To me, doing the Forgotten Tower/Countess is much better overall than Tristram. Hands you some nice XP and lots of runes, which can also be cubed later
I loved Diablo 2 as a kid, I completely expanded packs and even used my step-dads cheat/God mode application 😅 I woke up to find my husband got me this and 3 for a late Bday gift, can't wait to enjoy, so much nostalgia!!! I do find it feels a bit slow to level us, the level 1 den is SO had, there are 4 beats with blue and green names that kill me in 1 hit 😔
Cows is actually a great way to gain XP and some gear and gold. Often times when I was leveling I'd load into cow games only to find they were leaving already but found tons of gear that was actually useful and some gold on the ground. It's tedious to walk and gather rather than just follow the group and grind out levels though.
This is a leveling guide for players who get rushed through the game. Meaning completed all 3 difficulty at lvl 1. If you actually play through the game, you'll be well over lvl 70+ by the time you finish the game. Then just cow/chaos/baal run the rest to lvl 99.
Fact1: Tower runs give you much more exp than Tristam runs. Reason1: you have 1 champion group every level and with a lil bit of luck, even 2. L shape maps. Reason2: BMarsh gives you 3/4 shrines, so you can farm them for a XP aswell. Bonus: you get runes. Fact2: Ruined Temple in Kurast Bazzar gives faster XP then Chaos runs, are much saffer. Fact3: Eldritch gives you a faster way to lvlup on single player then Ball or Diablo runs. And again, are much saffer. This for normal lvl-ing and for SinglePlayer
Great video and very well put together clear commentary and great explanations. I've just completed the game a few hours ago with a barb I have to say I enjoyed this one more then I did with 3, to me it provided more of a challenge and better boss fights. Think I'm going to start a run on nightmare this week I think so these tips will come in handy as I'm going forward and needing better items runs etc thank you :)

