I used to split the signal in at least 2 tracks before and worked on each part of the bass spectrum, but now I've finally gotten around a very simplistic free bass chain: Nembrini Black (the filter function is perfect to dial in where you actually want the dirt in your sound) -> TSE BOD (preamp and eq to shape the tone) -> Nalex Bass (Ampeg poweramp sim) -> good IRs (I still have the Darkglass DG410C IRs by Seacow back when they were free) -> TDR Nova. That's it. 100% free and so versatile because you have the filter function on the RAT style pedal, preamp EQ on the Sansamp style pedal, Low and High boost on the Ampeg Amp and the TDR Nova as dynamic eq. This is by far the best sounding chain I've yet made.
Hello, Kai! What's cool is that I saw the Mammoth plugin (which I downloaded some time ago). And then I listened to Kai mixing it, and I went, "HEY, let's do some tweaking of one of my bass tracks." The point is that Kai helped me get a better sounding mix. The bass is still aggressive but less muddy now.
Hey Kai! That's a sick bass tone. I like that it's still mostly clean but super fat and modern. Nothing wrong with a little bass editing, I do that a lot for faster sections. It's all about clarity for this fast kinda music. Hell yeah 🍻
Loved the video, Kai is a cool guy! Do you have plans on doing something like this for an In Flames Come Clarity bass tone? I can’t seem to get my bass to really sound like that tractor/chainsaw bass
I saw overkill when i was 12 when rhey were on the years of decay tour. There was like 12 people there but they played like it was a sold out festival.
nowadays everybody is into old metal like overkill but back in the day when them records came out nobody even talk about em much I think the internet is making metal bigger than its ever been
Well I just listend to the mentioned Overkill album to get an idea of the bass sound. Today you can get this sound pretty easy by simply using Tech21s DP-3X Pedal.
Cool stuff 😜 Funny, I come from a different bass land where the goal is to get the bass to growl rather than dangle....but always good to learn about other music styles and techniques

I bought a Darkglass preamp the b7k ultra now I am happy with my bass guitar sound :) Advertising at its finest but I used to use the neural d sp Darkglass plugin and the hardware sounds a lot better to me. I have heard comparisons where I could not tell the difference but working with the hardware seems easier to me. Anyway the Sound in this Video is also cool :)
I don't like backstair they had a thing with selling tube amps that where no tube amps or something like that. I did not really get it but it gave me a negative feeling towards the brand. What I got is I played a backstar amp and it did not sound right to me. So that's a more proper reason to not like them. Even if its slightly unfair since their might be something good hiding under the backstair label. But ill stick to my negativ impression :p
First i wanted to say hello and second, i am searching around for stacking rhythm guitar techniques using only one performance per side. Please make a video running a single DI into two amps and ir's and show us how you deal with the phase. The goal is fatness.
Cannot agree more...if you listen to isolated bass tracks to some Master of Puppets album songs...sanitarium for example or battery...that feels and sounds like a raw and natural overdrive while still keeping the original bass tone...compared to these artificial overly compressed distortions of today
This is the problem with music these days ( just my opinion) it's over produced. That's where Metallica lost it, sounds artificial and too clean. It's lost the grittyness.
@@KohleAudioKult Probly not no. I listen to much often out of the perspective of what I would do with the sound. And I really like my own bass setup. Can get a bit critical then but this bass sounds very good but then somewhere it misses something.
I really appreciate this guy's technical process… But nothing he did made the song better. All of this time spent mixing in solo is all for nothing if you don't make the song… The SONG the best that it can be.
Say hello to Kai! Say hello to clanky bass tones! 👿
Hey, Kai!🍺🍺Studio Devil... about 12 years old and still making records. 😈
I just might have to get the CLA bass too.
Hi Kai! And hi, clanky bass tones! 👿
Kai we love you!
Hi Kai!!! Awesome course! I’ve watched it twice… so much to take away. Might have to watch it a few more times 😊👍🏻
Hiiiiii Kaaaai 👻
We need much more bass related stuff on here, gear reviews and so on.
Pretty please, Herr Kohle ^^
Everything on UA-cam should be about bass!
As usual the best Metal advice out there! Great having other people on the channel! Different perspectives rule. You're the man
As Warren would say, dangerous bass!
He runs his channel "marvelously well". 😇 As you do also. 😇

Dude! Amazing! 👍
Hello Kai! Thank you very much for the ideas about improving my bass sound in a mix. You are a gentleman and a scholar!
FIRST. Couldn't come at a better time as I'm tracking bass for a band this week 😈😈
Kyle!!!!!! Dude you and Kohle would make an epic collab.
Hey it’s heavy metal Matt Damon 🤘🏻
We already did a video together!
@@KohleAudioKult Oh sweet!! I don’t know how I missed it. I’ll go and check it out now! Thanks Kohle!!

Check out the entire course. Lots of wisdom and cool advice there!
That are very very nice!
A video about deathcore/metalcore breakdown mix would be interesting, to tame de lows and still let the chug come to life

Good to meet Kai! (Is that how you spell his first name??) Bass tone sounds absolutely pro! 🎸🎶😎
Big Cheers to Kai, who recorded all of my guitars when we did our Albums with Ra's Dawn!
Good stuff! 🤘❤️
Hellyeah, nice to see Kai on the channel ! Brings back good memories working with him 💪 Greets from Huvanity

Hello Kai, very clear explanations, it sounds nice. As usual the best channel for mix tips.
Hello Kai! Thanks for the explanation.

I talked about them back in the days! Thrash Metal was pretty much dead when Nu Metal came up though.
Well I just listend to the mentioned Overkill album to get an idea of the bass sound. Today you can get this sound pretty easy by simply using Tech21s DP-3X Pedal.
Hello Kai, thanks for the process, hi Christian.
I've used last night a couple of stuff he did for overheads and snare/kick. Great course!
Hell yeah Kai is cool. Lets have him back sometimes. It seems as though he teaches pretty well.
Love that dängle dängle sound

Hi, Kai! Only using one bass track?! crazy talk. Joking, sounds great.

Hallo Kai 🤘
Hello Kai , how lucky are you to have worked with Kristian for so long.
Not sooo sure of that 🥳🤣

I still think it still sounds kinda artificial. I know I don't need to be naive but with thrash metal, I wouldn't mind some authentic dirt in the mix.
Welcome to modern productions. Modern producers always ruin the music. Everything is too artificial, clean and smooth. Turned metal into pop crap

This is the problem with music these days ( just my opinion) it's over produced. That's where Metallica lost it, sounds artificial and too clean. It's lost the grittyness.
I accidentally achieved this by buying a mediocre bass, going slightly below drop d, and using a Sawtooth 45 watt amp
Dude... That is oooooone helluva long ass middle finger. 🧐
Anyone still micing bass cabs ? I really think these overprocessed bass DI's sound dull ...
Sure. But I don’t think you can tell a real cab from the IR (of a real cab) in the Studio Devil to be honest.
