Yes and no. It was awful in every attempt they made to correct it. They failed to see that it was a single flag ctf mode and that scoring for ship sinks, cannon ball hits, and player hits was counter to the goal. They should have been treated as tie breaker items, not primary scoring items.
Some former Comp players are making a game based off the Arena I saw on twitter the other day, it looks promising but probably won't come out until sometime next year. They state they are taking inspiration from SoT Arena.
i think if rare handled different/less popular gamemodes in the same way league of legends does and made them only available for 1 or 2 months every 6 months would be great, very limited, very hyped, very rewarding. and if u miss it, it may not come back as the next gamemode may be different
fr I miss arena it was so much fun, because of the chaos of fighting multiple ships, and having infinte playstyles and strategies going on at the same time, unlike hourglass which is a 1v1 of naval fights only.

One way they might do it is to allow players who opt into this mode is to transport players to a different server with other playdrs who opted into the event. So kind of like a dedicated pvp server Another thing the devs have been hinting at is revamping the skull of sirens song. They could make it more like a world event than a quest you have to opt into, so that more people are aware of it. On top of that the game ALREADY has pop-up plunder mechanics, and centralized turn-in location mechanics (reapers hideout/briggsy) devs could utilize, along with scoring system mechanics. The beauty of arena was that you could sink, but unlike hourglass that didnt mean you lose and had to start from square one...either way, world events and hourglass do not scratch the same itch as Arena and I know that RARE devs agree. World events can be done entirely without pvp... and Hourglas doesnt have any kind of tangible object to fight over. I think this spiritual successor update will come in maybe 3 or 4 season's time. Lastly, lore-wise there are at least 4 factions in the sea of thieves that are completely at odds with each other: Athenas fortune, the reapers bones, the sunken kingdom (sirens), and the grand Maritime Union (loosely tied to the sovereigns)... so if factions are needed, RARE already has them in abundance.
I just want them to revive the Sea Dogs faction somehow, someway. As long as there's some other kind of PvP tied to it, with the opportunity to get exclusive cosmetics this way I'm game.
I'm convinced hourglass is heading in the same direction as arena did (not going to have anything added/ changed, no new cosmetics or anything). Rare will just leave hourglass like they did with arena until eventually removing it from the game saying "it was dead"
With recent trailer (siren skull) they definitely could make 2 mods : - one based on shipfight and board. (point earned like it was in the arena and no chest) - one based on boarding/stealing/selling : each boat will spawn with emissary flag (blank emissary or reaper) you can steal other's chest by boarding or sinking them though once you stole 2 chest or more (open to discussion) the boat is being cursed (it becomes slower than the other one). And if you stole 5 (open to discussion) the boat is very very slow but in this mod you more earn point every minute (the more chest you have on board the more you earn) you can also sell them. (everything is open to discussion)
very good ideas I prefer there to be points for killing and firing cannons, because I'm not going to dig up chests in my pvp mode, although winning never mattered to us anyway, so we would act the same as before, but I understand your point and to be clear, we made only the necessary spawncamp, we sunk our ship and boarded enemy ships and used them as our own until we approached another one to board, always trying to attack the best players on the server or those with the most points And you could also kill your friends more easily it was a lot of fun They could also add different arena modes, the classic one, an hourglass type (battle royale), a tdm one, and have them play randomly
yeah i get that, to each there own. I liked arena because it was the best parts of adventure squished into 24 minutes. Yes I get digging chests up is annoying for some people, but its integral for the gamemode, that's why that last purple chest update didn't work, there wasn't any chests to be stolen. Why wouldn't you just play hourglass then and enjoy "mindless" circling around, resetting and then all over again, until one crew runs out of supplies and starts running and bo[a]r[d]ing you to death. Or TDM if you like it that way. And how are you going to decide what's "necessary spawncamp" and what's not. People are going to do what seems the most effective to them. My point is that Arena having additional "PvE" goal (let alone this PvE-PvP dichotomy people from both sides have created in their heads is just mind-boggling) provided context for unique situations like when one crew plays "PvE" you have to disengage from the current fight even if you were winning to prevent them from securing an easy win or desperate gang-bang attempts on chest's turn-in point. Hell I still member one match when some rando and I lost our ship (which meant -1k pts so we were down to zero), but took our chest on a rowy and got the win afterwards. It was an ultimate chaos and you never knew how the match would turn out eventually. That's the spice of the arena that I miss personally. Also heard some people argued that arena before rework with multiple chests being present provided even more context for unique situations and stratigic plays but unforunatly can't confirm/argue with that since I only got into it after the rework.
Bruh, I wish I saw this like an hour ago lol Only just posted about this on the forum and was essentially suggesting some of the same things, mostly the making it a limited time event. I was suggesting it as an Arena week once a year or once per season. I never actually played arena but I think the idea of the selling post moving is a great way to deter campers. I personally don't care much about cosmetics so I'm indifferent about that part. I'd prefer less cosmetics if they get more time to make the cosmetics more appealing to earn.
I got a single chance to play arena, before my Xbox broke down. I wasn’t able to get any of the exclusive cosmetics because of that. I had originally bought the game and played it only a few weeks after it came out. Really sad I didn’t get that, and I didn’t get the duke cosmetics either because they didn’t exist yet.
Meanwhile hg queues can put you underwater for 15+ minutes but the mode isn’t dying this time. Also spawn camping is fine by rares rules, you just can’t bucket/repair to force tdm forever if they won’t scuttle or disconnect.

