@@RcaHellemons1972 that’s it, so many things that make that 17 seconds unrealistic. Not that I’m saying being at the furtherest point on the pond to your swim is ok. But I’d wager most anglers could get back long before they could do it when fully asleep in that chalet in the middle of the night.
you really should consider barbeless hooks. if you have a break there alot more chance of the hook falling out where ive pulled out many fish with the line and hook still attached when there is a barbed hook .
Hi Benedict, I enjoy your series on how you built your own lake from scratch and the challenges you have faced and overcome. I have a couple of suggestions for you:- Did you consider Gripz hooks from Pallatrax in your deliberations. Super sharp, strong hook holds that don't move around whilst the tension is on. Super sharp which stay sharp, fish after fish - no need to sharpen. Hooks come out easily once the fish is landed often leaving no sign in the mouth of where the hook was located i.e. minimal mouth damage! Would also suggest that you consider making the use of fish antiseptic and wound treatment mandatory, either as a rule or provided with net, mat and sling.
barbless all day long, just go to thorpe fisheries in egham and see the state of the carps mouths, theres very little left, gary insists on barbed hooks to the detriment of the fish, barless make a puncture wound, barbed rip chunks out, over time theres no meat left around the mouth
Don’t know the pros and cons of each hook but if you got to my local commercial with a max hook size of 12 and barbless only and all the carp have a mouth the size of a piece of sweetcorn 😬
Totally agree, if you have tight line and good contact with the fish a barbless hook will not move in the fishes mouth. Its a shame that Ben has gone done this route as would of liked to visit Kev's pool. But don't want to use barbed hooked which is a shame.
You forgot to do the test of tethering two fish up, one barbless and one barbed and see which one dies or has the least chance of ever getting off. I agree the barbed should move less, but sacrifice a cut for a hugely higher escape or hook ridding chance?
it will rust out if the rig is safe the lead should be gone and unless its trailing 70ft of line it ent gonna die in that lake nothing for it to get tangle and die from
Rule 2 was an unfair test as he was ready to get out the bed as was awake. Gotta add a few more seconds to the 1st time lol probs closer to 25 seconds from bed to rod from a sleeping start
Yes, fish in in small commercial fisheries do often have damaged mouths, and that's because they are caught so often, barbed or barbless will cause damage, but barbless does cause less damage. You stick a barbed in your finger, ill stick a barbless in mine, and lets see who's going to hospital. You have done a fantastic job, well done, if you wish to see mine, and if you ever fancy a walk round please do, your most welcome anytime, Nigel Harrhy, Barston Lakes.
Fair rules. I look forward to the time I can book up a midweek fish. I will look but no doubt most prob going to be a long list trying to got on it. Good luck and tight lines to whom ever gets to fish it before I do.

Test the magic twig out yourself, mimic a break off , like you've just lost a fish and you'll see the damage it causes. It's not the rig hooking mechanism that's the issue, it's more the danger of the arms that spring out once the twig is activated , they will be getting caught in weeds in the event of a break off or when the fish bolts and takes line. Attach it to your line, activate the magic twig, and then grab the end of your line, the end that would be in the fishes mouth if you had a fish on, and pull it through weeds. The arms that have activated on the magic twig stick out and latch onto everything in its path. The magic twig's then act as a grapple, and it WILL kill fish.
Imagine an anchor attached to a boat with rope whilst it's sailing, the arms of the anchor are getting caught on rocks, snags, wood, weeds etc. That's the equivalent of the magic twig (the anchor) attached to the fish (the boat) , getting caught whilst it's swimming. Really not good.
Never had my hands on one, probably never will tbh buuuut if they are as tough as you seem to think when the arms are out, it will probably cut through weed. If you get hung up on a stick, then surely the plastic which is pliable enough to flex in the first place will move... if it gets hung up. You probably would have anyway & rock part... well it should never really be in the situation to snag up on rocks.... its not a marker lead, its not to be bounce along the bottom. If a fish takes the whole thing we are trying to do is keep it up off the bottom... & if you want to say a what about a ledge then i say... what about the lead?? Lead clip... dropped lead. Line could still rub the shelf.... end of the day things happen. Fish die.. we shouldnt really care about fish dying so much if all that we try & do is pull them out the water & try to suffocate them for a bit them go naaaah jokess back you go pal 😂😂 so yeah... who cares that much at the end of the day things happen 😊
It won't cut through weed because it's a flat arm, there's videos online of them bringing thick weed back in. In the event of a break off, the magic twig would be the heaviest part of the rig that's still attached to the fish, causing it to scrape along the bottom and snag, whilst still attached to the fish. The lead on a clip set up will drop off in the event of a line break , the magic twig won't, it's fixed on the line. You clearly have no idea how the magic twig works, so I'm not sure how you have strong opinions on it. We can still fish and have a standard of fish safety. Not to mention Ben is a fishery owner, I'm sure he'd want to protect his investments that cost thousands ££ even if he hypothetically didn't care about fish safety.
@CymruCelt01 yeah cut through weeds.... hence why he's saying it brings a lot of weed in.... if it didn't cut through it, it wouldn't be brought in you tool 🤣🤣 you think weed just floats in the water?? No it grows.. I.e attached... to some where & to release that it need to be cut in some form. Simple

