Wado gets a bad rap in the States. It’s all over the South East, but I’ve never met a black belt in it who could explain the applications out of the forms. The only ones I met who could fight were usually in the kick boxing program.
Which forms are you reffering to? A lot of wado schools don’t train bunkai, so it wouldn’t be that weird if the application other than just the punch or just the technique is not known by the practitioner. For the fighting part... most of my experience is from kickboxing and not from kumite karate. So I have to agree. But wado actually improved my kickboxing!

There are good and bad teachers in all arts.
