Store Evacuation and $515 Self-Checkout at Walmart ║ Large Family Shop with Me │ Jan. 2019

- In this video, Tom and I are going on our monthly date night / Walmart shopping trip. We ate at Old Chicago and then stopped by Home Depot to get some PVC pipe to make some rails for Hannah's new bottom bunk so we can use it for a crib. Then we were going to stop at Joann's to get some fabric for the rails, but the store had already closed. Thankfully, I was able to find some workable fabric at Walmart. While we were shopping at Walmart, we noticed the smell of gas while we were looking at some baskets. By the time we got to the fabric department, the smell was getting quite strong. Apparently, there was a gas leak and the store was evacuated. We waited in the van while the fire department came and checked everything out. Once they gave the all clear, we went back in and retrieved our cart and resumed shopping. As you can imagine, the employees were in a bit of chaos trying to deal with all of the abandoned carts and do a shift change at the same time. We had a hard time getting someone to cut fabric and then it was quite an ordeal for the lady to get a working scan gun to finish our fabric order. In all, about 90 minutes passed from when I first started looking at the fabric and when I walked away with the cut pieces. Not what I imagined would happen! We finished our shopping and then went to check out. It seems quite a few employees were "sick" and left during the evacuation and there was only one checkout clerk in the store. We had to check out our whole $515 worth of items in self-checkout. It all got done, though, and our 3 1/2 hours at Walmart came to an end. (I ordered about $400 worth of stuff on-line before our trip to the store to free up some cart space and mental space for some of the creative shopping I needed to do.) When we got home after midnight, most of the kids were still up waiting for us so they all pitched in to carry things in from the van.

I took Andrea's channel for granted. I focused watching other things thinking she would always be there and I can watch her later... We take time for granted. Had I known I would have watched more and left positive comments to outweigh the bad.

that’s so sweet how you opened up like that to us and let the camera roll, you could feel and hear the emotions, you didn’t have to show that at all. i couldn’t even be calm the way you are 😂 get home from doing all that and have everyone yelling “mum” id jut scream so i admire how calm you are in that situation 👏🏼
Well now that was a shopping trip to remember. Fire truck, self checking and then Tom getting everything to the car in his " own clever way" . So sweet to watch Tom love on his "baby girls".
It's so bittersweet to see the little kids run to their Mama for a hug. 💖😢 I can't imagine losing a mom as a kid.
When you grabbed the thing off the shelf and it all started falling I totally heard my husband say this is why we can't have nice things..😂😂😂 He jokes and we get a laugh out of it.

Watching these videos I am amazed and happy that you "live life" as it happens, little ones and all. Meaning sure it's midnight, shopping trip is just finishing but you are being a family , enjoying each other and tomorrow you can sleep if you need it.

It was so sweet to see the kids so helpful so late at night. I wasn't as surprised that they stayed up late since that's often exciting for kids, but I was impressed that they were so positive and hard working even though they must have been tired :).
Being in the medical field, I have watched some of the videos and do agree they missed something. Such a sweet soul, Andrea is. Keep up the good work dad. Your doing a awesome job. There are things we could have done differently in some situations. It’s still a loss. I deal with the loss of my son every day. So much I could have done differently. But nonetheless it still hurts. I always enjoy your Walmart shopping trips! Every time I see Hamnah she has grown so much! She has such a pretty smile and looked adorable in her hat! So glad the gas leak in the Walmart was not more serious and that you were able to go back in and finish your shopping. You had so many helping hands at home which is wonderful.
I can totally relate with Daddy pushing the cart with the belly...one trip to the car no matter how I get there!

I loved this entire video but Tom's remark about the "slutty" chocolates made my day. 😂 & y'all are straight troopers checking yourselves out with all your items. I have a temporary panic attack if I have more than 10 things to self checkout.

Curver brand baskets are the absolute best. Sadly here in Canada they are few and far between. Whenever I come upon them in a home store, I jump for joy & have an audience of onlookers wondering what the crazy lady is so happy about. I love self check out because I can bag my purchases accordingly. Another wonderfully hilarious video, Tom!

Hannah is a beautiful baby with a gorgeous smile. She sure enjoyed sitting up in the shopping cart checking out the scenery!
Walmart can tell you what they want - they would like nothing more than to have us all doing self check-out & our own bagging after spending hours shopping. Many in Canada refuse to do it as we are trying to save jobs. They will call another cashier for large orders. There are other employees working in the store who can also work as cashiers.
I will say one things that you got to pack your bags exactly as you wanted them making it easier to unload & put away!

I always get a kick out of Tom's shopping "antics". Carrying two heavy loads on his shoulders while pushing the cart too. :)
😍These are wonderful to look back on, but I always wonder why the vehicle was never brought to the entrance/exit especially when the weather was less than favorable or even when it is sooo late at night when it wouldn't be a bother/inconvenience to others🤔

I stack my cart exactly like Tom! Every square inch of the cart is methodically used. I use an electric wheelchair so I cannot use2 carts my foot plates snug under the front low bar, so the chair takes full control of steering and pushing my cart. My service dog gets items off the lower shelves. My seat elevation assists me in reaching the upper shelves.
Your kids are so cute and helpful. It's wonderful to see and go home with your family. :)

I love self check out. I can organize what goes where in my house at the checkout. Once home my million kids runout to the us and I can tell them exactly where each bag goes...deep freezer,upright freezer, kitchen, fridge, pantry,etc.

Thanks so much for sharing. I love Walmart. I hate self check out and our Walmart is almost all self check out. I drive 25 miles away and do grocery pick up to avoid checking myself out but sometimes you have got to do what you’ve got to do. Awesome video. Hannah is so cute. I think they said that someone hit something with one of the forklifts in the back of the store when they were moving stuff around to stock everything.
Your self checkouts are so much better than ours in the UK! you literally have to scan one item at a time and it doesnt let you scan another until said item is in the bag because they count the weight of each item! so it literally takes ages just to scan like 10 items. and the whole way through it needs assistance because items are underweight or the price is wrong haha
When they first put in self-checkouts here, it was the same way. They constantly had errors that the weight didn't match and it took forever. Now that they've changed them, it much faster and easier.
I hope England do the same soon! So frustrating haha
