Great message! I was already stage 4 by the time I found you guys, but the info I got from Jen's website helped me reduce the load on my kidneys & stay off dialysis for 3 years. My doctor was flabbergasted.......he doesn't even have a dietitian on staff. Sadly, a bout with covid finished me off & I am now on dialysis, but I am still much healthier than some others in the same boat, because I learned the skill of "eating to my labs" & using plant-based diet to reduce the burden on my kidneys. I had the pleasure of introducing 2 dialysis dietitians to the Cronometer app.....you should have seen the wide eyes....💜💜💜
They say that Kidney Failure has no symptoms - I noted some to look for when I was at Stage 4 Failure.
1. Extreme fatigue - mine happened when I had a shift change so I misread this one
2. Sensitivity to heat/sun - I grew up in the South and fought in the desert. I can handle the heat. I noticed this right away and thought it was odd.
3. Burping or a "vomit-like" muscle reflex with no product being expelled - I could not figure this out but it happened every day until I was diagnosed/treated.
4. Some kidney bladder water retention - I usually listen to my body and know when I am dehydrated. On a couple of occasions I noted that I had drank 60 ounces of water and had no need to void and I wasnt uncomfortable at all. At other times my urination was very normal.
I am not diabetic or really a kidney patient - my kidney failure was a result of medications being overprescribed for an ear infection/vertigo - I see my self as healthy and fit, so my experience may not match yours - but I sure do empathize with all of you and wish you the best! Oh BTW- steroid treatments cured me -interstitial kidney nephritis. Glad its over.
6 months ago my EGFR came back as 59.1 for the first time. I got scared. They wanted me back in 6 months to see how things were going. In that six months I went from a weight of 217 to 175. I watched my sodium, sugar, and cholesterol. Cut out most processed foods and sugars and prayed real hard. I'm only 38. A couple days ago I got my blood work back. My cholesterol went from 230 to 188. My resting glucose went from 113 to 96. My EGFR went from that 59.1 to 84! I was hoping to bring it back up to what it was a couple years ago (74) I didn't dare hope it would go higher! I obviously don't have CKD but had I stayed on the path I was on...I might have had it. I was not following a healthy diet at all. I'm still trying to lose a bit more weight. Oh and I drink water now. I wasn't good at that at all before.
Fantastic video!!!
Thanks

@@nicm3155 Thank you very much
It’s a nightmare ..lady talks about high carb diet…… Dr Berg says low carb……
It is a balancing act....but don't despair. If you listen again, you'll hear both Jen & the other lady say the higher carb diet was right FOR HER. She wasn't eating enough carbs, or salt, etc. Everyone has different balance needs, since kidneys don't fail evenly across the board. In the course, they are trying to educate you so you can find the right balance for you. They will personalize for your case, so you can go forward on your own. Dr. Berg gives alot of general advice & I found it wasn't useful to me. Good Luck on your journey!
I just found out I have stage 4 chronic kidney disease and I’m mad that my doctor didn’t tell me when I was stage 2 or 3! He put me on the Keto diet and I lost 50 lbs. but I will gain like crazy if I eat carbs and then the blood sugar goes up.
@@judymurray191 If your fasting blood glucose on >100 you should avoid carbo.
@@judymurray191 I had to lower my insulin and add more carbs as protein is limited in some stages of ckd. Good 🤞 luck.
Yeah and she's charging almost $700 for the course what a rip off seriously you should be doing it for the caring of others
I'm sure you get paid for the work you do, your doctor gets paid for the work they do, and renal dietitians deserve to get paid for the work they do (it is their career). I'm thankful that she and others volunteer their time to come here on UA-cam and share tips, knowledge, and support. You can also check with your personal dietitian to see what they offer and how much they charge; perhaps your dietitian has a program that is more in line with your budget.
@@DADVICETV dude I'm not saying she shouldn't get paid but $700 is way excessive for someone that's sick and in a fixed income that's all that I'm saying.
@@ryulee458 So let's just listen more to this channel and if u benefited in a good way, u then show appreciation in your own way. They are professionals and we should be thankful that they are giving good advice. And we did not pay for it yet😁
