A friends daughter just found an "FT" at a estate sale so I watched your nicely done video so I could help her with it.
Early on, you mentioned stretching a 36 exposure film roll to 37 or 38 exposures. In my 30 years as a professional photographer, I learned the hard way to always finish at the specified exposure number. You will be amazed how many times, the picture you want the most, comes back from the processor cut in half or obliterated by a production sticker because you tried to get an extra frame of two. Just not worth it in the long run
Thank you for your comment! I totally agree with your opinion! But sometimes I found it interesting with the cropped photos too! I think in these days the film camera is getting hard to spot, so the cropped film photo is also kind of fun to have. :) However, I totally agree with your comment about getting perfect images in long run! Thank you! :)
What a look vintage. What a amazing quality🥰
Thank you for enjoying my video! :)
Loved this video. I have inherited my grandfathers Canon FT QL, would love to know how to use it to its best abilities today... this was an inspiring video
Thank you for loving my video! Really glad and means alot that my video inspired you! :) Take out your camera with you and enjoy the experiences! I believe it will be meaningful experience to both you and your grandfather! Thank you!
Inherited my grandfathers canon ft Ql as well! Just got 2 rolls of film! Could not be more excited to use it!
@@Soccerdude5 Me too! I know nothing about photography so I'm a little nervous and still overly careful with the camera but I'm also really excited to try it out :))
There was plenty of color film available in the 1960s (and earlier). That is why so many of the older Canons (and Nikons) have 1.2 and 1.4 lenses. Kodachrome was a very slow film. By the way, many of the fast Canon FL lenses use radioactive glass.
Wonderful, beautiful photos and I love the music you used in the video.
Thank you for enjoying and loving my video!! Thank you!!
Nice video and thank you for your review. However, I find it to be quite funny when people complain about the weight of these very solid well-built metal tanks that old school photographers relied on during the 1960s and ‘70s, many of them carrying two or three of them around their neck. Perhaps it’s a good thing for you that you were not yet even born then, let alone having any aspirations to be a photographer back in the day. As a hobbyist who has recently discovered vintage SLR film photography, I oftentimes carry 2-3 vintage film SLRs around my neck, all of them quite heavy, such as my Nikon F, my Minolta SRT-303, etc., to name a few. For me, the heavier weight of these wonderful cameras is a part of their charm!
Thank you for sharing your experience and thought! I agree with your thought too. At the time when I was shooting this video, I had to walk quite a bit, and was not used to this much heavy camera. Nowadays I got used to the camera weight and it is ok now...! :)
@@plusalphastudio 🙂 But you don’t want to cause neck or back problems for yourself either. You have to make that determination for yourself. Happy shooting!
It’s an amazing camera and definitely a keeper for me. Not really noticed the weight issue in use.
Hi! I bought one of these this weekend, looking forward to it arriving, got it for £25. I really enjoyed your video, very simple and not too much speaking which was perfect, I also liked being able to see the pictures on the screen as you took them. Could you do another video with this camera using black and white film? Also your English is very good! Thank you for making this video!
Thank you for enjoying my video!! I hope I can do some more videos some day in close future! Thank you for your support!!
I have that camera and it is not that heavy. Photographers back in the 60's and 70's didn't have any problem with it. Today's "photographers" want cameras that weigh like a phone.
Great video and I love all the photos! Thanks for sharing. Very helpful for a beginner like me.
Thank you for enjoying my video!! :)
Fabulous basic camera. Built like a tank! The best of the best was the FTBn QL!
I agree!! It is good camera indeed!!
Not as heavy as the Pentax 67 which I carry all of the time. I say, the Canon FT will help build muscles LOL. Nice video
Oh..! Pentax67 is heavy right?? I agree with you! Haha 😆
Oh finally, another great film camera review, well job 👍 could you review the Canonet QL17 III, a legend RangeFinder
Thanks again for enjoying the video, and sorry that it took so long to upload another film camera review. Currently I do not own Canonet QL17 III at the moment and my Early generation canonet turn out to be not repairable.... I'll try to look for Canonet QL17 III from my friends to borrow, or I'll get it from somewhere soon and do some review! Upcoming film camera review (which I took video already, and planned) is Canon Prima 5 (Canon Autoboy mini or Sure shoot max) and Olympus OM-1! Furthermore, I'm planning to do portrait photography video with film camera! Thank you for your recommendation and I'll try to take video with Canonet QL17 III as soon as I get the camera!
I'm new to this. I still dont know how to set ISO on my camera with the ISO 500 roll
I’m starting film photography and I’m looking at getting iver the ae1 or ft
Great! Both are great camera, but I recommend ae-1, just because it is lighter in weight :)
I own both the AE-1 and The FTb (an upgrade to the FT). Both are excellent cameras!
Nice shots!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video! Love it.
Thank you for enjoying my video!! :)
Thanks for sharing, very interesting video!
혹시 노출계 보는 방법도 알려주실 수 있을까요?ㅜㅜ
This is so good! Thanks for making it. 🙂
Thank you for enjoying my video!!
Great video and great shots 👍👍👍
Thank you for enjoying my video!!
Great video !!!
Thank you!!
I happen to own the Pellicle camera brother of the FT (the Canon Pellix). due to scarcity of parts now, if it fails i'll be buying one of these as a replacement :3
Old cameras are some times very hard to find the parts.. I'm trying to fix some old cameras for years, but still haven't got parts haha... :)
great video! gonna have this one soon!
Thank you for liking my video!
What specific camera/s would you suggest for a beginner or someone who wants to try film photography? Thanks! Btw love your photos. 😍
Thank you for enjoying my video! For the beginner at film photography, I recommend point and shoot cameras like olympus mju-1,or canon autoboy! They are very light and compact. Also they are easy to use!!
