Drink packages aren't just for alcohol. You can get a lower priced package without alcohol. During my college days, a cruise line offered a cheap package cruise from Ft Lauderdale to the Bahamas on spring break. For $69 each, 4 of us got a room on the bottom deck with 2 bunks on the side walls. The bathroom was communal down the hallway. No bother, it was just like the dorm at school. One guy had a Mustang convertible, which we drove to Florida and left at a motel. The ship was the SS Bahama Star. About 800 passengers, of which half were college students. But the cruise was fun and the food was good. We got our $69 worth. When we returned to Ft Lauderdale, we found my buddy’s Mustang sitting on the axels. All 4 tires and wheels had been stolen.

My girlfriend (she is now my wife) and I have had some intimate times on balconies. Carnival Triumph, cabin was a category 9A in a back corner of the ship. Although the Lido deck was above us, it overhung our balcony so no lack of privacy. On numerous other ships we have had category 11 cabins on the side. Those, like standard balcony rooms on Carnival ships had decent privacy as well, aside from the divider you mentioned and potential of reflection from the glass railing, which we didn't find to be an issue. For all of our 'special occasions' we waited until after dark and had the lights off in the room and on the balcony, and kept the noise down. If you saw a couple out late at one of the bars on the ship and they had this relaxed glow about them, it may have been us.
I'm actually amazed at how little time people actually spend on their balcony. Seems like people might come out for literally a minute or two to see what's going on outside and then turn right back around and go inside.

