Honestly Benny & Beth needed more screen time together. The only episode that they do have a lot of screen time together would be episode six. Even so they sort of showed they dynamic between the two. Benny is there to help her out while Beth pushes him further. They both make each other succeed.
I’m not gonna lie, when I saw Benny at the first time I laughed at this little baby-faced mustache dude. But here I am now, shipping these two pretty hardly and thinking that he’s hot as hell. What a wonderful actor this man is

Just finished binge watching this show in like two days after starting it out of boredom and not expecting to get into it much... the characters and the relationships are so realistic, people coming in and out of each other's lives, all the people that helped her whether in big or small ways, and love that the show and characters weren't just fixated on her being a woman, there was no major sexism in the show, if you were good enough then you were good enough regardless. Benny was my favorite, definitely a narcissist, but he got her out of her head and helped her out so much and was an actual bond for her when she had no one else really. I love that this was a show about strength and independence, but I also kinda hope Beth went back to New York after haha.
Seeing Beth Harmon demolish her opponents is like that scene in the Wonder Woman movie where WW charges across no-man's land. AJT is an amazing actress.

They stayed primarily in the New York apartment, a chess board always out on the table, always in play. Later on the games would last for days, just because they could. They gave one another understanding and challenge, both things that neither could live without. I like to think that they stayed that way, happily, for a long, long time.

Townes said he wants to be friends (he’s gay but got confused when he met Beth) and Beltik, while super sweet, isn’t assertive enough nor an intellectual match for her who will help her be a better person. Benny is the only one who managed to motivated her to try sobriety and really challenged her to improve her skills all the while keeping up with her. Plus she enjoyed having sex with him the most lol.

I just loved them everytime they were on screen together. So much chemistry - I feel like they had an equal match of intellect and genuine care for eachother. I prefer them together than her and the reporter guy (without even mentioning the age gap) just bc I feel like they had more time for a relationship to develop. Benny barely knew her for more than a few days and was so perceptive of just about everything about her and she was equally as interested in him. A beautiful love story. they were both like a jolt to each other's senses. It's like they looked at each other and instantly perceived that they were the real deal. Nobody else really mattered. The reporter thing coming back in the end really threw me off.
On why they didn't properly get together in the show: I think she believed Cleo when she said Benny loved himself more than anyone else, and Benny never did anything to convince her otherwise. After they slept together he had nothing to say to her, and even after Paris when he asked her to come to New York, he wasn't specific about what he wanted. He kept asking her to come to him, but if he was worried about her or wanted her, what was stopping him from going to her? The closest he ever got to admitting he liked her was saying he missed her, aside from those words he said afterwards when he got angry at her ('you'd rather be a drunk than be with me') for somehow not reading his mind or not being in the best place to be what he wanted her to be (which isn't really a fair position to put her in). At the end of the day I still ship the hell out of these two, but I'm not mad about the arc in this season, even though I wish we could have seen more of the two of them actually together. Their chemistry was insane and their actions made sense. Benny had no practice admitting vulnerability, and Beth brought out all of the vulnerability in him. Vice versa - she was much the same, and she needed to be able to stand on her own two feet to approach him as a true equal in the future. In the end, the power dynamic balanced out. I think it's the type of plot that I find most satisfying.

After they slept together he had nothing to say to her, and even after Paris when he asked her to come to New York, he wasn't specific about what he wanted. He kept asking her to come to him, but if he was worried about her or wanted her, what was stopping him from going to her? The closest he ever got to admitting he liked her was saying he missed her, aside from those words he said afterwards when he got angry at her ('you'd rather be a drunk than be with me') for somehow not reading his mind or not being in the best place to be what he wanted her to be (which isn't really a fair position to put her in).
At the end of the day I still ship the hell out of these two, but I'm not mad about the arc in this season, even though I wish we could have seen more of the two of them actually together. Their chemistry was insane and their actions made sense. Benny had no practice admitting vulnerability, and Beth brought out all of the vulnerability in him. Vice versa - she was much the same, and she needed to be able to stand on her own two feet to approach him as a true equal in the future. In the end, the power dynamic balanced out. I think it's the type of plot that I find most satisfying.
