- Welcome to Movie Shortens. In 2093, a spaceship is launched into deep space to discover who visited Earth all those years ago and what they desired. Archaeologists refer to them as "the engineers" because they are believed to have engineered and created humanity. Are these the gods who made us? Humans discover a mysterious structure and architect left by voyagers from another planet long before homo sapiens evolved after landing on a rocky terrain of the desolate moon. They also learn that they are not alone in this place!

For a group of supposedly professional and smart people in their field, they definitely have done some of the most idiotic things. Vickers who in the beginning, appears to look like the most sensible person of them all, turns out to be nothing more than just a filler role which serves no purpose at all for the whole story.
No kidding.
- Trained scientists afraid of beings that have been dead for thousands of years...and still manage to get lost despite the Pyramid (why do they call it a pyramid? It's a mound. Pyramids have sides) being mapped and in communication with the ship. And yet...
-Those trained scientists are decidedly (and fatally) *not* afraid of a strange alien snake-penis.
-Holloway takes off his mask because oxygen is present! Has he never heard of airborne pathogens or any of the many toxic gasses that might not be present in one area but highly concentrated in another?
-Why is Holloway so depressed at the failure to find living Engineers? IT'S BEEN ONE DAY, and they have already made probably the greatest discovery in human history. A little patience might be prudent.
-Why is Holloway such an asshole to David? Surely an archaeologist would be sensitive to matters of human technological advancement, different cultures, and understand what David represents.
-Why are the crew generally so nasty to each other? I understand the secrecy of the mission, but how is it that they are not all in absolute awe over what they are doing? Apart from the bridge crew and Shaw and Holloway, there is basically no cohesion at all. Everyone's a dick.
And so on.
Although I have to hand it to those Engineers, using fife-based password encryption to unlock their ship.

i agree but i still think this movie is great, from the portrayal of David being an empathetic phyco, and noomi being so crazy she is able to fight a prometion after giving birth to a tentacle alien. the whole lore behind it, if it wasn't for covenant taking the story in a bad direction, could have been a really fun trilogy, the music and visuals are fantastic and they had 2 great actors to carry all future films.

This is the problem with most science fiction films like this. The characters are simply idiotic given that their on an extremely important mission and are so called “experts” in their respective fields. What kind of scientist touches a mysterious alien black goo with his bare hands?!
Decontamination is a priority in any mission to a new world. First thing is to keep outside stuff out and inside stuff in. You can’t take off your helmet. You need to decontaminate your suite. You do not bring a alien head into a space craft. Come on writers. Write stories that make the audience believe in your story.

Let's say that they are properly did their biosecurity protocol, but there are some unknown inactive virus that is immune to earth biosecurity protocols (since it's alien world). Then the virus activates since it enters the suitable environment, quickly turning a crew member into a state of feeding frenzy while slowly mutating the crew member into an alien like humanoid.....(You can continue the story)

i love how the title is made to make the aliens sound so bad but creating life and then letting it blossom just to kill it is exactly what humans would do
Only once sapience and sentience come into the picture, our morals start to come into play. Sure, we are collectively stupid, egoistic and egomaniac, but we have learned at least a few morals and we do have a bit of a conscience. So, creating a random mushroom, watching it grow and evolve and then terminating it? Sure! Creating a random monkey, watching it grow and gain intelligence near or equal our own, then terminating it? Less so. Unless it threatens us with harm first, of course!

@@AnkurPandeyef And your point is? I was simply clarifying that humanity as a whole would hesitate to act like the engineers because of our morals and ethics. Did I ever mention our ways of thinking being the same? Nope! I actually pointed out a difference in my attempt to assure Equatiks that humanity would not in fact do this kind of thing so easily, since they stated that the engineers and humanity were alike because we would do the same.
So once again, what is your point and did you even read either of our comments before posting yours?
Because even if you are replying to Equatiks comment instead of mine, your reply still makes no sense. How is intelligence connected to wanton genocidal tendencies? I always thought that morals and ethics or the lack there of were the foundation for that one. After all, even a caveman could concievably come to the same conclusions as either of the races in question, influenced only by their personal believe of right and wrong, all while being dumb as a rock, it would just take them longer to conclude their reasoning!
And lastly, I am fairly certain that anything intelligent enough to figure out space travel, by default has got to be intelligent enough to have developed their versions of philosophy and ethics, at least to some degree. Even if that boils down to a basic statement of "We are supreme, all others matter not. Kill if you so desire as long as you do no harm to our own species" or some such nonsense. The engineers seem to fit that statement pretty well. It seems that being intelligent is not a reason for them to give another race the basic right to continue living for as long as they do not cause harm to them. Or that is the way they were portraied in the movie at least. Who knows? The ones shown could have been the equivalent of rouge mad scientists with nazi supremacy beliefs, trying to act out their agenda while being hunted down by their own race. Certainly would explain the experimental alien prototype they had with them.