@@adamevo6It's not the fish's mouth that can get damaged, we've all had a fish on with barbless for it to come out and hook the fish elsewhere, if the fins get damaged it could be game over.
I think you have a possible issue with policing the Hooks rule. As a Commercial Angler we only use barbless hooks unless we fish reservoirs or large naturals including Rivers where barbed hooks are allowed (Dependant on owners decision). I think the issue of fish shedding a Barbless hook as opposed to a Barbed hook is in favour of Barbless especially when it comes to Fish being tethered. Also the majority of Fisheries wont allow for any Lead/Feeder/Bomb to be fixed. i.e. The Bomb/Feeder/Lead has to be free running as this allows for the weight to fall of in the event of a break off. The twig is definitely a big No No as is the case of Rods left unattended. Other wise not to many issues. Good luck with your Fishery. Cheers

Ea baliff wont take your tackle at all (seen it happen) theyll just send a court summons to appear in court . But a police officer can. (Had it happen nr 30yr ago) and we were float fishing on a pond in a farmers field- not a fishery.
Having landed cats (which fight harder than carp) over 45lb on 12lb line, I agree. Even when they charge into lily beds, 12lb line worked fine. (Daiwa sensor too, not even expensive line). However, lake rules are lake rules - and it's not like you're casting far in that pool, so losing some casting distance to go to the thicker line isn't a huge issue. Might even help some newcomers who crank the drag up solid when playing fish to avoid snapping off (they'll just hook pull instead)

I guess that was the main rules then but good ones all the same nice to see you not hang Ali right away too 👏🏻👏🏻
as it’s just a square with no features it don’t matter that it’s done 5 laps of the pond before you make you way out of bed to the swim 😂
how much are you charging per 24hr. wife and i would enjoy a relaxed session there with sensible rules.
ps are you allowing baitboats to reach far banks for baiting as exclusive bookings.
Ya may wanna google what (the maximum distance is) is classed as leaving rods unattemded, the bed is probably further than it.
Pretty sure its a law.
That's a by-law I came across last year, l don't think it's UK wide, bailiff told me no more than a rod's length away in his stab vest lol
How can you control or check the BS of line?
Measure the diameter.
Don't even need to reel in, can be done on the pod / bank sticks.
What happens if they snap off, will they shed the hook??
No swimming 😅 no drugs
No excessive, ott camouflage gear.....
So have u only got 1 swim for the lake
can you walk the bank with one rod and net ect to try stalk out a fish not bivvy up,,???
It's like a Mcdonalds advert. It's "A" pond not a lake.
This lake is for local people.....isn't it Tubbs?
We don't need a Rod License in Scotland bud. Unless fishing the Esk...which flows into England.
Well, seeing as this lake isn't in Scotland yours is a moot point.
I never put my shoes on when I have a night take
Ben are adding other fish in the lake
Will you add a few pegs as one peg ain't getting your money back any time soon
No fishing license required in Scotland at all can fish public water all you want
7 hundred thousand........ so will be paid back in and making some profit come 3067
just on the dogs rule, will you allow service dogs, as some of us need them for day to day life
Micro barbed 🙌
What happens if someone wees in the lake ?
Ea baliff wont take your tackle at all (seen it happen) theyll just send a court summons to appear in court .
But a police officer can. (Had it happen nr 30yr ago) and we were float fishing on a pond in a farmers field- not a fishery.
What about tiger nuts? They aren't actually nuts and people with nut allergies can eat them???
and peanuts are not nuts, its actually a lagume
Only ginger nuts permitted
only ginger nuts permitted
Is this Carp fishing?
Not really, just some bloke with a few quid showing us his personal lake, sry, pond..
And a place to plug products it seems...
Peanut allergy, any other dietary requirements 😅
The only one that i think is a bit odd is the minimum of 15lb line
Having landed cats (which fight harder than carp) over 45lb on 12lb line, I agree.
Even when they charge into lily beds, 12lb line worked fine. (Daiwa sensor too, not even expensive line).
However, lake rules are lake rules - and it's not like you're casting far in that pool, so losing some casting distance to go to the thicker line isn't a huge issue.
Might even help some newcomers who crank the drag up solid when playing fish to avoid snapping off (they'll just hook pull instead)
Type of fishery i would personally avoid 🤷♂️
