I have a deeply personal relationship with this cantata. I was to sing it at a recital, and there were the two scores on IMSLP, this one and a super convoluted one from the 19th century. The organist, who was my former theory professor, did not want to improvise for this movement, and he did not want to play the super complicated written out part on the second score. So he asked me to write out my own continuo part for the first movement. I did, and when I presented it to him, he tells me "this is good, but you know, there will be strings at the recital. And we have a flautist, too. Why don't you write out a full arrangement?" which seemed like such an excessive last minute task, but I see now he was testing me. I did write out the arrangement, and it was like I was discovering a lost concerto as I was writing it. I'm not claiming I did it exactly as Bach would have done, but I did feel like I gained an insight into how Bach wrote. I looked all throughout the score and realized there were several places where canon was possible, and I exploited implied imitations that are not written in the score itself but which I am certain Bach was aware of. A recording exists, though my voice was very sore that day and I am a bit ashamed of it, though I hope to sing it again soon.
The curious part is that the third movement was entirely written out - that was super annoying to transcribe, as the part is so obviously written for keyboard. The third movement may have been even harder - because the first movement technically had no "wrong" way to do it.

If you wait until 2026, the NBA file will most likely be up online on "that site" for this volume. (and I got three more volumes coming for 2025 in a few days of Series V and VII from 1999).
If the world hasn't ended by then - might be lucky at this rate
@@TheOneAndOnlyZeno Sorry its going to end on December 31st 2024 so you won't have a chance... no just kidding!
how about some Porpora instead? or Pergolesi?
I would like to create urtext of both composers in the future...
Porpora's Salve Regina in F, and Pergolesi's Laudate pueri Dominum
Are we sure this cantata is not spurious? It seems very strange to me the use of Italian, which I don't think Sebastian Bach knew.
According to Wikipedia and some good sources - it is definitely Bach - he also composed BWV 207, another Italian cantata.
Italian language was very important in the XVIII century culture, it was the language of the opera and of the music. Opera was written practically only in italian. So it's not strange at all that also Bach, who known well Italian music (he transcribed for organ a lot of Vivaldi concertos) wrote a cantata in Italian. Moreover, is proved that the text of this cantata is probably written by a german native speaker who known italian very bad.