All great advice n let me add one thing as soon as you see your room steward TIP them you will get a much better cruise experience and also I don't get the drink package bc I don't want to feel like I have to live up to it with 10-15 drinks a day that's not a vacation.
Drink-wise, I can only speak for Princess Cruises, but their drinks use the European Shot standard of 1 oz, instead of the US Shot standard of 1.5 oz. So basically they are weak drinks. Both of their drink packages max out at 15 drinks per day. So that means you max out at 15 oz and not 22.5 oz. For your average person, not a big deal, but I am 6'5" 350 lbs. and easily can drink 15 drinks throughout a day and still pass a breathalyzer test to drive a car. But that being said, Princess (at least on the one cruise I just took in July) was very accommodating when it came to who got charged for a drink. My mother would only have 2-3 drinks per day, and they had zero problem with making sure her account got max'd out everyday by the rest of my family. And after a couple days of drinking at the same bar, once they got to know us, my mother didn't even need to be there for them to charge it to her account. It is the little things like this that make or break things IMO and Princess did this well.
@@bobbear4437 Do a little research. If you paid attention, I am basically the size of two adult males. Check out any BAC calculator you want. It takes seven 1.5 oz shots in an hour for me to hit 0.08 BAC. Princess's European 1.0 oz shots of 15 per day, equals 10 US shots of 1.5 oz. So yes, I can easily drink 15 drinks on a Princess cruise throughout the day and still be well under the legal limit to drive. This isn't up for debate. Plus, being my size and a regular drinker, I also metabolize alcohol way faster too.
it also means he has a drinking problem and that applies to men of any size. Why would he think being 6ft 5 inches and way overweight obese run fact means he can drink more?@@bobbear4437
@@Sun-Warrior1911 Honestly, people treat me like an alcoholic when, in fact, I'll have a lower BAC than them at the end the night. What sucks is the cost, lol. Glad I'm not the only one. :)
Funny cruise. I booked a last minute from LA to Mexico 7 day dirt cheap. While boarding I realized why. Gay cruise. I am not gay and until that trip I was rather hostile toward those that are. A big sign read "NO TOPLESS" on the aft deck. First of all that section was adults only, smoking allowed and two bars. 8 guys had bikini tops on. That was funny stuff. Those guys hooked me up three times with straight women. Great cruise? Yep
@@bobgil3464 I booked 24 hrs before departure as a SOLO Traveller. 40 minute drive from my house. BALCONY for $750 solo? Done. ($1100 per person price tag?) Sorry the gay cruise idea didnt fill the ship. Next time hire those that know the industry not woke idiots. I had a blast.
At least for me on carnival cruises, you can use your drink package off the boat depending on where you are. Also speaking for carnival cruise drink packages, the package costs about $59.95 (also prepaying gratuities is ideal) a day so take that into consideration when justifying if the package is worth it or not. The cheapest drink on board is about $10.50 and if you have 5 drinks in a day that’s easily going over the $60 price (not including the taxes or gratuity for each drink). So imo it’s well worth it unless you do not drink alcohol at all.
The casinos usually have a self serve kiosk where you can cash out your player bank. Another useful note on Carnival you can put you card in the slot machine charge cash to your room with NO extra 3% fee. then cash out which goes on your player bank. You can then use that at the tables to play. Charging to the room at the table will cost you 3% of the charge. Great work by the by
I remember cruising with my wife and she opted for the topless optional deck however on occasion a curious teen would wander through and that would upset her so I can see why they've gotten away from it
NCL has a drinking age wavier for 18-20 year olds that the young passenger AND their parents sign when the ship leaves American waters. The parent takes full responsibility for the young passenger’s.
Keep in mind there are cameras everywhere - and some have a partial view into your balcony. Related, most cruise lines are using facial ID extensively, so anonymity cannot be guaranteed.
@@lennyj3300weird, because that's not even close to the same thing. I haven't heard of anyone who has a secret camera They don't know about hidden in their bedroom watching the activities. I think that many cruisers embark with the notions that non-stop fun to the point of hedonism rules the day --- and night --- and that anything goes. Excesses and wonton self-indulgence are the reflexive goals. Yet, civility, manners, self-awareness, and the golden rule should prevail. Tanner, your tips are invaluable --- and spot on! Thank you!
On the topic of things in your room and that people come in and out. I don't like people in my rooms so I will always keep the do not disturb sign up. Your absolutely correct. My wife only cruises with tiny string bikinis and she's worn them on just about every cruise line but only in the adult area pools. The tops also are barley covering anything and other then looks from jealous women it's never been a problem except one time a women complained and staff came over and said they were more then ok with it and that women abruptly left. String bikinis and thongs are everywhere now just like short shorts. Times are changing and women are more comfortable these days. My wife works hard at staying in great shape plus she stands up for 8 hrs a day never sitting even for a minute she even eats standing up at work every single day. I think people hook up alot on cruises we see it all the time people hit on us alot especially the young ones in there 20s. My wife is 50 and she gets guys all day sneaking pictures of her i see it all the time but I'm used to it by now so its no big deal and she laughs at it she's really cool with it too. We went to a singles meet a few times on cruise ships and there alot of fun we stay together and drink and watch other people trying to hook up its a fun time the music is always good and the conversations are somewhat different.
That is one way of putting ut, another way would be to judge them against women who patrol the streets of red light distlricts and even this women are wearing more than the women you mention.
You might have mentioned that breaking some rules can get you kicked off a ship, possibly in a foreign port. Having sex on your balcony can be one of those situations.
@@MartenKrueger-sx4meI'm avoiding the casinos in Vegas also bc of how downhill the buffets have gone. So much $ for mediocre food. And the "resort" fees for the hotels on the strip are crazy. I haven’t cruised for a while, but back when I did it, while official policy was no drinking under 21, in reality, once we were in international waters, I could order with ease at 18 on the ship. The trick is being confident and knowing the worse case scenario is they say no. No one ever did say no though, although one bartender did note I wasn’t 21 when I gave him my ID, and then handed me a drink 😅
@@lausimeyer6558no, it doesn’t. International means just that, international. They even had a pre cruise Q&A about that. Their official policy though is cruises that leave out of US is 21 and up, but like I mentioned, didn’t matter.
Here is a naughty tip. Voyager class ships are Pitch black at the very front of the ship at night and virtually no one there. Do with that information as you will, because the only lights you see are from the bridge.
Are you sure you bought an all you can drink package, not Carnvial which has a fifteen alcholic drink per 24hr period limit? Also, cruise ship bartenders can still deny you alcohol just as on land to protect your safety. A cruise drink package is for your enjoyment, not to end up in the ship medical facility with alcohol poisoning.