You can put just 1 hole and then kill them 5+ times while they sink slowly without having to put more holes or ram as long as they do have damage and are sinking + you don’t repair or bucket their ship to force additional fighting during that time. Rare has made statements about this in the past very clearly that it’s only spawn camping if you have no desire to sink them. There is no “He is taking on water but I killed him 5 times so I now have to get off their ship and put additional holes in them before I can fight close range again”. I’m 5000+hour brave vanguard, if I had to keep putting more holes in them every 5 kills, i’d have been banned years ago. That would be a ridiculous rule.. 1 hole is enough for the entire sinking if you want, just don’t bucket them or let them bucket on purpose. If they’re bucketing that 1 hole enough to stay a float and it’s drawing out the fight indefinitely, THEN you’d need to give them more damage. I stream/record my gameplay every day just incase someone wants to make false accusations though. I had a very nice and detailed conversation with the community manager Badger about this last year and I know 100% what their guidelines are for what is and isn’t a spawn camp.

I have over 3000 hours too and got yellow bearded once, only cause my name was visible in the in-gamechat of a streamer that was getting camped. After requesting an unban they told me that I am in the right but I should sit out my ban, upon further request they threatened me with a perm ban. Friend of mine got perm banned for toxicity while killing a streamer 6 times on a fort and saying not really after the streamer said ggs. The fact that u have to permanently stream ur entire gameplay just to avoid bans says it all😂
You know, in xbox acievements, only 3.5% of players have a win, bet only around 5% of players play arena, and that's probably generous, bet arena could've been way more popular if they actually worked on it, and the fact that this is Rare's first and only live service game is shown here, like you don't see epic games remiving a gamemode or like, team rumble from fortnite because it's not where a majority of the playerbase is, when a gamemode isn't doing well you fix it, not scrap it, like they could've easily added arena events or challenges, and for them to announce the shutdown, see the community's reaction to it, and still go through with it? And see people's current opinions about how Arena was way better, or at least the style of it and do nothing? It's a damn shame, all of it, especially with how much they "listen to the community", like make it a freaking separate game or something if it puts stress on the main game, you get rewards for playing insiders and it's a completely separate asset

