After months of reading conflicting reports about how to secure drywall edge next to wood, FINALLY you have my answer!! SeeJanDrill does it again. Thank you.
Thank you exactly what I needed. This channel is one of the few that provides a perfect amount of detail needed.
I've been doing drywall for years, but forgot about this stuff. Great video.
Wow, I do drywall repairs at work and never heard of J Bead. Not sure if I'll have to ever use it, but now I know what to use if I ever have to do this.. Thanks!
Hi Beo, thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful!
Just wanted to say that I love your videos. I think you have a knack for instruction.
Do you suppose I could use this on cement board too? Putting that up in the whole basement instead of drywall. I have one cedar wall that will meet the cement board in both corners.
That's a great idea for my backsplash ending.
Woohoo... learned 2 things today thank you as I was staring down that metal thingy I came to UA-cam and found this THANK YOU !!! Now off to finishing that task I have been avoiding !!
you are an angel, been looking for this answer for about an hour, thankyou!!
Tear away bead is best used in this situation it's flush and can be painted. J-trim is best used for tucking wallpaper. If you mud this metal strip it will crack because there is no mud behind it use tear away
I keep seeing videos for this but can't find it in my local big box stores.
What if you already hung the drywall. And there's a gap between the drywall and the wood wall.
thinking of installing a jbead in a indoor garage. From the floor I have 4' concrete walls, followed by about 8' of dry-wall. Would the jbead fit this application?
nice way to mate two different surfaces and have a clean look thank you Leah for the tip
Thank you, Ken!
Another great video - really appreciate your detailed videos. You never assume that the viewers know something - you (graciously) take the time to clearly explain. Thanks!
+Walker Stevenson you're welcome, Walker, and thanks!
I have a question, where you apply the J-Bead, do you still take screws to mount the drywall to the studs?
Great presentation. Straight to the point and issues.
I might have missed it in the video but, how do you get it to stick to the brick wall?.
How much was the 10ft metal J Bend? I would love to have this as a bottom drywall floor trim in my new construction home for a clean modern look. Do you think this would be cheaper than adding regular base boards?
the metal will look good..but trim-tex offer a tear away L bead that will give you that modern look....making your walls look like the house was sat on top of the wood or tile floor... i just finished doing my house ....
How do you install j bead on closet please?
Great video. What do you recommend where drywall meets an irregular brick wall? Not in a corner but side by side. There are some gaps in places up to 1/2 an inch that I would like to fill in.
I would still use the j-bead. You may want to consider using a water based caulk for the gaps created and then take a damp paint brush and brush away residual caulk from the joint. I would in addition, tape off the joint prior to caulking, to diminish the amount of surface caulk.
seejanedrill thank you
What about up against a bathtub and pre-made shower surround? Great videos and teaching style!
I just used this going up to my new tub and surround. I didn’t mud it, just caulked it and will be painting. I think it’ll look ok after painting.
Tear away bead is better for these transitions for aesthetics if the drywall is already installed ( but would need a little joint compound) , but J bead is ok too if drywall hasn’t been hung up yet 👍
What if it has been hung and tare away isn’t available to buy?
Superb video, very helpful! Thank you for posting this, helped me out on a little project i have going on here.
Lady you are my new hero
Thank you
Great video Jane! Answered the exact question I had.
Just what I was looking for!
Love your videos! I'm trying to find out how to drywall around a window. Had to remove water-damaged paneling on a wall and replace it with drywall. There's a window there and I'm not sure how to finish it off. I'm confused what edging to use. Any "how to's" on something like that?
Millicent, What exactly is the issue and I'll try to help.
Thank you so much for responding! I went down to the despot and found out how to do a window return. They said for what I want to do, I should put drywall strips in the opening and cut them off flush with the wall, making sure they are not abutted up to the window because there will be caulking between the raw edge of the drywall strip and the metal window. This is where I was confused. I thought perhaps a J channel would enclose that raw edge.
Then, I would use 90º drywall corner and go around the window with that to get my smooth edge. I got the meshy-looking plastic corners and I'm not sure how to attach them...so any advice on that would be appreciated!
Very cool! Is there a similar product that can be installed after the drywall is up? We have an unfinished edge where some drywall meets the brick and would like to achieve a similar look! :)
You may be able to snip the j-bead down its length and create an L shape bead. You could then slip one edge between the brick and the drywall and the remaining edge would be exposed to mud over. Hope this helps
I was thinking the same thing and I think Jane’s idea is a brilliant one especially when it’s fastened On already to the studs. But would you have to stick it down before you mud it as it’s placed over drywall screws in the corner?Great stuff!
Very helpful and clearly explained. ty
What about the tear away bead?
how about when the dry wall stops on an external corner and you have a gap between the board and the wall
whatever
Thanks for the explanation! You really cleared up what seemed like a mystery ...
+K Singh you're welcome, glad it was helpful!
A better way for a seamless transition is to use tape-on L-Bead. J-Bead is typically use primarily in skylights.
Love these videos
Can you paint over this piece?
great video. looks perfect
Thank you.
Excellent. Thank you Jane.
My pleasure
Thiink these would work well for a drywall access panel?
It could, but why not just buy an access panel? They are pretty cheap.
I want to to look as seemless as possible haven't looked at any of the aces panels yet
Thanks Jane. Very helpful.
+Mike Eichner you're welcome, Mike!
Thanks again for a great video!
you're very welcome!
Good options to putty or straight paint
Thanks, Carlos!
Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for the video

Good video thank you
+Heath Wood Thanks, Heath, that is very nice of you to say!! :)
Nice cutting tool ...yikes keep them in the house and not in the woods at night
nice job
ANGEL paul thanks!
👍👍👍
Woodprix is nice for that.
👷🏿♂️
Can't believe a video was needed for this. lol.
Well Jake, not every DIY-er is aware of the different material options available when installing drywall.
we just had some work done where this was used and I hadn't seen it before, wasn't sure if I should use mud before painting or what, now I know I probably shouldn't as there's a door nearby.. thanks for the vid
These videos are not for pro's. They are for people at home with a simple project they dont know is so simple yet. The fact you are hear pretending to be a pro and being a tool is quite telling. You came here looking for something. I think you needed the lesson.
Hey, this video answered the exact question I had about what to do when a cut piece of drywall will butt up against a ceramic block wall. Now I know to buy some J-bead.
