plot was absolutely perfect and truly was captivating.
