It is called a P-38. I opened many cans when out in the field in Grafenwoehr or Baumholder. I was stationerd in Bamberg GMBH. I wonder if anyone has ever heard of it ? Does anyone k ow what “the wall” in Nuremberg is ?

I've known them since childhood. Dad was USMC vet and he kept a "camping kit" ready packed. It included a regular can opener but also a P38.
Dad passed earlier this year. Going through his things, he had a bunch of old P38s in a box, older than the one I had but sturdier.
I work for a traveling healthcare agency. You never know what a given facility will offer in the way of utensils/dishes/drinking vessels. Plus, I hate waste. I have compiled my own kit with a large microwave friendly mug, Outlery kit of cutlery (spoon, fork, butter knife and chopsticks with screw in handles) and a P38. I was happy to update my opener with one that was better quality and fond memories as well. I'm never caught short.

The P51 larger at 2 inches. P51 is the Big brother of the P-38. "U.S. Shelby Co. P-51 can openers. Handle is 2" long and has a hinged blade. The added length affords more leverage and doesn't require as much thumb pressure to use. The P-38 is a shorter version of this."

They are all usually very cheap in price, but I've never had one bend. I bought a 5 pack for around $6-7