Yet we have no problem killing them or using them for experiments. So, I'm not sure I'm seeing this morality you're talking about.

This movie has so many holes. It was fun though. The fact they went on such a long journey with only cave drawings as proof is a huge red flag why not send probes first

No, it's not at all. The alien at the end of Prometheus is called the Deacon. The alien from the original Alien movie is a Xenomorph.
@@ChrisWolfe31 Indeed. I'm wondering how it would fair against the Xenomorph and what would be the resulting offspring or the one that prevailed. I don't know what they did with this series though. Looks like they had an idea and run with it thinking the plot would come to them, but then had a writer's block and had to go back to Aliens to complete it.

I wish they explored more of this. Humans discover who/what made man , why did they do it, do they know the meaning of life, why are they disappointed in how we turned out, what other life forms exist bc of them? What wiped them out and why? Etc.

I remember being frustrated when I watched this film. It reminded me of contact, with all the God arguments and spiritualizing of looking for aliens.

At least we didn't get another Jarr Jarr Binks out of it! 🤦♂️ The creatures in this movie were truly terrifying and made this movie somewhat watchable.
I see people writing dumb shit like this all the time. I've been a fan of the alien franchise for 30 years now, I wasn't even born when the first one came out.
But yes, even that first one has ALL the same "dumb shit" (faults) that Prometheus and Alien Covenant has. You are watching it through rose tinted glasses.
In the first movie - he literally sticks his face down to the eggs, after seeing an alien for the first time in human history - with his chest burst open no less, and then thousands of eggs that seem to lay dormant - and it opens up when he gets close.
We can go on - they go look for the cat, when there's a massive huge monster on the Nostromo killing crew members.
Again, the dumbest movie of them all is *by far* the James Cameron version - but I rarely hear people complain about that movie. He totally *destroyed* Ridley's concept by making the alien a dumb insect. That was _never_ Ridley scott and the original writers vision of the Alien franchise. James Cameron on the other hand explicitly always said he wanted to make a Starship Troopers movie - so when he got Aliens, he made one but with Xenomorphs which is why they keep using lingo from Starship Troopers (like Bug hunt, etc).
Prometheus and Alien Covenant, all in all, are *great* Alien movies. The 4th and the 2nd are far, far worse movies, although I enjoy the 2nd as well - but an "Alien" movie it is *most definitely* not.

The whole concept has fallen apart over time.
The elephant like race was just humans in suits. Not even just humans, but original humans.
The aliens were just some random animals bred by original humans to be aggressive and then David messed around with them a bit to increase that.
All of it is just humans experimenting and running around screaming or killing their failed human experiments.
At this point in the franchise the only thing I still find interesting is the race of giant people that were exterminated the instant they appeared in order to squash all genuine intrigue that might be left in the Alien universe.
To watch an expansive creative work like this retroactively fall apart over the years is just… well I feel embarrassed for the whole thing on its behalf.

One of my favorite movies... As a kid I always thought humans were brought to Earth as a experiment... Sort of like a science project... The way we have day and night, hot and cold, fire and water, etc seems on purpose...like someone or something set this up...I always believed that we are the real ALIENS to earth...I believe in a Higher Power

I tell you... It was the first time I ever did edibles and they were hitting me hard. The scene in the beginning where the alien just disintegrated... Seeing the DNA splitting up like that made me feel so unbelievably mortal so naturally I began freaking out 😂

It's amazing that their little seeding project almost failed. If it weren't for the previous 5 extinction events, it would have been a colossal waste of time.

Was he actually Vickers Father? I read that he couldn't have been, because on the website when entering "when did Vickers die?" It says 2049 and this expedition took place 40 years later. Unless he had another daughter and named her the same name as his deceased daughter? It suggested she was a synthetic like David. But an older model.

A very dangerous movie which showed that wasnt God who created us.... Too tricky
It didn't show anything. It tried to tell so, kinda like an axiom, but no proof on that whatsoever. The two movies didn't even manage to explain each other. Why did they "seed"(IF they did, it's just Ridley saying so) the planet. What is the black goo(it has so many uses)? Why they revere the Xenomorphs so much if they can Engineer? Is it a hive mind? They decapitate the dead Alien and later on the alive Alien decapitates David. Where is their planet of Origin. Was the Earth Engineer from a different faction? Are humans in this parallel universe bred by the engineers to conduct experiments with the goo/Xenomorphs or both of these? Are they benevolent or Malevolent? If they're so smart why were the Engineers presented as so stupid? Does Ridley Scott even know where he was heading with the first two Prometheus films? And so many other questions.
