The drum, our tool of remembrance.
We not only hold a drum, we hold all that it represents.
It is the echo of the first sound we ever hear,
The pulse of our mother’s blood pulsing through her arteries while we were fetuses in the womb.
Our first home, our time of oneness with our mother.
Grateful for drum sisters playing and carrying the drum with love and devotion. I couldn’t help but sing along spontaneously to the drumming of the wonderful Chun-Mui Miller
What a joy to bee on this rhythm journey together.
    Bless this path.
We’ve been diving into rhythms of six.
    Slow meditative sixes.
Thinking of the 6 sided honeycomb, the hive and the bees.
We have much to learn from them.
They are considered a super organism where each bee can be as if a cell within one body.
Each a part of the whole working together for the good of the hive to thrive.
The other connection to bees and drumming is that many of the ancient women frame drummers were priestesses called Melissa which means honey or bee in Greek.
It was a title. They were in service to the mother goddess in ancient times.
They held all life as sacred.
My teacher Layne Redmond collected thousands of images of ancient women frame drummers and put many of them in her book “ When the Drummers Were Women and Spiritual History of Rhythm