Arena was a single flag ctf mode that was scored improperly. If it is ever brought back they need to get rid of scoring for ship hits in place of time holding the chest. This hold time would have to be limited to all players in the match. The max total score for the hold time should be roughly equal to the turn in but require being held well longer than what it would take to turn it in immediately. The reason it did so poorly was because the spring encouraged spawn camping. Towards the end they put a delay on how soon you could get on another player's ship. Another solution would be to space everyone out evenly around the arena and give them all full wind until the first person hits the chest with a shovel. Then the wind would switch to normal single direction mode. They should also take a lesson from the new event voyage that's coming out and make the chests add effects to the ship. It could add a slow effect, make players on the ship drunk, act like a ballast ball, have a barrel ball effect within a certain radius, etc. It could even randomize the effects over time making adding difficulty to being the one carrying it.
Btw. If you want to get all the achievements in sea of thieves. There are achievements dedicated to the arena. Which now does exist? So either those achievements gotta go or arena gotta come back
Honestly, I didnt even played arena once. But I just love pvp and hourglass is ok, but its not really the chaos and fight skills. Im just watching arena tournaments, arena videos and even in the toxic sc records, I think its so enjoyable at the time. I think it will be so good if its gonna come back.
Not just Arena. They should add 6+ new game modes. like 2v2, or gally vs 3sloops... have a mode where all the ships are on rails.. add fishermen or merchant cargo ships with no cannons.. 6 new ship types including surfboards and viking longboats with tons of oars, just make them rare. They also need something where you can queue HG/Arena *against people who are not currently queued.* It's so obvious. No one wants to join a queue full of undefeated people. Instead you'd schedule matches, and/or have an alert when matches are available for you, even outside of game. Like unofficial ladder matches for old FPS games
It's sooo simple to fix queue times, it's a non-issue... it's like a chicken and egg problem, you want to play, but you can't play because nobody else is playing... so you have 80% of the people who want to play, just not playing... here's the fix: just add yourself to a waiting list, agree on a time to meet every day/week, like 8pm EST. Easy peasy, issue solved, I did the same thing for BF2142 revive and it worked, 100% full server Long wait times (like HG underwater) also just make no sense... like, just don't enable diving until AFTER you've reserved a spot, so the queue is instant every time. Easy stuff
If this could work I’d love it! Sadly I don’t think servers could handle something like this. If they were to add it, it would have to be at random, like you load into arena and it randomly picks a game mode each round. Otherwise any other way would drastically increase queue times.

Yeah. When it was taken down I had been playing for a couple years but I wasn’t ready to start trying for legendary sea dog. These days I would be ON IT. It’s to bad but I will say rare has better not being back those legendary sea dog cosmetics without bringing back arena or something pretty much the same. They have a history of that stuff but I don’t think that they would go that far. The idea is good especially the silver being a currency. I just disagree with multiple ship types.
As a console player I can say is extremely underwhelming they closed Arena when I was about to get started with it. I wasn’t able of playing it at it’s full potential because at the time I only had an Xbox One S and loading screen times where absurd, plus me being horrendous at PvP make me not playing the game mode more than a couple of times. That and me not being able getting a Series X since they released during Covid and resellers made it impossible to get one. So by the time I got my Series X it was early January 2022 and Arena was about to close which is a disappointment since I love SoT’s PvP besides all of it’s flaws, I’m not the best at it but I have both Skeleton and Ghost curses in HG (which is an other thing Rare needs to urgently update) and even though HG has shown me how to get better at PvP I really wanted to experience the Arena at its best
queue times were not the problem queue times died because nobody wanted to play the game cause they stopped updating it and left it to die only the dedicated stayed if they updated it besides the one time and add more of a reason to play it could of been good or just make it a battle royale
Please make another video on this, but emphasize why Arena is miles better than HG ever could be and why now is the perfect time to bring it back, considering the player count in SoT is getting dangerously low. Hourglass doesn't you practice multi-ship combat on demand, It doesn't give players the same starting supps, players spend their time chasing runners more than actually battling, the list goes on. We need a video on why the current system is not beneficial for new players, or even veteran players, and why Arena with actual updates and attention is the best way to keep people playing SoT. I get so aggravated trying to convince new players that it's a good game, because they wanna learn PVP, but just hate how terrible HG is for learning. No one wants to spend all this time collecting supps and dive to then get bonked instantly and have to repeat the cycle. At least in Arena you could chat with the players that just bonked you and get some pointers from them. Granted the lobbies could be very toxic, but hey that's video games.
ill return when they bring back arena! how can we hone our skills and improve on pvp without a competitive pvp setting! I dont have time to learn pvp on the seas and get shit on when i do encounter aggressive toxic players! the amount of clutch moves i pulled when playing arena helped so much on the seas!
yeah that's understandable. That was the statistic given out by a rare employee. It's a bit fudged but that doesn't change the fact that such a insignificant amount of players actually participated in arena on a regular basis.

No it is not, talking from experience, killing someone over 5 times without canning or raming them can already result in a ban

For me anything that makes me leave game to swap a mode is a pain. A hourglass Que for Arena on the boat would have probably helped the mode more.

