Perhaps you could offer two options for prior backers like myself. I think you’re right, there’s a lot of updates here that would make me consider buying the new edition (which I do think you should rename “Redux”, “Definitive Edition”, or “Essential Edition.) but there is the risk I’ve got a 1.0 I can’t sell. Maybe you could offer a $20 (or maybe half of your profit margin?) discount for those who can send you a picture of their original copy (I myself backed through my FLGS so idk if you’d count that). It’s a way to say thank for backing the original without necessarily needing everyone to get the upgrades. As far as the upgrade kit, I would absolutely prefer the cards to match format with the original.
I mean, if the change in the card format and icon locations is considered a major, important upgrade, then it would be weird to me if it wasn’t included in the upgrade pack. At that point, you’re not REALLY getting 1.5, you’re just getting some of it. I’d be happy to pay extra if it means ending up with the same 1.5 experience that new buyers are gonna get.
I agree that adding a lot of changes will add a lot of work. Also I think the more you change for 1.5, the more it may tend to irritate original backers who are missing out. It would seem better to make an expansions or sequel that would add those changes instead. Where returning backers are getting more legitimate content added for the game and it makes more sense for them to buy it, rather than spending money on a remake. Looking at what Cephalofair did with Gloomhaven, where they came out with JOTL, then reworked a lot of stuff and came out with Frosthaven, and only then did they finally remake Gloomhaven into 2.0. So in that light it isn't as bad, since they made a lot of content for the original, it is still out there, and 2.0 is really for newer players. EDIT: Also want to note, mismatched cards is going to be a big problem for a lot of returning backers. I don't think anyone wants to have completely different looking cards.
I was an instant-buy on the original Kickstarter, and have loved playing the game! I am absolutely STOKED for the update, and a big thanks to the OOS team!!
