    Oh and another takeaway, if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like UA-cam if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course sso.teachable.com/secure/2458... I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel.

    I was a wood shop junkie in high school and was fortunate enough to have some of the best in the business, retire and teach. Everything was about rhythm. Can't remember the last time I use a hammer for nailing because of my nail guns. Thoroughly enjoyed the video and even started a subscription to AG1. Thanks

      I hand nailed back in 1975 before the advent of pneumatic nailers. I also learned how to drive framing nails with my off hand, so I wouldn’t get a popeye arm.

      @@jonhill373 in 1973 after salvaging all the used Lumberton build a ranch house, we got the first section of 1400sq ft for nailed with 1x4 t&g, then the walls the same & the rest 1x6 t&g. We used 7 cases 50lbs each just on the sheathing. Our father and 2brothers. Mid afternoon I asked if he was getting plywood for the roof. No, no, no. I walked the 8.5 miles home IN PROTEST getting there about 10 minutes before them. The next morning they left without me, but returned about an hr later with the plywood and another case of 8pennies

      I apprentice in the late 70'& early 80's, we worked inside and for the special/old customer we did roofing. Joe had put full scope to the side several yrs before.
      Well I was a teen and carried 2/3 of a square up the ladder each trip.... Very manual labor. Then I got to roof with Joe and sometimes one other helper. 4 nails per.......well even then riding my bike home was a challenge after 8 hrs of hammering. The joy came when the water in the shower hit my arms and fingers. Dr Strange Love would take over my body. I would have to put my curled fingers on the wall or handles and force them to uncurl.
      Fast forward ~1998 and I needed to re-roof detached apartment I had on the property. With our fail Dr Strange Love visited.
      I said no I am a man I am not buying a nailer! So ..... actually I just swore off roofing.
      Oh yah, 2 yrs ago I purchased a #Metabo framing gun. That was quite a joy .

    I learned to frame with a 16 oz wood handled Plumb hammer fifty years ago. Everything was hand nailed and nail guns were not on the jobsite. We framed with 12d coated bails and 6 dor 8d sheathing nails. Every nail was stuck with the first blow and set with the second. If I need to hand drive nails, I still use a 16 oz Plumb and after I get in rhythm usually drive them in three blows rather than the to that I used when I framed every day. I have not been a framer or carpenter for forty-five years.

    At first I couldn’t believe you posted a 17min video on how to, basically, hammer in a nail…
    Then I couldn’t believe that I actually watched it!😆
    -I’m a old framer from the mid 80’s, so yeah, I’ve done a lot of hand nailing… Estwing 22oz was the best all around hammer back then (although I had several different Estwings of different weights)…
    I still use a Estwing, only 15oz now, but I only use it to knock things in place or to sink that rare nail the nail gun didn’t set.

    Here’s a funny story. I’m a carpenter. I’m 53. Been swinging a hammer for more than 30 years at this point. I went to Chilean Patagonia a few years back to help my electrician buddy build a house on some land he bought. Full sawn sticks, 4” commons, so no nail gun, old 25 oz Estwing. Definitely got my man card renewed on that job. Framing that should be all that’s needed to convince anyone I know how to swing a hammer.
    Then we go fly fishing and I’m just terrible at it. He’s an expert. So he’s teaching me to fly cast. Tells me not to use my wrist. “it’s just like swinging a hammer” he says. “You definitely use your wrist when you swing a hammer” I says. “No you don’t” he says. “Dude, I’ve been a carpenter since the last century and sunk 10 pounds of fat 4 inch spikes before lunch. I was definitely using my wrist. That’s probably why i’m a shitty fly caster.” He persisted, telling me I was hammering wrong.
    “Okay. Tell you what. I’m clearly not casting right. You’re the expert on that. No wrist. Gotcha.” On that he was right.

    I love my titanium hammers (Framing and finish) - putting the price aside - I just like a wooden handle. It does not make sense because clearly the metal handle is stronger and therefore better long term. My stilettos are 10 years old now and have original handles.
    I must say that I also love my titanium cats paw - wish someone would make a large 8 inch titanium nail set in the Japanese style.

