Jarreau was pure genius. If you listen to the original recording of "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck, ( who wrote it..) you'll appreciate Jarreau's version all the more. AJ essentially sang all of the saxophone parts with his voice..
Al Jarreau is a musical genius! You should check out some of his other songs like "Agua de Beber", "Says", "After All", "We're in this love together", "So Good" and many others. Thanks for this reaction
Al was the modern eras make version of the great Ella Fitzgerald who brought scat singing on the map in the 50’s and 60’s. Al could sing anything and make it sound amazing, RIP the Legend
so happy to see you discover the greatness that was Al Jarreau. He died around the same time as George Michael and all the big award shows ignored him but celebrated George Michael. We have to elevate and celebrate our own!
Imagine being twenty something, sitting on the 3rd row seeing AJ in concert for the first time and not knowing what to expect. My mind was blown..... 😳 😲🤯
scat singing is definitely a skill and talent few people can execute! Esperanza Spalding is another jazz artist that does it pretty well in her own way. you should check her out as well.
This is jazz, baby! Lol. Al Jarreau is a genius. I first fell in love with the jazz side of him and to this day the pop and R&B side of him doesn't hit me as hard. This song is what reaction channels are made for, songs that completely take you by surprise. I love your reaction: from "What is this?" to "how is he doing that?" to socks completely blown off. I HIGHLY recommend that you listen to the original instrumental version by Dave Brubeck from his "Time Out" album. It's one of the most famous jazz songs ever.
Oh yes that is the late legend Al Jarreau, known for scatting, he was a master in it! Al J., did also great R&B songs besides being a jazz artist!!! I saw the beginning of how confused you were and once he started scatting, the amazement and enjoyment of what you were listening to!! There is another great performance of him from that same concert “Wait for the magic”, very different from what you have just listened to.
Sunday afternoon ..... me and my girls sipping wine, playing bid whist, and listening to Jarreau. It was the early 70's and we were in our 20's. Life was soooo good.
Let me say first if all, thanks for reviewing Al Jerreau on your channel. I used to listen to him. He's like a music machine. One minute he's singing lyrics, 20 seconds he's being a horn section, then a few minutes of being a whole drum section with all the percussive sounds. His mother must've said Wow, this kid could be a whole orchestra by himself! So incredible! As a kid , I also practiced Alto, Soprano, 1st Soprano, and tenor and bass. It's like smoking a joint listening to him. That was just him.
Seeing him in concert is a non-stop adventure. I mean you could bearly blink or you'd miss something. He didn't need music. Although he played several instruments, his entire body was an instrument. He was a phenomenal talent. Check out his rendition of Compared to What. Listen to songs Spain, Distracted, Moonlighting, Since I Fell for You...
Al Jarreau's song "Morning" is simple and was on the top 40 pop list but it brings happy tears to my eyes. Tears of joy because everything is "fine here in my mind"
I Love some Al Jarreau, met him at an album signing one time... very kind man!🙂 This is why you have to experience All types of music! If you don't experience All types of music you miss out on some Great History, Great Singers, Great Instrumentalist, Great Artist an Artistry, and just plain old Great Music!😁🤩😍
Man I miss Al Jarreau so much in this world. My dad took me to an Al Jarreau concert when I was 10 years old and it inspired me to pursue my musicianship as a pianist and keyboard player and a whole Nother level. He is one of the greatest of all time male vocalist. She could sing anything but his genre was mostly jazz and R&B. His improv, vocal ease and Scadding was incomparable. I would say Bobby McFerrin and him both GOATs in their own right. You made a very good observation when you said this is where rap comes from Pierre if you go back to the 1930s and 40s you are absolutely correct. Rest in heaven Al Jarreau. We miss you so much. Thank you for reviewing this❤
Bobby incorporated Arabic/African phrasing with strains of Ravi Shankar sitarist blessings. If you listen to Middle Eastern music, Indian, Jewish Cantors and Bantu, Xhosa western African singing you pretty much have the history of singing. Some of those Indian and Jewish notes are so outwardly they scare me as to the real origins. But part of the heritage is tuning while you play. To master their instruments we are talking years. Open your hearts and ears.
We took our kids to go see Al a year before he passed in a small patio setting in a vineyard. Super intimate and up close. He blew the doors off the place. Our little girl was 6 at the time. She leaned to me during the show and said, "Gosh, he's really old, but he's really, really good too" What could I do but nod?
There's another artist that reactors seem to forget these and is very talented: Gil Scott-Heron "The Revolution will not be televised". His spoken word is very deep.
Whats good Satori, Al Jarreau was definitely a great. My Pop put me on to him as a young lad. That man was so gifted he did jazz, ballads and r&b. I was more attracted to his r&b and ballad hits. They give that feeling bro.
Hi!!! It’s your OG friend in Germany! I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed this pick as much as you did. Here is a little info for you, this clip was taken from German TV 1976 and I remembered it!!! Al Jarreau is from the U.S.A. but, back in the day, it was hard to sale the type of Jazz Music he was making. In the 70’s and 80’s he came a lot to Germany for Music Promotion he also has a big Fan Base in Germany. Stick with Al Jarreau music and you will learn a lot! It is good to see your back having a good time! Have a great day! 😁🎵🎶🎵🎶
Love it I was in High School when this came out. My uncle was in the band and they used to be in the garage or the living room doing this song Love It.
This is Al Jarreau. This is what he does. Bobby McFerrin has a similar style. I believe it's a combination of beat boxing, scatting and imitating the sound of certain instruments.
One of the best concerts I ever attended. The only current artist that I know of that approaches his uniqueness is Raul Midon, who I just happened to catch in concert this last summer in Cleveland OH; well worth the trip!
Initially, you weren't feelin it at all & I hoped you'd watch it to the end. 🤣 Al is DIFFERENT! Please react to After all, Were in this love together, roof garden & my favorite is boogie down. He's amazing!
My absolute favorite!! Rip
Jarreau was pure genius.