If you want to get a little bit more control on your photo, such as having out focus or have a different look then point and shoot, I recommend yashica electro 35! This is the camera I started film photography! It is fairly easy to use and has a great lens! You can check it out on my video!
I hope my comment to be helpful to you! Thank you!!
3:52 You took a picture of yourself here !?
Ah, the picture on 3:52, is my friend who was videotaping me haha.
I have one the same. Never used it so far. It is surprisingly heavy.
it is a good camera, but really really heavy.... It made my back hurt haha
Strange in My FTbQL you have to pull the lever up & it opens like all SLR's there is no bottom button!
FT is an older style. FTb is a newer style with some refinements.
Awesome shots!!! I love how much bokeh you get on that 1.4 lens. Did you shoot most of these wide open?
I should be getting my first roll of ColorPlus back this week.
I did used my lens wide open at 1.4 for the bokeh. And that day was so gloomy, so I need to open to get more light!
I wonder how your photo came out. Must be interesting. :)
Canon ft or pentax mz-50?
what is the light meter? and what if it doesnt work? does it affect the camera?
The light meter is what tells you how much the light is needed to take a good photo. If the light meter does not work, it is hard to tell rather it is too bright or too dark. If it does not work, then it is hard to take a photo. You have to predict the shutter speed and aperture. Also, in this camera you cannot set the shutter speed manually, so it will not take photo correctly.
@@plusalphastudio I was planning to get this camera but the light meter doesn't work. the seller told me that I can still take good photos as long as I know how to set the shutter and aperture correctly and he said that I can still use this camera full manually w/o light meter. btw, thank you for answering :)
Oh sorry for the answer. I thought this comment was on yashica electro 35. It is my mistake...:( you can set the shutter speed manually on this camera! You can still take a good picture, but if the light meter does not work, then you have to predict the right amount of light you need. You can practice a bit then you can get a good picture. But I do not recommend this camera if you are new to photography. This camera is a bit heavy... and if the light meter does not work, you have to practice some. I hope it is informative information. And sorry again for my mistake. Cheers!
@@plusalphastudio no, it's okay. i really appreciate that you answered my question. thank you :)
bro te amo mi futura esposa me la va regalra por mi cumpleaños y gracias a ti me he decidido por esta camara
Thank you for enjoying my video! :)
Good presentation and information video!
Thank you for enjoying my video!!!
Plus Alpha Studio, no thank you for an excellent presentation. I’ve been a photographic collector and shooter for over 60 years now. My father taught me all about exposure, composition and the mechanics of the photographic process back in the mid to late 50’s when I was very young. I was born in 1947! I learned on his new 1954 Leica M3 double stroke as well as a IIIf. I still have both of them. I’ll be 73 this August 28th and while I’m an old hand at 35mm and medium format photography, I was captivated by your presentation. Enough so to watch the entire video. BRAVO, don’t lose your enthusiasm.
Wow... sorry that I saw this comment now..! Great respect on your love to the photography..! Really impressed to know your experience! Thank you for sharing!!
What is the differentiation between ft ql and ftb ql except their mount
Except the lens that the camera can mount (FT - FL mount / FTb - FL & FD mount) both cameras are pretty much same camera. However, there are FTbn, which you cannot find out with the engraving, has few minor differences. Although a few differences, FT, FTb, FTbn are pretty much same camera!
Ft and Ftb can use the same lense, FL and FD The FT is stop down metering with all lenses, Ftb is stop down with the fl lens and open with Fd lens. Ft has a cold flash mount.
Bro pls rply me i have ask you something about yashika electro
I replied on the comment you left in my Yashica Electro 35 video!
I check the comment everyday, but since there are time differences, it takes me a while to reply.
Thank you for watching.
FD lens works on this camera?
FD lens also work on this camera with stop down mode.
@@plusalphastudio thanks for your help!
No worries!
You should pick up a Canon QL 17. It's got a great lens f1.7 and is a very light rangefinder with the quick loading feature.
I hope I could use one someday later!!
Superbe vidéo, merci !
Merci!!
THANK YOU!!!
Korean? Same but live in HK
Expired films are fire specially in concerts
Yeah I totally agree haha
Nice & Thanks :)
Thank you! :)
Nicee
Thank you!
it's too heavy it's too heavy...common stop whining, it's not like your holding a mamiya rb67 or something...it's heavy because it's all metal which in the end it's worthy mainly because of the quality of the image and the reliability of the camera...very nice pictures by the way
The Weight was why the 2 inch wide strap was popular.
The weight of the camera has it's advantage to stabilize the camera. At slower shutter speeds it's a lot easier to get sharp images. Light weight cameras like p&s are harder to stabilize at the same lower shutter speed.
The build quality is all metal so it's a lot sturdier and will easily survive a fall unlike plastic bodied cameras. The FT series was considered a semi-pro or enthusiast camera. The pro camera was the F1 and was a bit larger and heavier. Also the larger body meant that it could handle larger heavy telephoto lenses 200mm+. For comfort , I'd recommend a wide neoprene strap to distribute the weight. The original strap is thin and will cause discomfort in long outings. The fact it's all mechanical is the reason I enjoy it the most since you will learn on how to read light based on the iso/shutter spd/aperture settings.
That chunk of metal weighs 1kg. I wouldn't want to hang a kilo of gym equipment on my neck all day long man.
Yeah I agree haha.
You have to be really fragile to think that is heavy and say you’re whole body hurts. That’s a little too much.
Yeah.. I think I was a bit tired at that day haha
