Best female vocalist ever in my opinion. She kicked the door open for every female vocalist that came after her whether they realize it or not. Her rawness and unwillingness to conform turned the music industry on its head.
Summertime is one of the greatest songs ever. It’s the most famous aria from the great American opera, Porgy and Bess. It’s been covered hundreds of time in so many styles. Janis’ version is among my favorites. She takes it to a new level.
Appreciate your reaction. Janis had so much soul you just felt it and heard it in her voice that projected her pain but gave a beautiful gift to the world that was that voice ❤
Don't forget she always had one helluva band behind her - I think this is with the original Big Brother and the Holding Company, with James Gurley on guitar. Blends Blues, Soul, R&B, and Acid Rock (think "Metal before Metal happened") all together seamlessly. Bass player puts in some serious WORK on this one, too! Let's hear it for the band! And that chick up front ain't bad, neither! ;);)
Janis is phenomenal. That's what this song reflects. Those of us back in the day, well we just don't compare other talents to "ACTUAL" talent of today because there is no comparison band or vocals. No metter who you are listening to.
Great track she was already a speed freak, LSD explorer, heroin addict, chain smoker and alcoholic but maybe that's why she sounds so good? 1969 and she died in 1970 at age 27 just one year later of a heroin mistake.
Check out The Tedeschi Trucks Band. Current band. They play live all the time. Best touring band around. Husband and wife are the leads. Full 12 piece band. They are where it’s at 😁 Keep on growing-live fox theater Midnight in Harlem-crossroads guitar festival I pity the fool-live in Boston Those 3 songs will have you hooked ☺️
Greetings from Canada. Who comes close? Two come to mind: Beth Hart (try her 'Am I the One' LIVE at the Paradiso- with Jon Nicholls Band) and Mahalia Barnes (try her 'Riding With the Kings' LIVE with Joe Bonamassa in Indiana or near there). Enjoy! Peace, love and bellbottoms.

Janis is one of the greatest female vocalist everand can never be replaced, but you may like Beth Hart caught out in the rain, live at Albert hall, and Am i the one live at paradiso. or Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa, Ill take care of you. I think you like them.
who can come close is 2023? no one. wow is what we said when we first heard her in 67 and wow is what we're saying in 2024 and will be saying for the rest of time.
I just found your channel and this was your last reaction? I get that this can't be topped - it's sublime at it's best but you can appreciate music so genuinely that you MUST continue......... Another great singer from the time but complete opposite is Joni Mitchell. Try her live version of Woodstock or California. If Janis is the definition of RAW then Joni is the definition of ANGELIC
Janis was legendary. No one comes close. ❤
Janis and Jimi were and are irreplaceable and one of a kind.
American music never replaced Janis, and we never will, and that's just enough to break a heart.
Anjelica Jordan has similar vibes to Amy Winehouse and sings lots of the old Blues/ Jazz ..Not same tho
Janis is Queen of the Blues..
No one tears a hole in the universe with her voice like Janis
Janis voice is a musical instrument....
This has to be one of the greatest songs ever
Best female vocalist ever in my opinion. She kicked the door open for every female vocalist that came after her whether they realize it or not. Her rawness and unwillingness to conform turned the music industry on its head.
Rock vocalist for sure.
It’s her and Aretha for me EASY as the top 2 female recording artists ever.

Love your reaction! Her cry baby live and work me lord live in Stockholm performances are great
I LOVE YOU JANIS !
"Work me Lord" live in Stockholm 1969. Might be her "Magnum Opus".
This is my favorite performance of Summertime. The band is great, Big Brother and the Holding Company.
❤❤❤
Time for more Janis Joplin. Check out Janis Joplin Work Me Lord Live in Stockholm 1969. This performance will blow your mind!! Good luck!
She was the end all to any female singer I ever heard..No comparison
No one comes close. Amazing.
This was live in Stockholm Sweden
she puts her heart and soul into every song
NOBODY today can't come close
This is one of the better versions of Summertime so will have to search it out.
Great track she was already a speed freak, LSD explorer, heroin addict, chain smoker and alcoholic but maybe that's why she sounds so good?
1969 and she died in 1970 at age 27 just one year later of a heroin mistake.
If you can see Janis singing, it live.
Janis was one of a kind!! A lot of love performances
A lot of live performances will blow you away
Good point. Probably nobody had her experiences now days.

Great reaction, order the "Cheap Thrills" CD, it's a cultural artifact of 60s music.

BETH HART IS THE CLOSEST WE HAVE TO JANIS, IN FACT SOME PEOPLE THINK IF JANIS WAS STILL ALIVE SHE WOULD BE LIKE BETH HART. CHECK HER OUT.
Thank you for the suggestions, I’ll definitely check them out! 🫶🏽❤️

Courtney Hadwin is amazing on AGT. Sounds like a young Janice at 13.

Angelina Jordan. She doesn't remind me of Janice at all, however, at 17 yrs old right Now, she is already one of the best vocalists....EVER
She was amazing.
Too bad she was a tortured soul and couldn’t accept any praise.
Angelina jordan is close...
Hey Lola, I think the first version we heard of this tune, from the LP "Cheap Thrills", is much rawer, better than this one.
Oooo ok! I’ll be the judge of that lol 😂 ❤️
No body
