What a wonderful film about friendship, love and loss (and so much more) this is with such beautiful acting! A gem of a movie! Thankful to have found it.
Loved this film: the lifetime-spanned storyline of two friends who connect, distance, then re-connect with mountains as their catalyst. For a pensive film, it runs quite long at 147 minutes. However, the length allows for fleshing out the plot line and the two main characters in depth. The acting and cinematography are truly stunning and engaging. The music fits perfect: Daniel Norgren's style reminds me of the mellow songs of Fleet Foxes or My Morning Jacket. Bravo!

It is strange: I don't like it.....but it works. I can't explain this.
@JAlmaraz it's because the mountain's height would look "bad" with the normal format which is strongly horizontal (sorry for the bad english). the 4:3 format is a clever choice and it makes the movie special too
Absolute masterpiece, saw it last night at Lincoln Center and cried my face out.

@@KingMGvin the movie you can see the Monte Rosa (Mount Rosa) and the peaks around the Val D'Ayas. The Lake is the Blue Lake of Verra

A wonderful movie maybe I feel it close and I can smell it because I grew up in the foothills of the Alps, a world I fled from and now that I have lived in Texas for years, I always dream of the day when I will return again to live where I grew up. I thank Paolo Cognetti the pen that gave life to this story, the very good Alessandro Borghi who fully descended into the character by concealing his Roman accent very well, which Marinelli did not do very well. All seasoned with an extraordinary and touching soundtrack, "Come here now, you better come fast, as long as we last"
Since we are not Italians (all the viewers) things like that don't matter (accent) or catch our attention.

Can’t agree with you more. This movie has so much depth to it without showing any flesh. The story, the movie together with the music, it filled my mind, heart and soul. Thanks to the co-writers/co-directors, Felix and Charlotte, their artistic capability in bringing it all together perfectly and brilliantly to tell the story of an award-winning novel. ❤❤❤👏👏👏

I can see how it can come off as that. Male friendship is often frowned upon and mislabeled as being somewhat homosexual, but The Eight Mountains dares to look at the beauty and deep respect that's in a friendship between two men. It's a very honest and bold film, that's partly why it's so good.
