Inkscape vs Illustrator When Creating SVG Cut Files

This video is long past due! Last time we went over all the different programs used to create SVG files where I used your how to trace an image and convert it into an SVG files. Well today we dive in deeper and go over the differences between these two popular SVG design programs. The premium Adobe Illustrator, and a free program called Inkscape. I know this one will help if you are on the fence about which program to use!

I am loving your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am an Inkscape user, and had a quick note about tracing. Using Inkscape, you traced using 16 colours. That gave you 16 layers, including the white outline. If you ungrouped, it would allow you to delete the unwanted layers, including the white background 😊 With Inkscape, you only need to trace by the #of colours you have in the picture. I go a little higher, so I don't miss the ones my eyes don't register, but still delete the unwanted ones.
Ones the file is converted to an svg, you can resize it, by pulling the corners (when it's selected), like you do in any graphics program. It will not distort, because it is an SVG.
There are so many actions that work the same as Illustrator, unfortunately this video doesn't do Inkscape justice. 😔 Nevertheless, I love your teaching, videos and designs! Please don't get me wrong on that!

Thank you for the comparison. I use AI because I learned it from you in class. I like it. But when my Internet was out due to the storm, I wish I had an alternative that did not depend on the Internet to verify my subscription. I'll look into Inkscape later for SVG creation. I will also look into Affinity Designer for creating SVGs. AD has a one time fee. I will try it out and see if I can create something simple in AI and AD. For now, I will concentrate on expanding my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator.
