Actually, Budo is a combative form of sport. Seeking the perfection of technique is found in every olympic sport you can think of. That journey will enlighten you from inside. That's the perfection of character for you. I think, the right question would have been: Is Karate a sport or BuJUTSU? Unfortunately, even within JKA dojos, Karate is taught merely as an endurance sport with no real applicability on the street: countless Kihon repetitions, even in black belt classes, with neglected Bunkai practice. Karate without Bunkai is mere gymnastics.

The fact that Asai, Yahara (or whoever) distance themselves from JKA and "say that their Karate is bujutsu" means absolutely nothing, except that there are a lot of politics as far as organizations are concerned.
Karate is budo no doubt about that...we don't shake hands and feet in the dojo for fun .... but yes we often sitting far from honbu dojo develop our own ways of generating kime ... karate is not a sport but well sport concept attracted many into this thus we often choose to remain silent ... karate is budo .....

Why? This was probably her first lesson. Why waste a perfectly good brand new keikogi on someone's very first lesson, who may decide to not go back.