1:25 Do not go to a pharmacy in the tourist area of a city, especially in Mexico. Yes, there are discount pharmacies in Mexico, but ask the local tour guide (or someone at one of the port shops) for a pharmacy these people know that has local rates instead of tourist prices (that are often double or triple the cost). Also, it is against the law to bring prescription medicines back into the U.S. without having a prescription to buy them. Sometimes Customs does search the bags using dogs when you arrive in port, and they can search your carry-on luggage if you meet certain parameters (profiling is such a dirty word). They will hit people who are taking their own checked luggage off the ship (if you are like me and don't like the hassle of getting off by luggage tag or deck number).
I was on a Carnival cruise ship called Fantasy in the early 90s, and it had a nudist deck on the very highest deck. You had to go up there in your swimsuit or other clothes and then take them off when you got up there. I checked it out, but since the Bahamas sun was a bit strong, I decided I didn't wanna burn anything off my male body, if you know what I mean. If i'd had a chance to do some nude sunbathing before I went. I might have been more prepared and joined in.
Finally someone addresses the elephant in the room regarding cruises - nudity or almost nudity. I wouldn't go nude myself (not proud of what I've got), but I certainly love the idea of seeing others nude! Unfortunately, my first cruise is a much older crowd from what I understand. That stinks! Who wants to see a bunch of old fogies in swimsuits? I hope there's at least SOME younger people on my upcoming Celebrity Eclipse cruise to look at. What good are pools if there's no skimpy outfits being worn?
I was on a river cruiser moored at the quayside, in Venice, Italy, when Cruiseliners were still allowed to come in. One evening when one of the liners was leaving my partner and I counted three copulating couples on their balconies for all the world to see. We weren't even looking, it was as plain as the nose one your face and still daylight. The sun hadn't even gone down. Exhibitionism is the same the world over. The couples weren't even goodlooking! WHY? Thank goodness that big ships are now banned.

Can’t even begin to tell you about how right he is on the whole “balcony dividers casting a reflection” I was on my balcony on SOTS once just enjoying the evening breeze and watching the sun cast an orange glaze across the ocean as it was setting and I thought too myself that I was in true paradise at the moment, well evidently the couple next door to us must have been thinking the same thing because they were definitely in a paradise of their own. 😂 Anyways long story short they were right up against the railing so not only could you hear everything but also because of the glare from the balcony dividers oh I was given a front row and center seat to the whole show, I honestly thought about tossing over two bottles of water and yelling out “Remember to rehydrate when y’all are done!” 😂 I just walked back inside and closed the door and told my wife not to go out there. 😂🤣
My wife and I went to the buffet for lunch on a cruise a couple of weeks back, while I was there I saw a large woman with a fishnet coverup and a thong bikini. Not what someone wants to see at a buffet.
Although I will say some pharmacy drugs are much cheaper in Mexico and other countries, in my experience the name brand ED drugs are crazy high and much cheaper to purchase here in the US under a generic brand prescription. I am talking $0.30/pill vs $30 for name brand.
Beyond the bring "magnets" tips, your posts are informative about those other questions that usually go unasked or answered. We've been on a number of cruises (3-8 day) and are now seniors. The 3 day cruises should be called "bacchanal cruises" and with the longer cruises common sense and a modicum of restraint are both found and appreciated. Rather than get away with smoking I'd prefer to be with people like me...smokers. can't believe we're still waiting for the second prohibition era to end in 2023
No, it's not allowed on ships. I will say that you smell it around sometimes, but seems like a bad idea to travel with it to a foreign country. Seems like soon enough you could take a road trip across country and never have to pass through an illegal state.
It is figured into your cruise price but is considered the cool thing to do for your room stewards or wait staff. The bartenders get tips on the slip most every time I sign for a drink on my drink package.
What’s the difference with carnival getting it paid onto your side and sell card, and having to go to the cashier to cash out versus a cruise line that uses a voucher, that you still have to take to cashier to cash out to me having on your sign until card means you can’t lose the voucher, therefore losing your winnings.
Drinking age one is incorrect. If you are sailing from North America and are 18,19, or 20, you can drink on board most ships as soon as you hit international waters.
Carnival: "The minimum age for the purchase and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the bars, lounges and gift shops is 21 years of age. Carnival reserves the right to request ID prior to the purchase of alcohol and refuse the sale of alcohol to anyone. The Pride of America does not either. Its the only USA flag ship in the world. The cruise ship follows the rules of the state they are in. Since its home Port is Hawaii, Hawaii does not allow any type of casino gambling, therefore, the Pride of America will not either.

