      Same, I have an 11 inch, and wanted to get the 2022 12.9, until I heard they were going to announce a new iPad. So I waited, hoping the 2022 will drop in price. And now I’m wondering if it might be a smart idea to get the 2024 pro instead of, to be done for a couple of years. I’ve had my 2018 one for well over 5 years. And I use it every single day. Decisions, decisions.

      @@_JoyceArt I've heard a lot of complaints that current screens of iPads, when compared to 2018, the 2018 was actually better. They're not the best when it comes to reproducing really bright colors. Someone made a whole review on how weird the white/blue-white ish colors look, where the 2018 one actually looked better. For this reason, I'm not so sure about upgrading to the newest ones myself.

    I’m so irritated with Apple! I just got the newest IPad Pro last year and had to buy a new Apple Pen because my old one wasn’t compatible….grrrrr. Now, they have the newest pen which I love what it does but, Apple messed us over again! The new pen is NOT compatible with my new iPad. As an artist myself, I’m currently still using iPad Pro 10.5 inch (2017). It works just fine. I know it is kind of slow to browse compared to the newer iPads but because of promotion 120Hz refresh rate, it feels just as snappy as other newer generation iPad Pro(s).
    I tried to upgrade to iPad Air 5 back in 2023 but due to Apple just gives that iPad 60Hz, it was not as snappy as the Pro when drawing on Procreate

    My 2018 iPad pro is still going strong… but these new M4 OLED iPad Pros are very tempting. Especially with the new Apple Pencil Pro. 🤔 For those on a budget the new iPad Airs are a nice alternative tho! All in all, this is the biggest update to iPads in a long time. I've been using the iPad Pro 11'' 2018 since it's launched, and it still works great today. But the rotation feature of the new Pencil Pro is huge to me as I love working with flat brushes. Now I'm thinking of buying the new Pencil Pro and the 13" Air as it'd give me more space to work with. But I wonder if downgrading from a Pro screen to an Air one would worth.

    Honestly the Pro models might be overkill for 3D/video editing as well. The M2 is very capable, I have an M2 Pro and it handles every creative app incredibly smoothly. The new Air’s guts are the same as the last gen Pro, so if the M2 Pro worked well with creative apps last week, they’ll perform the same with the new Air. The big thing with tech nerds is that even the M2 barely reaches its potential with current apps, the M4 is overkill for basically anything currently available for iPad OS. If you’re getting an M4 you’re mostly getting it for the screen, not the chip.

    keep in mind! while researching and comparing, I see that the new 2024 air has the EXACT SAME CHIP AND CORES as the 6th gen 2022 PRO. the ONLY difference between the still very recent 12.9 pro and the new air is you'll be missing out on pro-motion, higher res back camera recording, XDR display and slightly better speakers. absolutely nothing the newer pro offers will matter to you as an artist unless you like brooke mentioned, want to use it outside, or if you're interested in using the ipad for higher powered creative applications. If this is purely an indoor procreate/dreams machine, stick to the AIR. It is JUST as capable as the last year's pro model.

      @dianaescobar6369 4 місяці тому

      While it does have the chip and cores as the 22’ pro, it’s gpu and cpu are much higher, which for some is overkill, but when it comes to procreate dreams/procreate which is very dependent on how many layers you can have based on memory size, some may find upgrading the worth for the memory alone (16GB vs 8GB) the M4 chip helps with efficiency which is why it may seem the same cores but perform differently

It was! Oled screen, a new pencil, new m4 chip! Etc... and after apple gives them the tech they wanted they complain about backwards compatibility... apple released a great product 2 years ago with a great new pencil! Im betting people who bought it loved it! And i bet it works as well as the day you bought it! So enjoy it... if you want the latest and greatest, u pay for that! Its the tech world! Wait another year or two and this one will be discounted and you can have it on the cheap, or buy used...

    Will you be creating a new tier ranking for all iPads? I have a 2017 12.9” Pro 2, I lost my apple pencil a few years ago and never replaced it so I haven’t done much art on it lately… But I was thinking about buying either a previous generation Pro model or the Air. I’m sure my iPad still works well enough and I could probably buy a used Apple Pencil 1 for $20, but I think it’s about to no longer be supported in future software updates :(
    PS: A big reason I’m leaning towards the 2024 models is simply for the Find My feature in the Apple Pencil Pro. Losing/misplacing my Apple Pencil was SUCH a major issue for me, if I left it on the table by accident my cats would steal it, or it would get lost in my backpack, and since it only connected by sticking out from the charge port, it wasn’t like I could just magnetize it. I’ve got bad ADHD and the Find My feature is definitely factoring into my decision process.

    I've been thinking about this for a while. I am an artist who doesn't rely too much on features as barrell roll, preview, or stuff like that, so, I've been using an iPad as my main tool since February of 2022, never had a problem with it, but if I was a digital painter, the story would be much more different. I see the attractive of having the brush preview show up on your screen, and the barrell roll as well, but they're not crucial to my workflow. However, the squeeze feature is something I NEED

I wouldn’t call it tooth-y and scratchy like paper, but it’s more satin-y and smooth as opposed to the smudgy/slippery/tacky feel of traditional iPad glass. I still don’t know if I should pull the trigger. I mean I can get the new one, keep the one I have now as well as I do lots of video editing and can store so much data on that iPad. So it won’t just collect dust. It’s just going to be pricey. $2000+ for the new set up. Hold on, so the texture feature won’t feel at all like the paper like sort of screen protectors? So is it best to just skip that feature and just keep buying some from Amazon ?