They should also take a lesson from the new event voyage that's coming out and make the chests add effects to the ship. It could add a slow effect, make players on the ship drunk, act like a ballast ball, have a barrel ball effect within a certain radius, etc. It could even randomize the effects over time making adding difficulty to being the one carrying it.
Btw. If you want to get all the achievements in sea of thieves. There are achievements dedicated to the arena. Which now does exist? So either those achievements gotta go or arena gotta come back

Honestly, I didnt even played arena once. But I just love pvp and hourglass is ok, but its not really the chaos and fight skills. Im just watching arena tournaments, arena videos and even in the toxic sc records, I think its so enjoyable at the time. I think it will be so good if its gonna come back.
Not just Arena. They should add 6+ new game modes. like 2v2, or gally vs 3sloops... have a mode where all the ships are on rails.. add fishermen or merchant cargo ships with no cannons.. 6 new ship types including surfboards and viking longboats with tons of oars, just make them rare.
They also need something where you can queue HG/Arena *against people who are not currently queued.* It's so obvious. No one wants to join a queue full of undefeated people. Instead you'd schedule matches, and/or have an alert when matches are available for you, even outside of game. Like unofficial ladder matches for old FPS games
It's sooo simple to fix queue times, it's a non-issue... it's like a chicken and egg problem, you want to play, but you can't play because nobody else is playing... so you have 80% of the people who want to play, just not playing... here's the fix: just add yourself to a waiting list, agree on a time to meet every day/week, like 8pm EST. Easy peasy, issue solved, I did the same thing for BF2142 revive and it worked, 100% full server
Long wait times (like HG underwater) also just make no sense... like, just don't enable diving until AFTER you've reserved a spot, so the queue is instant every time. Easy stuff
Multiple game modes like battle royale, single ship size, multiple ship size, capture the flag, 3v3, 2v2
Also have time limited arenas that don’t exist in the main game but give a commendation for wins in that arena
If this could work I’d love it! Sadly I don’t think servers could handle something like this. If they were to add it, it would have to be at random, like you load into arena and it randomly picks a game mode each round. Otherwise any other way would drastically increase queue times.

it only took you 10 to 15 min if you where unlucky if i was really really lucky it would take that long normaly it took around me like 45 mins.

Yeah. When it was taken down I had been playing for a couple years but I wasn’t ready to start trying for legendary sea dog. These days I would be ON IT. It’s to bad but I will say rare has better not being back those legendary sea dog cosmetics without bringing back arena or something pretty much the same. They have a history of that stuff but I don’t think that they would go that far. The idea is good especially the silver being a currency. I just disagree with multiple ship types.
As a console player I can say is extremely underwhelming they closed Arena when I was about to get started with it. I wasn’t able of playing it at it’s full potential because at the time I only had an Xbox One S and loading screen times where absurd, plus me being horrendous at PvP make me not playing the game mode more than a couple of times. That and me not being able getting a Series X since they released during Covid and resellers made it impossible to get one. So by the time I got my Series X it was early January 2022 and Arena was about to close which is a disappointment since I love SoT’s PvP besides all of it’s flaws, I’m not the best at it but I have both Skeleton and Ghost curses in HG (which is an other thing Rare needs to urgently update) and even though HG has shown me how to get better at PvP I really wanted to experience the Arena at its best
queue times were not the problem queue times died because nobody wanted to play the game cause they stopped updating it and left it to die only the dedicated stayed if they updated it besides the one time and add more of a reason to play it could of been good or just make it a battle royale
I think in general just adding new content would have brought players back.

Please make another video on this, but emphasize why Arena is miles better than HG ever could be and why now is the perfect time to bring it back, considering the player count in SoT is getting dangerously low.
Hourglass doesn't you practice multi-ship combat on demand, It doesn't give players the same starting supps, players spend their time chasing runners more than actually battling, the list goes on.
We need a video on why the current system is not beneficial for new players, or even veteran players, and why Arena with actual updates and attention is the best way to keep people playing SoT.
I get so aggravated trying to convince new players that it's a good game, because they wanna learn PVP, but just hate how terrible HG is for learning. No one wants to spend all this time collecting supps and dive to then get bonked instantly and have to repeat the cycle. At least in Arena you could chat with the players that just bonked you and get some pointers from them. Granted the lobbies could be very toxic, but hey that's video games.
