I remember driving my bosses 505 on my first day of my new job, i was driving through Nairobi when i was rear ended by a lady driving a Hyundai excel, after my whiplash, i got out and walked to the rear, and saw the hyundai completely caved in and was dreading what to expect to see on the 505...long story short, my boss never discovered what his 505 had been involved in as i had managed to erase all evidence with a bit of boot polish on the rear bumper and it looked good as new. These cars are seriously tough!

Ha! My USA market 1981 505TD got rear ended by a Ford Escort. The 505 was parked in the street so I didn’t have to endure any injury. The 505 tailpipe got stuck in the escort’s face. Though a vaguely obscene scene, some minor muffler work and the 505 was fine. The escort was very badly damaged.

Tough as nails the 505. My late father owned the base GR model which rolled over 3 and a half times at 80 kmh on a dirt road and landed on its wheels with the roof still intact. Saved his life.

@@charliefm826 You'd have to ask the engineers at Peugeot. This model was for years officially the safest used car in Australia when it came to survival in real life crashes.Furthermore, the car still started when the wrecker drove it in and out each day !

Yeah, this is the first foreign car that my family bought/ owned! Its design, i still love it, the dashboard was super cool back then, no regular car had that back then, the display was also really standing out in the night time. And dad is a pro driver, so you can imagine the amounts of fun i had in the back seat, enjoying our travels around the country with it.

Don't agree with you about the design. The design was nearly perfect 80's fashion, and well proportioned and elegant. It was a big hit in europe at the time. It had everything, space, comfort, durability and good handling.

Peugeot is super popular in latin américa. We love them. Simple, reliable, comfortable. Very happy to see them popular over there. And strange with right side wheel.
    Congrats for the video.

I worked at a Peugeot dealership in the 1980s. The 505 was really a nice car, but it's wasn't cheap and just about every competing car was a better value and/or better car. And when Japanese cars like Hondas and Toyotas starting getting better, then it was game over for Peugeot in the US

Still beautiful. The only thing I ever found odd was the gear knob which seemed put the wrong way. Normally the palm of the hand sits on the roundish part. Having said that it was a very comfortable car and fun to drive with its rear wheel drive.

Paul Bracq was also the designer of the BMW Series 5 E12 (and most of the design of the E28 with minor modifications). In this era, the 505 models were a more affordable alternative to the BMW 518/520, with similar technical characteristics : RWD, 4 and 6 cylinder engines, but the 505 Turbo couldn't match the M5, tho.

Thank you for a vídeo about a magnificent dar, the 505.
Here in Europe the 504 and the 505 were Famous, excellent vehicles.
Acctually, in my extended Family there were 404s, 504s, and the 505s.
Long lasting cars, highly comfy and safe, delievering great gas mileage.
Assisted by a wide network of Dealerships, affording unexpensive post-warranty service, the Peugeot line kept the cars running in good shape until the cows came home.
As they say in Vermont (USA).
In the US, without a comprehensive Dealer-network, the brand was unable to provide a proper assistance.
Same situation applied to the Famous, Advanced Citroen DS 21.Durable and highly sophisticated vehicles, years ahead of the competition.
the Brand also lacked a network.
And above all, the corner gas station, used to deal with Ramblers and Chevrolets, lacked the capacity and even the tools to service such advanced vehicles.
The futuristic suspension, enabling the vehicle to run just on three wheels, in case of a flat tire, was far beyond the skills of a common mechanic.
Thank you once again for your videos.

Fun fact: The Peugeot 505 acted as a JDM Nissan Gloria police car in Power Rnagers in Space ep 13. They added rattle can painted oarts around the grill to mimic the Japanese car as well as raking off the windshield mirrors to add some sort of weird mirrors on the hood

I really enjoy seeing a 505 on youtube, i've got a 84 GRD. But you're pretty wrong about the "air conditioning" buttons, just saying.. And is a manual gearbox special? Like 80% of older cars are manual in europe. But still nice to see that you found a nice 505 to review 👍...and yes the seats are great - but nothing beats Saab seats 😍

I didn't hear the bell ding sounf of the key in ignition, I found out who makes that little ding ding key in the ignition ding device. OMRON 98620 2600 So now I can put one in my 504, and have the same sound as the 505 had. But you have to use a Chinese motorcycle led Flasher relay to make it work you can't hook constant to a 12v to it or it will cook it.
