  • In this sample lesson from Andy Hall (andyhalldobro.com) breaks down how to wear the Dobro picks when playing. When you put the picks on, you want to make sure the picks go on snugly with a little bit of the tip coming out. Andy Hall himself uses the Pro picks. The picks can first take some time to get used to, but Andy Hall finds the Pro picks bring the most comfort him.
Additionally, he discusses the dobro instrument. His instrument, the Meredith Eclipse, is made out of all solid maple, which is one of the premier tone woods for a dobro, due to the sustained, ringy, and brightness in sound it produces. Dobros also come in other kinds of wood.
Andy Hall graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA with a degree in Music Production and Engineering. While originally an electric guitarist, Andy was immediately drawn to the unique and interesting sound of the resonator guitar when he first heard one almost 20 years ago. He has since gone on to play dobro in the studio and on stage with Dolly Parton, Earl Scruggs, Emmylou Harris, Lee Greenwood, Zack Brown, Charlie Daniels, Rodney Crowell and many others.
The Online Dobro School with Andy Hall starts with beginner Dobro lessons on how to hold the Dobro and what kinds of picks and steels to use. Then the Dobro lessons progress through beginning licks and move all the way up to advanced Dobro slide technique.
