    I bought a set of Tommy Armour 845 Max irons a couple of years ago. I love them. I strike the ball better than my previous set of Ping G5s. I paid less than half what my golf buddies paid for their big name irons and the play equally well. Thanks

    I work in the golf department at Dick’s and the shafts and grips are pro line brands. The only thing different are the heads which appear to be made of premium materials.

    My 845 Driver and 3 Wood are fantastic. My nephew broke my Driver so I bought this because of price. The look is astonishing. I can control my direction so we'll I went and bought the 3 Wood and 5 Wood. They are so beautiful in my bag. There is great consistency between the feel of all three clubs. I got the Driver consistently over 260. The 3 Wood is my 230-245 shot and I can hit the 5 Wood 215-225. Even though those distances are great for me at 55 years old the accuracy is what I really like. The best thing I can say is I trust them when I pull them out.

      Man I have been going back and forth on the driver, and whether or not to buy it. On one hand, I really love everything about it, and the price is unreal. On the other, I painted my M2 custom with Jordan graphics and it's been a solid club. Your comments push me further toward buying the driver.

    I bought the 845 Max Irons (5 - AW), and the 845 Max Driver...I then bought the new release of the Adams Fairway Clubs (3 in 16* loft and 5 in 19* loft), and Hybrids (3 in 20* loft and 4 in 23* loft)...What A BADASS Set of Clubs...And, they are a damn good match design wise too.
    At 65 years old, I hit the Tommy Armour 845 Max Driver on average 250 yards, with a roll out to 264ish yards...Hit the Adams 3W on average 225 yards, with a roll out of 237 yards...Hit the 5W on average 212 yards, with a rollout of 220 yards.
    The BIG surprise is when I hit the Tommy Armour 845-Max Seven Iron in the cage and was getting consistent, 160 yards on the fly, and a roll out to 172 yards...The other clubs I hit in 7 Iron (TaylorMade, Mizuno Cobras, Calloway), the best I could muster from them was 145 on the fly, with a roll out to about 155 yards...NEEDLESS to say, I was SOLD on the Tommy Armour 845-Max Irons!!!
    BOTH the Tommy Armour and Adams Clubs are VERY Under-Rated, Under Appreciated, and Under Used!!!

    I bought these about 18 months ago to replace my tommy armour TA iron set.
    Took me a little while to get adjusted to them but I am hitting these very good. I get 155 to 165 with the 8 iron that's like a 7 with the old set but I do struggle with height.

    I replaced my Ping G15 irons with the TA345 Max irons. I’m 69 and I was having issues with golf elbow hitting the hard red clay here in Oklahoma! I also had regular flex woods & irons and decided to change to senior flex and graphite shafts which I read would help with golf elbow issues. I also changed to the stack & tilt swing method to eliminate lower back pain. I no longer have elbow or back issues and hitting the ball longer and more consistent!

    I'm super happy to finally find a real review of these irons on here! I just got back into playing golf last year (spring of '21) after a four year hiatus from back issues. After I got the 845 iron set I was so impressed with the quality and feel I started buying the entire 845 line of clubs. The only thing that's not the 845 series in my golf bag is the bag itself and an Odyssey Stroke Lab Marxman putter. Not to say the putters are bad in any way, because they're just as good as the rest of the series, but I have just always preferred the feel of an insert putter. The 845 series is absolutely fantastic. I have the driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid, iron set, and 52°, 56°, and 60° wedges. During a lesson this last summer my golf coach (huge Titleist guy) couldn't believe how good the wedges felt and told me I was lying when I told him I only paid $80 per wedge, brand new. Haha! He told me they felt as good to him as his Vokey SM8's, and he's a very good player at a +1 handicap.

      @@Reffitt2 I have seen a little different information about it, but there is clearly some connection (between tommy armour and odyssay and Callaway). Some, said, Callaway bought odyssay brand from Tommy Armour. But others may say, someone bought tommy armour and also odyssay and then that owner sold odyssay to Callaway. But anyway, there is, a real connection, though a little difficult to find the info.
      As for me, I have some really weird tommy armour clubs that I bought 2nd hand and that no one seems to know anything about, though I try to find some information about them (there are a few photos of them on internet, that's all, there is really no other info about them on the internet). Perhaps they were from before the 845's? They don't have any clearly visible weights on them (on the backside, like the 845's) but look like most any golf club from that time I guess. But the hit is/feels very good. Though I am curious about how the 845's are to play with.
      (the driver etc in my golf bag says Tommy armour emblem cam sole 1. I was able to find an old add for them from 1989, which was the same time that tommy armour made the mistake to try equal length on their new irons, which was a failure and the start of the end of their brand success. But the drivers were still among the best at that time, from what I have read. And then there are my strange "legend" tommy armour irons...?? (looks similar to ping from around that time)
      They (the once I have) say: Tommy Armour Legend. They are old, but I think they feel good to play with.