      The concern with the nano-texture glass is that it easily scratches, and that’s according to people who bought or tried the Apple Studio Displays with the nano-texture option. That’s why I ruled out getting the nano-texture, therefore getting a patch of PaperLike is the smartest decision at the moment.
      BTW, I’m upgrading from a 6GB RAM 2020 12.9 model which didn’t have the M1 and mini-LED screen. It crashes when I push it to the limit with so many layers on Affinity Designer and that’s why this time I’m going for one of the high storage models to get that 16GB RAM. Regarding the RAM, any complex project I do on Affinity Designer the RAM is always pushed to the limit right about when I put my final touches, and I usually get to 50 layers or so with effects and adjustments in between. So 16GB will more than cover my needs for super complex projects. Affinity is very RAM-hungry because it’s very close to desktop application compared to other much simpler apps like ProCreate which are on the "lite" mobile side.

    Honestly, I'm not a fan of the nano-texture, it seems to make the screen fuzzy and dims the deep blacks of the double OLED screen. I honestly love the pop of color the OLED screen has. I bet the colors will look amazing. I like the idea of reducing glare but not to the point that it defeats the point of OLED screen. I have a 6th gen iPad with 1st gen Apple pencil, and I got the lower specs, I've felt frustrated with the app closing and I can't use too many layers. My biggest thing with IPad is the jumps in levels. I have to go higher for all the stuff I want if I’m going to spend the money, and before you know it I can’t afford it. Lol. I’m so undecided about this. Maybe I’ll wait it out. Mine is still working okay.

    The M1 Chips are also plenty powerful even if you are using something like Procreate Dreams, because the performance of Procreate software is more dependent upon your RAM than anything else. I am curious if I got a new Pencil Pro and used it with my M2 Ipad Pro, would the only negative be that my Pencil charges slightly off-center? because I can live with that if I can have rotation on my brush. Even for the Gen 2 Pencils, if I can assign a rotation toggle to the double-tap, then I might actually have a reason to turn it back on. I mean accidentally turning rotation on and off isn't AS BAD as accidentally switching between brush and eraser after all.

    Hey there! I have a question, for uni. and watching movie-shows yt etc. Which one should i buy; ipad air m2 11" or ipad pro m2 11" (all of them with pencil tho) ? In my country the ipad pro m2 11" is 5k more than new ipad air so which one is better for long term? New ipad is 2 years younger and it will be get more updated that's the two reason im stuck with it: m2 pro price and update stuff... 🤷🏻‍♀️ oh and also is it worth it to pay extra 10k for 12.9 screen ? (i know its stupid tho...)

    Nice to see others feeling the enthusiams I do over a 13" screen option in the Air product line. I learned to use Procreate with my 9th gen basic iPad and feel like. a larger screen would help so much, especially as I'm visually impaired and rely on Zoom and VoiceOver to enhance my remaining sight. Tech channels treated the new Air options as a big nothing burger and a spec bump only, I'm like are you kidding me? I don't do plein air work, with my budget that's the only reason I would splurge on the larger Pro.

    My main reason for considering upgrading is the layerlimit with my Ipad Pro 2017 (12 Layers for 5000*6500px) and honestly i was shook when i checked out the new Ipad pros (256gb) and the limit is exactly the same. It was at least 2 or 3 times more with the Ipad Pro 2022 models. @katrinsuchowski3822 I see, perhaps you mistakenly entered an incorrect number when testing out the new IPad? I just checked on my current iPad (2021, 8GB Ram) 5000×6500px at 300 DPI allows me to have 28 layers. So my assumption is that 16GB RAM should allow for around 56 layers.

    • @katrinsuchowski3822
      @katrinsuchowski3822 4 місяці тому

      @@Hiro_Ieyasu Thanks for checking, these numbers add up to what I was seeing while checking the older Pros (2021/2022, 8GB Ram) in the apple store. It was 28 Layers which was promising, so I was surprised seeing that the newest Pro has halfed the layer amount again and can't find an explanation unless procreate doesn't support the M4 processors and Ram access is somehow limited. I double checked the dimensions I typed in so that's unfortunately not the explanation. I was hoping to get at least the 28 Layers with the newest version, as upgrading to 1TB+ is unfortunately not in my budget. Would the newest pencil be compatible with the 2022 pro I'd honestly would opt for that.

    • @Hiro_Ieyasu

    If you want to get something better than the base ipads on a budget, second hand ipad pros. There was never a reason to look at the ipad air models for drawing at least, since I don't really care about cameras (with HORRIBLE POSITION for such a big device), or anything else besides the amount of storage (and from 2018 till now, they were all using the same pencil 2, with same screen sizes, so almost 0 reasons, since even the base ipad from 2018 is plenty for drawing already... and that thing is 6 years old already).