at lvl 20 you should go to A3 and run from spider forest to trav until you hit 24. im lvl 20 right now and its VERY slow in tal tombs. this is what im running into people might have a different experience
Lvls 1-5 blood more den of evil. Lvls 5-11 Tristan. Lvls 11-15 cat 2 and Andrial and will help you farm loot also. 15-20 tombs. 20-24 normal cows. It will take you 3-4 normal cow runs to lvl 20-24 unless 8 players 1 run will be sufficient. The rest as you have mentioned. This is the best way IMO. 25 years of D2 experience. Hope this helps. Thanks for the guide.
I did normal Pindleskin for a good while before nightmare to try and find a few good items to get me by for a while. Got a surprisingly large amount of XP per run. And a Steeldriver that I upgraded to exceptional and am now still using on my fury druid starting hell. Time to start looking for some good bases for runes now.
Nice guide ^^ Allthough i prefer more countess runs instead of tristram. Tbh... I dont know how each class performs on hell difficulty, but i can say as an amazon level 71, im still struggling in the first act. Especially by farming runes and all those fire resistance mobs xD Merc seems to be pretty useless, except for the aura of course, but unless there´s no option to make him passive in some way he is a huge money sink.
Any class that relies on fire damage will hit a wall in Hell difficulty, as it's full of fire immunes. That's when you respec to one of the more meta builds, like Lightning Javazon. The Merc goes from useless to beastmode once you give him life steal, cannot be frozen and some decent armor. Also make sure, that you double check his level - it's not uncommon for him to fall behind if you've leveled up quickly. In that case I recommend that you simply hire another merc in A2 NM, they'll always be close to your level. Just make sure to take the items off the old one, otherwise they'll disappear. If he's low level, he won't hit anything, as half of the to-hit calculation compares your level to the targets. No hit's mean no life leech & no damage -> useless & subsequently dead merc.
@@esprit101 As a first time player i hit that wall too , but as javazoon, dont know why everyone loves her , i mean ok she 1 hits everything but those pesky lighting immune monster give me headaches ... i respect to a hybrid with freezing synergy but it didnt work out that well... what else to do besides endless farming .. got the basic runewords too
@@nilskanneuchegalsein2593 The Lightning Javazon is a beast in terms of clearing trash and bosses if you have a decent gear and looted everything you need to have runewords like Peace, Rhyme and Lore which can be quite usefull And for the monsters with lightning resist, that's why you buy a Wand of Lower Resit from Malah. I don't know if you need a precise difficulty mode but I've found it in Normal. With this, you should destroy pretty much everything until your final respec, plus don't hesistate to skip Lightning Resist monsters if it gives you headache, you should have a staff of teleportation, use it ! Have a nice time thrusting through hell difficulty friend !
@thickock45 I don't have much of a difficulty as a Light Jav myself. Sure there's a lot of immunities, but when you run hell, you shouldn't focus on trash mobs with light immunities Also, keep running Baal/Diablo/Mephisto to upgrade your stuff like Titan's Resolve, Natalya's boots, etc it brings decent DPS if you're lucky on roll. Bursting through Hell difficulty isn't something you gonna have by just finishing Nightmare and jumping in, I'm stuck at mid Act 2 actually and make runs to upgrade my gear, Countess and everything helps a lot! Hope you still have a good time on the game tho, he deserves it!
I'm stuck at nightmare lvl 57. My gear sucks and i have been trying to get a crystal sword to create the spirit runeword. My damage is a bit low on act 4 nightmare still
If you still have your socket quest reward from Normal, farm normal cows. Any crystal sword there will get 4 sockets from that reward, so easiest place to farm the base for Spirit. If you don't have the reward still, it's still the best place to farm for the base crystal sword. just have to hope for it to drop with 4 sockets, or use a cube recipe to roll sockets onto it.
Yes you do. What he showcases in the video is the 'optimal' route veterans usually follow. Instead of playing the game 'normally' what most people do is for normal difficulty for example (as he said in the vid) instead of doing tristram once (quest 3 in act 1) they'll 'grind' the area over and over to gain more levels, the same in act 2: they'll run the tombs over and over to gain more levels. Once they hit 24 they'll cruise quickly through acts 2-5, this can include: playing online in public games with players that already have the waypoints saving precious time, skipping entire areas, skipping certain non-mandatory quests etc. You'll be around lvl 8 when doing tristram for the first time, but often people will stay there to get to a higher level resulting in getting 'ahead' enabling you to rush after that. Alternatively people would rush to the end of act 4 or 5, although they are under level because they know that these spots are great for farming exp and items. If you're a new player I would suggest just playing it normally and enjoy the ride, at least for the first couple of play throughs
@@greygoose8213 I think you took my statement and question out of context, what puma and I were asking is how to do rite of passage at level 24 right after act 2. The video doesn’t explain in the slightest that people are grinding out acts 3-5 to get to that point, he literally just says “do rite right when you ding 24 after act 2.”
@@smokinlao7369 I just finished act 2 and funny enough I am level 24. I played D2 years and years ago but I never picked up or played the expansions for it. At level 28 you should have no problem to kill Diablo on normal. It must be either how you allcolated your skill points or your equipment that needs an upgrade? For equipment you can make some cheap early runewords that easy will carry you through normal and nightmare. Also remember that when it comes to defence maxing out your resists are prio one, without elemental resists your HP gets shredded.
@@arondahlberg5086 I have so many runes sitting in my stash right now. I've just not been sure which ones would be best to use for a elemental/summoning Druid? The elemental resistance may in fact be where my issue lies. I'm finding myself only being able to take one or two hits from Diablo's fire attacks before I'm either critically wounded or dead.
@@andrewgreeley6649 make an ancients pledge, its "RalOrtTal" in a 3 socket shield, it gives you 40+ res in every resistent. You can also make a Stealth armor, 2 sockets body armor with TalEth, personally i use Stealth up until hell on most spellcasters. You can also make Lore in a 2 soclet helmet, OrtSol, cheap and can carry you into hell too. Something to look for is also the "Spirit" but for that you need a 4 socket sword and they do not start to drop until Nightmare. What you can do on the other hand is use a normal long sword or a Crystal Sword and use it on with the quest reward from quest 1 act 5, then you will always get max sockets. But you have to make sure that the ilvl on the sword is right. Between 26-40 if i remember right, and they start to drop in late act 5. Best way though is to farm the secret cowlevel on normal after you killed baal on act 5. Everthing there is ilvl 28, use it to add sockets at Larzuk and then pop the runes in. TalThulOrtAmn and you have Spirit which will carry you into early hell. You can also make the body armor with Smoke when you reach hell in order to pump your resists up. NefLum in a 2 socket armor. The if you're not lucky best bet to get a Lume rune is to farm countess on hell. Remember when you make a runeword that the base must have the exact number of sockets and be a normal 'white' item, superior items does bot work even if they are white. In order to not waste your runes keep that in mind 👍
I'm playing a Druid as well, what are your skill point allocations? I fought Diablo with roughly 14 points in Fissure and Firestorm and was able to spam fissure underneath him when he stands still. Maybe also look for some cheap fire resistance gear? And piggybacking on what Aron said, I would definitely look for some socketed items, Stealth is a great one that will last you easily to level 40-45. 2 socket body armor, TalEth runes.
@@Wyldbeard I finally beat Diablo this morning. with 7 points in Volcano, a single point in Grizzly Bear and 4 points into Raven. I actually do think I have some two socket armor in my stash right now. I just wasn't sure what to put in it that would work well with the Druid. lol
The jump from NM to Hell is insane. I barely got through act 1 Hell and am stuck their. Been going back to NM to try and farm things but man the RNG for me is crap. Starting to get discouraged tbh.
Hell is about farming specific areas depending on your build everyone has a rough time somewhere in hell because there's so many immunities until you get super geared that is.

