    • My 2 Secret to Increas...
if you're noticing that the stems are yellowing just before the blossom drops off.
That's a somewhat common problem on tomatoes, and it occurs because the flower hasn't been pollinated. Since the flower is not going to turn into a fruit, the plant just aborts it.
In cases where the plant is already producing an excess of fruits, some flowers may abort like this as a way for the plant to naturally thin itself.
Blossom drop is usually worst when the weather gets really hot. Tomato pollen isn't viable when daytime heat hits the 90s.
There's really not much you can do about that cause, other than wait for the heat wave to pass and for new flowers to pollinate themselves.
The same thing can happen during cold snaps. When nighttime lows go much below 50, tomatoes also don't pollinate well.
it might be a lack of nitrogen. Poor soil nutrition is another thing that can cause blossoms to drop.
Nutrients leach out of containers much faster than in-ground plantings, which means the soil is more dependent on you to supply what potted plants need.
If you haven't fertilized lately, try giving your tomatoes a dose of a balanced plant food - something like 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 - or if you're organic-leaning, a dose of fish emulsion or a granular fertilizer such as Espoma's Tomato-tone or Greenview's GreenSmart Tomato and Vegetable Food. Then repeat with a half-strength dose of those every 2 weeks through the season.
Something else you might try in the meantime - become your own pollinator.
Tomato flowers normally pollinate themselves with the aid of wind or insects that knock pollen from the stamen (male part) to the pistil (female part).
Lack of wind or lack of pollinating bees and other insects can contribute to blossom drop, so gently shaking your plants may help distribute the pollen. Gently dabbing the flowers also can help.

Thank you for your video! Yes it is definitely because of the high temperatures( 100 - 115 degrees )all summer, I live in South Texas. Most of my tomatoes did not produce at all because of this. I shall try again next year ~ 🍃✨🍃

Nice video. I had the same problem this year. All of my plants dropped 50% of their blossoms. I tried manual pollination, but I think it was too late in the season for that to be effective.

We've had some cold Temps so far this season. We planted a little late since it was cold. N since then, just last week for example, Temps dropped to 50s. It's gotten down to that temp several times so far. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Thank you for the information. All of my tomatoes are flowing... all but two. I most likely is the 50 degree night temperatures . The variety may be more sensitive.

My first time growing on my patio and it is 90 to 100 and most of the blossoms drop off. I have gotten a few though. I have friend's who grow in their backyards and have huge amounts of tomatoes. So I am not sure what the secret is.

Thanks for posting on my birthday it was a good one. As for the tomatoes I did have the problem of blooms falling off but now it has no blooms showing just a large green leafy heirloom 8'-9' tall no disease looks like the healthiness plants I have. I live in zone 7b and we do have the heat and humidity now until mid to late Sept. Do I just need to wait?

I belive once the temperatures drop below 90f they will start to produce flowers.... but in my experience they never stop producing flowers... flowers were always produced but then they drop during high temperatures.... i belive in the mean time you could try to fertilize with high phosphorus and low nitrogen fertilizer that should help produce flowers.... hope this will help....

I live in 30 Celsius, Philippines, with many localized thunderstorms...I placed our tomato plants up against the wall of our place where they get direct sunlight but after a thunderstorm a few days ago some of the blossoms fell off. It could also be pollination but we had tomatoes grow there before. The plants are about 5 to 6 feet in 12" square pots. We don't have many blossoms, like 10 max and less. What do you think. We are trying your bee trick or should I move them which is not easy.. Daniel

I understand deficiencies or abundances of minerals can cause blossom drop, but what could cause 1 plant out of 4 in the same large pot to suffer from blossom drop? They’re all about 6’ tall with great foliage growth and flower stems. However, just 1 will not grow tomatoes. The flowers seem healthy and normal when they first blossom, but soon after they die and drop. I’m at a loss.

It starts almost every time after you have your first tomatos. Also with the cucumbers. I think its because they have not enough food . Dont give your plants to much water in the begining, then they make not enough roots and so the plant cant get enoug food when the tomatos are there. It is just a though. Grtz from Belgium.

You want to deep water or bottom water. Make the roots spread for that water

Hmm.. hope fully as the tempreture drops below 90 it will start setting fruits... ours has already started....
For tomatoes to be pollinated pollen has to be dry when tempreture hits above 90F is that pollen becomes sticky and is no longer good for pollination... hope this helped!