I did get to see him in concert, one of my dreams come true. My favorite song is Rooftop.....
That’s Al Jarreau! He’s amazing. 😊
He was called the human instrument.
Brings back memories I had to study Al Jarreau in my jazz vocal class.
Great teacher
Love AJ, R.I.P. 💯💗😢👍🏻
RIP Al Jarreau🙏🏾

He left you speechless
The goat. His voice is truly a musical instrument. Get into him!
AJ was definitely in his own lane. He was a great talent.
My mom listened to him a lot so I grew up with his music.
The greatest part of this is he's thinking in musical notes and it changes every performance.
Al was the modern eras make version of the great Ella Fitzgerald who brought scat singing on the map in the 50’s and 60’s. Al could sing anything and make it sound amazing, RIP the Legend

I miss Al Jarreau, he was different. Gentle soul. Try listening to "She's Leaving Home" tugs at your heart.
A couple other Al Jarreau tunes you probably should check out just to see another side of him, is his video “Morning” and “After All”.
The Master🔥
Dude's got a fire inside...won a Grammy for Jazz.
Al the vocal genius! RIP ❤

You seem to be enjoying this, great smile
I worked one of his concerts in college and interviewed him later as a reporter and he was as gracious and chill as he could be.
BTW... I caught Al in concert in 1980 at the Stanley theatre in Pittsburgh, PA.
I went to one of his shows. Al Jarreau did not disappoint 👏
I love this song. Al is so great and really knows how to use his instrument. Do more of him.
Al Jarreau could literally emulate any instrument from a flute, to a tuba.
I Love some Al Jarreau, met him at an album signing one time... very kind man!🙂

An amazing artist he was! May he rest in peace🙏🏽
Legend full stop.
The Great Al Jarred. Sketches in Spain another great song among many
I understand your complete awe. Al Jarreau was just otherworldly and so easy to love. ❤
One of my favorite singers, check out his work
he ain't no joke the man is good @satorimyg
My all time Al Jarreau favorite
He was the beginning of Hip-hop and rap
He was not the beginning of hip hop or rap! I guarantee you a white person saying this! 😂😂😂 or a youngster who have not lived through this era!
He would have hated that monotony.

