Always a pleasure filming with you! I've now been caring for all of these plants for over a month, making the transition from a dog lady to a carnivorous plant lady. No regrets. 🌱🙌

Wait until they bloom, I recently got to see them in their native habitat It is kind of a surreal realization seeing the boglands full of pretty yellow flowers only to realize it was all Bladderworts growing in the boggy wetlands.

As a child, I lived near a farm with some Venus traps... I’d always be tempted to touch them...

What carnivorous plants did you get?
Also, if there wasn't an ick factor, would you eat bugs yourself? (Many cultures do already, and there are American companies grinding them up for chips. One's called Chirps.) Or are insects just so far removed from chickens and cows that there's no moral factor for you? (If that's why you're vegetarian)

Apparently I didn't see this 10 months ago. Sorry! I'm sure you've moved on with your life by now but for sake of closure... I've been into venus fly traps ever since I was a kid. I should try getting one of those pitcher plants next time I see one. Yes, I choose not to eat meat based on my moral preferences. No, I don't hold insects as high up there as more complex life forms. Still, arthropods > plants. I have tried chapulines before (not bad tasting actually...kind of like a beef jerky flavor with twiggy texture), and meal worms (tasted like dust). I'm sure I've eaten way more bugs accidentally. Anyways, yeah, prefer avoiding them in my diet but if I had to bugs would be next in line at the slaughterhouse.

I grew up with carnivorous plants as my mother used them for this very reason. We had Venus fly traps and they work great indoors and are so cool. I would feed them myself all the time

To be fair, a Dragonfly during the Jurassic period has a wingspan of 4 feet, so I don't see why not.
This make me wonder if it might be possible to engineer wheat (or other plants that are food sources) to be carnivorous for places with poor soil.

Unlikely, the genetic changes required would be massive, it would probably be easier to engineer these kinds of plants to grow a wheat like substance intead

I bought a venus flytrap and we're all scared of it 🤣 we try feeding it but it's so hard to catch insects. Today my grandma managed to grab a wasp with a tissue and feed one of the flytraps. I can't wait to see the after results 👀

the dark red versions are especially beautiful

My carnivorous plants arrived off of Amazon yesterday. Sundew plants, Venus fly traps and Pitcher plants. They're tiny because they are very young. I fed them some ants yesterday. Truly wonderful plants.

I got a venus flytrap yesterday. Had them before and never killed any. Missed having one so bought one yesterday. It’s just a tiny little baby runt now but it’ll grow. Two of the traps are already shut so it’s obviously recently had something dumb enough to trigger the traps.
I like the flask picture. It actually does not kill any thing. Leaves or other detritus fall into the flask picture & then mosquito larvae chew up the leaves, then frogs lay eggs that hatch into tadpoles that eat the mosquito larvae ... so it actually gets fertilizer from animal poop w/out having to kill anything.
My grandson and I got a Venus Flytrap yesterday. It already caught a fly!!! Love your video.
