Must admit, I was wondering when we didn’t see you for a while. Think it’s the way our brains ( well, mine): go when young, married ladies go quiet for s bit. Re the Australia look. Remember that the seasons are reversed, although the occasions are not. Catherine is wearing an AUTUMN outfit in keeping with the season where she was which can start being quite cool around Easter depending where on the continent you are. In the northern hemisphere, of course, it would be spring and colour and a straw hat base would be expected.
Congratulations - I would love to say I knew this was the reason, but I cant prove it, so there we are 🙂. Very glad to see you on the screen aggain. Im sure you will find a fabulous way to make beautiful hats for Baby Hat! I adore the square pillbox, and like most pill box pieces Im sure that one had rather fault proof way of securing it to the hair/head without stress. The biggest risk with compllex pieces is while llooking good, if there is not a fail proof way to secure it to the hair with ease, it becomes annoying and the temptation to fiddle with it while wearing it is hard. And one thing we have never really seen Catherine do is fiddle with her headpieces. SO i suspect it did have a curved inner attached to it. WHile it looks like it is balanced on the bun, I suspect it was designed with the hair style accordingly, and under the headpiece Im sure is hair ties the combs can secure to.
I attribute Catherines growing hemlines to her age and ever growing ranking position and role in the Royal family. I thought that a bit like the theory behind high heels correlating with economic downturn being debunked, the hemline correlation is a bit the same - there are occasional correlations, but a lot of exceptions.