    It is called wrist pronation, it is the key to a great tennis stroke.
    One thing i still see people missing is the set - the little tap after the placement that allows the nail to stand independently and you to move the hand out of the way. This allows you to queue the next nail between your fingers and get the two hits in without any fingers in the way.
    It's just like firearms training: 1) aim small Miss small,
    2) train your off hand - balance you bio mechanical structure and you WILL need that skill someday soon. Because no situation presents itself perfectly every time.
    Great soccer players are Bi-footed. My dog is Pee-bidextrous - she pees like a girl, and she pees like a boy with either her right leg or left depending on what she wants to mark. Her best is the few times she has imitated the yoga pose of crow or crane. Up on her front legs hindquarters up in the air balancing and shooting the pee out the back side over the bush or whatever was in her way.

    How come your plywood zip wall system is hanging over your foundation? We like to set our bottom wall plate1/2 to 5/8 from the edge of our slab on grade or stem wall so wall systems are supported and flush with concrete for maximum waterproofing and support. For me as a home builder feels like a better way to go. We for years did it like your builds but now we like it flush with concrete.

    • @AwesomeFramers
      @AwesomeFramers  6 місяців тому

      Very common question. I don't see any value in flush. When we install siding, we want that proud of the concrete so everything drips past the concrete and doesn't run down the wall. I guess I would ask "what's the advantage of flush?"

    • @g-cgeneralcontractor8903
      @g-cgeneralcontractor8903 6 місяців тому

      @@AwesomeFramers that is a great point about the siding, but there still needs to be a weep screed at the bottom of your siding to channel water away from the wall once it gets down to the concrete at Foundation.
      Benefit is all that weight that is locked and nailed to that exterior paneling is actually sitting on some kind of support not just hanging on the framing which will just add additional load onto the Framing unnecessarily if it’s sitting on the actual foundation.
      Regardless of that, it still seems cleaner to run your foundation straps From your foundation to your paneling, and it be a smooth even transition not step out and have a weird transition below your wall line. As well, in the past, I’ve been concerned of water coming down slope , splashing up onto the footing and getting that bottom section of paneling wet and was concerned of that plywood wicking up the water onto the framing you are using the zip system, so should be sealed down there but still, if it’s flush with the foundation seems like a much better watertight transition between footing and structural exterior wall. And your siding will still be pronounced especially if you’re running a water screen or fur strips. Below siding.
      I’ve been building homes for about 30 years now maybe the first 10 I did like this.
      I’ve also had the pleasure of opening up some of those walls after about 10 years and inspecting the bottom plate connection between foundation and exterior wall versus flush exterior paneling non-flush exterior paneling, and flush exterior paneling seems to hold up 100 times better.
      I build homes in Beverly Hills, Hollywood, studio city, Hidden Hills,Toluca Lake, really high end homes And all the local contractors that I deal with they do it the same way as we do it run the footing foundation flush with exterior wall. Never have your exterior wall. Hang over the slab or footing. We have a little joke up around our parts between general contractors if you see that kind of work that’s the contractor that shouldn’t be on the job site. Because they’re trying to cut corners do it the easy way versus the super killer, efficient, clean and professional way.
      I’m not saying you guys are not really amazing builders because I believe you are that’s why I was wondering why you don’t run it flush with the footing

    • @AwesomeFramers
      @AwesomeFramers  6 місяців тому +1

      @@g-cgeneralcontractor8903 Interesting.
      We don't need a "weep screed" with the lap siding or board and batten siding we install. This is kicked out at the bottom somewhat and hangs past the wall sheathing. This plus the code required minimum 6" finished landscaping below the wall has ensured that the homes we've built for the last 46 years have had zero issues as you've described. As far as appearance, no one actually notices the difference IRL. So we elect to frame the house to the outside of the foundation as shown on the plans.

    • @g-cgeneralcontractor8903
      @g-cgeneralcontractor8903 5 місяців тому

      @@AwesomeFramers unfortunately homeowners will change landscaping you come back in a couple years and dirt will be 3 feet above your shiplap lol.
      I still try to waterproof foundation to sheeting about 2.3 feet up it’s above code but we do this as builders so the home is at least the minimum 100 year home.
      Yes, typically you’re supposed to have 2% flow away from the house but you know how that goes. Still thanks for the reply and great content 👍