Fact!!! Love our balcony shenanigans
@@AggyThomas that’s exactly why I got it and the drink package. There will be a few encounters on that balcony.
15+ drinks every day, that certainly is above the legal limit for driving!
Not alone very unhealthy!

Yep
That happened to my wife and I ending up on a gay cruise. The problem it is not mentioned anywhere.
I had a blast.
booking a gat cruise is no accident
At least for me on carnival cruises, you can use your drink package off the boat depending on where you are. Also speaking for carnival cruise drink packages, the package costs about $59.95 (also prepaying gratuities is ideal) a day so take that into consideration when justifying if the package is worth it or not. The cheapest drink on board is about $10.50 and if you have 5 drinks in a day that’s easily going over the $60 price (not including the taxes or gratuity for each drink). So imo it’s well worth it unless you do not drink alcohol at all.
Can husband and wife buy one drink package at $60/day and share it?
@@Werewolf0216 no
@@chaffsalvo huh. That's strange...I mean, how would they know if we shared a drink, or she had one at one time and I had one at another time.

When you hear me cry out "I'm king of the world!" I'm not on the front of the ship... I just finished on the balcony.

All AIDA ships have a nude area(FKK-Bereich) on the ship, usually on uppermost deck.
thanks for the honesty about drink packages. Me myself pretty good drinker... but not enough to get my money worth.
You're welcome. I think in general people have a good idea if they'd drink how much it would take to break even.
I was on the sailing where the brawl broke out.. it was blown wayyy out of proportion.
On the topic of things in your room and that people come in and out. I don't like people in my rooms so I will always keep the do not disturb sign up. After day two, they will hunt you down and be sure that all persons tied to the room are present. Creepy at first but awesome they want every safe and accounted for.
On virgin voyages you have to be 18 or older to be on the ship and they serve alcohol to everyone. even if you're under 21
On my last Princess Cruise I had a drink package which I didn't let go to waste, In the evening I would go to the Skywalkers Lounge and noticed that the DJ had to buy his own drinks while he was spinning the hits. I would always buy him a beverage and spend some time chatting on slow nights, Just a tip for your favorite guys which includes just having and extra water which comes with the drink packages delivered to them by my servers.,..
You guys seem fun, haha.
@andrewjohnson588 thank you we try...

Of all the goofy things, I think that there should be a place in a cruise ship for topless women if they want. I just don’t understand the big deal.
I miss the old school money/coins dropping into the metal tray.

Doesn't work now. Your age is attached to your sail and sign card so they know how old you are as soon as you order.

Yeah always read the terms and conditions that list a max number of drinks. Lawyering and Marketing are evil things.
Are you sure you bought an all you can drink package, not Carnvial which has a fifteen alcholic drink per 24hr period limit?
On Norwegian you can drink at 18 when you leave US waters
If your wife likes the occasional fufu drink then the drink package is worth it.