Maybe a dumb question here but can I also use this guide if I want to level up my hardcore character to 99? I'm a trophy hunter and i'm still questioning wether this entire trophy list is do-able yes or no.
With a few obvious caveats which, if you've played hardcore, I don't really need to explain to you. But I'm bored so I'm gonna do it anyways cuz maybe someone else will read it, and also I just wanna work this out for myself. 1. Public games are great, just be careful with waypoints. It takes a split second for someone to go hostile, take a waypoint and obliterate you, and sometimes people train monsters over to the WP so that when you take it you're immediately stunlocked. 2. If something is less efficient but also less dangerous, maybe do that instead. 3. I'm gonna go take a poop, brb.
Idk if it's just me, but I feel like when you're in a multiplayer game, the person who gets the last hit on an enemy get way more experience. I've been playing with my bf, and we have to both stop killing at some point to allow the other to catch up in leveling. Is this a bug, or just unfortunate game design? edit: figured it out, we never actually joined a party, and were just playing in a private server together. Sorta strange how you don't automatically join a party of the person you invited to the server. but it's whatever, we figured it out in the end.
I'm noticing the same thing. I think there last patch messed it up. I play with a friend and I'm now way ahead of him since my assassin traps take his kiills
I have never heard of that. My guess would be that you're either too far from each other or a different level: some areas have severe xp penalties if you're under level (or over), for example - you'll need to be at least level 25 to get experience from normal baal runs (end of act 5), if you're below that level you'll get close to nothing, you'll get much more exp by going back literally all the way to act 2.
we're usually almost right next to each other throughout the two times we've played. We both started at the same time so we're the same level, and just started act 2.
@@joomiwack5614 The quest always gives a flat amount of xp so people aiming for 99 try to delay it as much as possible because you get huge diminishing returns on xp gains at higher levels so you can makea nice dent in your bar at 98 saving you many many extra baal runs. That being said 99 isn't realistic for most players so just do it w/e you can/want.

Great! Let’s keep going with D2! I’m waiting for Druid Sumoner 🙏
Im waiting for Tesladin, his guides are best!

I loved Diablo 2 as a kid, I completely expanded packs and even used my step-dads cheat/God mode application 😅
I woke up to find my husband got me this and 3 for a late Bday gift, can't wait to enjoy, so much nostalgia!!!
I do find it feels a bit slow to level us, the level 1 den is SO had, there are 4 beats with blue and green names that kill me in 1 hit 😔
Sell 3.
Cows is actually a great way to gain XP and some gear and gold. Often times when I was leveling I'd load into cow games only to find they were leaving already but found tons of gear that was actually useful and some gold on the ground. It's tedious to walk and gather rather than just follow the group and grind out levels though.
Helped a lot bro, thanks

This is a leveling guide for players who get rushed through the game. Meaning completed all 3 difficulty at lvl 1. If you actually play through the game, you'll be well over lvl 70+ by the time you finish the game. Then just cow/chaos/baal run the rest to lvl 99.
Pretty accurate. Im currently level 43 on nightmare catacombs almost to andy. I clear every area and don't skip anything.
I'm single element sorceress so I cant get past hell ancients. So I have to grind ancient tunnels or pindle.
@@unicyclepeon I'm a single element sorc too, just create a game and do it with other players.
Yeah I'm LVL 80 at Hell Act 4 and barely farmed in nightmare, not at all normal and a couple times in Hell
1:50 No idea how you skipped from act 2 to 5. Is this for online chars only?

Very helpful guide!
Another awesome guide,
keep up!
just the guide i needed on this rainy day :)
Thanks for the tips! I'm stuck on the act 2 boss at lvl 21!! I'm definitely going to hit up Tal Rashas tombs.
Ps, it's pronounced "bale" not "ball"
You’re not the only one. Duriel is a big hurdle to get through for most players on most builds. If that helps.

at lvl 20 you should go to A3 and run from spider forest to trav until you hit 24. im lvl 20 right now and its VERY slow in tal tombs.