    • @Reffitt2

      @@staffan144 Yeah it's funny how brands are bought and sold through different companies. Years ago Adams Golf was the go-to brand for fairways metals and damn were they good, then Taylormade bought Adams and put their tech in TaylorMade clubs which is why TaylorMade's fairway metals are so nice and easy to hit these days. In golf balls the same guy was behind the original design of both the Pro-V1 and the TaylorMade Penta (which of course today is the TP5), Dean Snell. That's cool that you have Tommy Armour clubs that are so old, man! Might be worth some cash one day. They still make good products today as I've heard the same company manufacturers Armour for Dick's.

  • @timothypollock8358
    @timothypollock8358 3 роки тому +2

    I see some slight improvement in the early release here. Arms and club are still coming inside too fast. Here is the simplest explanation that I can offer about the fix for your takeaway path. Stretch your arms so that your hands travel as parallel as possible to the target path and make the clubhead travel on a more upward path to shaft parallel to the ground. The clubhead is too low to the ground and workng inside too quickly.. So you actually need to feel like you are picking it up more until shaft parallel. Momentum should help you from there to have a better backswing path. All good players have the shaft roughly parallel to the toe line (if not along the toe line: which I think would be good for you) at shaft parallel to the ground. It could also help to keep your lead upper arm from contacting your pec for the first foot of the backswing.
    With the momentum of the clubhead travelling too low and inside on the backswing, it naturally tends toward high (steep) and outside on the downswing. This is just simple physics when the momentum of club and clubhead is factored in. I hope that this helps and believe that it will Rooting for ya ...
    BTW, I used to have some 845 knockoffs that I used for many years and they were great, I must say!

      I've actually had a few range sessions lately where I feel like I've REALLY gotten on track. I refuse to watch myself on video right now though, lol. Whatever I'm doing is working well.

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 3 роки тому

      @@GolfTestDummy I'm glad that something is working better and I'd like to think that I had something to do with it but I know that golf's a funny game. In many decades of playing, I've literally gone from hitting the ball like Rory Mcilroy to Duffey McEvoy and back many times (mostly on the better side, but lot's of the other). Sometimes in very short order. I well know what it's like to become careful about your swing, almost as though a puff of wind might blow your current success away.
      Once in my twenties, a pro gave a tip during a lesson which felt really weird to me and on my next range session, I started flying the ball 30+ yards past the end of the 300 yd. range at will and had total control over almost every club and hitting them miles, drawing and fading precisely at will. I had such a late release, that I literally felt as though I had to wait at the ball for the clubhead to catch up to my hands and then POW!! This is what has prompted me to really try and understand the golf swing from A-Z instead of just guessing. What this has taught me is that certain mechanical principles of the swing just cannot be dispensed with without loss of effectiveness. Great swings may look quite different from one another but they nonetheless stray from these principles at their peril and I can now always see why a certain swing works whereas before I was often left scratching my head.
      In any case, I believe that getting the clubhead to come inside a little slower and up a little quicker and you might have even more reason to get excited. You don't have to look at it. Just try a little rehearsal before each shot to feel it and then go. Up to you but good luck in any case. After looking at again though, you have definitely improved your hip action in the direction that I indicated (I don't know if it was intentional or not) and that's allowing you to preserve your angles a little longer. So congrats.

    I just started playing earlier this year and, this Tommy Armour set is the one I'm going with once tax season rolls around. I've already got the 845 driver and the Impact 3 putter and, I love both of them. The only question I have is which is better for a beginner; the Max or, the tungsten? I'm kind of leaning toward the Max because the oversized heads allow for more forgiveness and come with graphite shafts but, I read that tungsten is heavier and more durable which, is a plus for me considering I bought a used set of irons and two of the heads have already snapped off. I know they're used but, I expected them to last longer than one season.

      I've never tried the Max, so I can't really speak to which is better for you, but, the great thing is that you can try them both in the sim at Golf Galaxy or Dicks. Hopefully the feels and numbers will help you choose.