And such a beautiful soul!
The master skat man
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣"You're a very patient man Satori". But it's so funny to me how your facial expression said to me.... "WTF is going on"!
REST IN PEACE AL JARREAU 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Okay that intro was cold, he went in on that smooth as hell.
Another True Legendary King. Thank you for your reactions Satori.
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Al Jarreau 🎉🎉🎉🎉
It’s also called scatting Ella Fitzgerald is the mother of scatting
I can hear Kem....you can tell Al has been studied.
Listen to 'High 'Crime'....all of it, please!
Yes you finally did it
We took our kids to go see Al a year before he passed in a small patio setting in a vineyard. Super intimate and up close. He blew the doors off the place.

Cool reaction, bro!
You can tell that Al was enjoying every moment of it and the band were also amazing.
There's another artist that reactors seem to forget these and is very talented: Gil Scott-Heron "The Revolution will not be televised". His spoken word is very deep.
I was blessed to see Al in concert in Mannheim Germany. Fabuloso!
He invented his own kind of beatboxing before beatboxing existed!
Whats good Satori, Al Jarreau was definitely a great. My Pop put me on to him as a young lad. That man was so gifted he did jazz, ballads and r&b.
I was more attracted to his r&b and ballad hits. They give that feeling bro.

He does it by being Obi damn Wan Kanobe with his ear then translates it with his voice.
Al is unique ! Don't know how he can use his voice as an instrument. Love the man that I have listened to since 1976 (have his original LP)
Al was a master his breathing technique out of this.
Love it I was in High School when this came out. My uncle was in the band and they used to be in the garage or the living room doing this song Love It.
The origins of beat boxing. Jazz scatting.
I'm crying 😂😂😂😂
You know when you get that stank face, magic is happening
That yoodle gets me everytime I have heard this.
REST TO AL JARREAU WERE IN THIS LOVE TOGETHER AFTER ALL BY HIM AND ROFF GARDEN FEATURING SHEENA EASTON AND BIGGIE DOWN ALL GOOD SONGS.
That's scat singing. A style of vocalizing through jazz. It's free style the vocals change with the cord changes. Listen to "We Got By" by Al Jarreau
Love 💕 Al seen him in concert 1984. Need to check up After All !
YES , THATS OLD SCHOOL SANGING
I saw him live some years ago. The man was a genius
He was a musical genius, but obviously as most geniuses are, he was quirky.
He has a few classics.
If I could I would recommend George Benson ...great artist!
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I got to see him in concert in 1980 it was the best show!!!!!!!!!!
You are getting it in now young man. 👍🏾🎤🎶😄
This is Al Jarreau. This is what he does. Bobby McFerrin has a similar style. I believe it's a combination of beat boxing, scatting and imitating the sound of certain instruments.
He's clapping Clave rhythm too.
Scat is part of American jazz.
One of the best concerts I ever attended. The only current artist that I know of that approaches his uniqueness is Raul Midon, who I just happened to catch in concert this last summer in Cleveland OH; well worth the trip!

Street Life { Live at Montreau} Crusaders
He and Bobby McFerrin should’ve collaborated.
We are standing on the shoulders of those that came before us.
That's just the way it is that's the style that's cool
Now there's a HUMAN sax just for you!
Now you know you practicing that when you're not on camera 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A ridiculous talent! He is greatly missed!!!!!
You know we aren't going to steer you wrong MyG
it's called "scat".
All of his music isn't quite like that one. His song " After All" is a beautiful song. Probably my favorite. He was very talented.
Al Jarreau's best song is "Mornin" in my opinion.
Al Jarreau was known for his instrumental voice .Please react to " TROUBLE IN PARADISE " by Al Jarreau
This is called Beebop from artists like Dizzy Gillespie.
This is called getting your money's worth.
At the age of 14 I was listening to this music. I wasn't very popular lol
Next you need to check the master of scat Ms Ella Fitzgerald her live version of How High the Moon. Her ability to scat and quote is the best ever