Excellent, useful information as always.
Thanks for this✌
I must say, very well written/edited guide !!!!
Good guide!
I did normal Pindleskin for a good while before nightmare to try and find a few good items to get me by for a while. Got a surprisingly large amount of XP per run. And a Steeldriver that I upgraded to exceptional and am now still using on my fury druid starting hell. Time to start looking for some good bases for runes now.
just joining a group and doing the quest in order is also s great way to level up.
But these tips are great for a solo player

4:43 Was this setting included in the basic game as well? I didn't know that you can configure this setting by manually. Good to know.
Yes it was but it only works on singleplayer though.
I'm still level 65 on nightmare and haven't completed the ancients quest
Nice guide ^^ Allthough i prefer more countess runs instead of tristram.
Tbh... I dont know how each class performs on hell difficulty, but i can say as an amazon level 71, im still struggling in the first act.
Especially by farming runes and all those fire resistance mobs xD
Merc seems to be pretty useless, except for the aura of course, but unless there´s no option to make him passive in some way he
is a huge money sink.
@@esprit101 As a first time player i hit that wall too , but as javazoon, dont know why everyone loves her , i mean ok she 1 hits everything but those pesky lighting immune monster give me headaches ... i respect to a hybrid with freezing synergy but it didnt work out that well... what else to do besides endless farming .. got the basic runewords too
@@nilskanneuchegalsein2593 The Lightning Javazon is a beast in terms of clearing trash and bosses if you have a decent gear and looted everything you need to have runewords like Peace, Rhyme and Lore which can be quite usefull
And for the monsters with lightning resist, that's why you buy a Wand of Lower Resit from Malah.
Sure there's a lot of immunities, but when you run hell, you shouldn't focus on trash mobs with light immunities
Also, keep running Baal/Diablo/Mephisto to upgrade your stuff like Titan's Resolve, Natalya's boots, etc it brings decent DPS if you're lucky on roll.
Thanks for the video! What’s the song in the outro though? I really like it 😊
I don't get it, you start a new game to level up a character? So, you make no progress on a million different characters?
I'm stuck at nightmare lvl 57. My gear sucks and i have been trying to get a crystal sword to create the spirit runeword. My damage is a bit low on act 4 nightmare still
If you still have your socket quest reward from Normal, farm normal cows. Any crystal sword there will get 4 sockets from that reward, so easiest place to farm the base for Spirit. If you don't have the reward still, it's still the best place to farm for the base crystal sword. just have to hope for it to drop with 4 sockets, or use a cube recipe to roll sockets onto it.
Do the chat commands for adding players offline work on console? I’m playing on Xbox.
Unfortunately no
Any update on the endgame barb builds?
A WW build will probably suffice brotha.
How do you get to ancients quest at level 24? Don’t you need to complete the act 1-4 to start act 5?
Same question… I have no idea what I’m doing. Looool.
@@Spoonylove85 you should be at act V at this level so just farm a lil bit more and you’ll be able to clear act IV

When you say create a new game do you mean to exit and restart the same game?
How do you use your enchant sorceress on your own level 1 toon?
This is what I came to the comments to find out. Do you have 2 accounts? Can you open up 2 Diablo clients at the same time? How do you do this?
wondering about the same thing myself
I'm playing an Elemental/Summon Druid at lvl 28 right now. I can't seem to get past Diablo any advice on how to beat him?
I just wasn't sure what to put in it that would work well with the Druid. lol
Does the player setting work for private online games as well or only offline mode?
Would this change in Hardcore?
Do you recomend p8 since start (lvl1) playing solo?
Can you clarify 'start a new game?' Do you mean to literally start over with your same character?
He means exit to character selection/game creation and go back in order to respawn monsters.
I've noticed it's MUCH faster to go into Cows after Tomb Runs. Do that until 30, takes a few minutes. Then jump into Baal until 40.
Does the trick of players x8 works on solo playing on console? Either Playstation or xbox?
One thing I would say different is 20-24 cows is significantly faster than tombs. By like a mile it's not even funny
Sure, but unless you're being levelled by someone else, you won't make it to Cows on your own by level 24.
Wat does cow stand for
What is, and where do I find "Rite of Passage"?....... I mean you mention it like it should be known but I just started playing again after what?.... 15 years! Is it possible to do the /playersX trick on console?
Maybe a dumb question here but can I also use this guide if I want to level up my hardcore character to 99? I'm a trophy hunter and i'm still questioning wether this entire trophy list is do-able yes or no.
no
With a few obvious caveats which, if you've played hardcore, I don't really need to explain to you.
This is a great video, now if I could just get lucky enough to pull a Titans - I don't even care how nice or not nice it is, my Amazon is hoping!!!

They need to add /player 8 to consoles asap.
Your game looks so crisp. Is that just the quality of 4k, or have you done some optimizing of the game graphics somehow?

Its BAIL not ball - they say his name several times in the cut scenes - GREAT video though!

I still don’t know the reason why you need to do the quest in lvl 60? Is there additional exp when you do it in certainlevels?
that's the minimum level to do the ancients in hell if you're 59 and below you don't meet the requirements and the quest literally never completes.
@@bravepotatoe7513 ohhh good to know! I thought like that’s the best lvl for peeps to do that quest to get the most exp. thanks for the info!
