  • This is how to remove the lower control arm on a 2007 Land Rover lr3. The rear alignment bolt got stuck and I showed the process of removal using an air chisel. It took an extra 20 mins to get it out.

    Make sure the suspension is in its loaded position before u tighten the bolts which go thru any bushings? Otherwise the bushing rubber will not be in their natural position when car is on ground. I guess it does not matter when u will take the car to alignment shop. Do make sure they will loosen all those bolts and retighten to specs.

    Now I’m not sure if the bolts should be done up with the suspension at ride height or not?

    no torque setting, didn't replace any bolts. time is definitely worth more than safety here.

      Oh stop it. They don’t need to change the bolts. This guys has probably tightened of thousands of bolts and he knows the setting. It’s not critical.

    Those bushings are going to bind up and fail prematurely. Hubs need to be at ride height when control arm bolts are torqued.
    This is why people think Land Rovers are expensive to own and unreliable.

      Came here to say this - the mechanic was doing so well until the reassembly! New camber bolts with grease, and torquing the bolts (not smashing with a rattle gun) with the vehicle on the ground.

    You reused the bolts? A full bolt kit is $40 a side…

    Shocking reassembly! These guys are clearly lacking basic mechanical knowledge! Over tightening wheel nuts/lug nuts with an impact gun is how people lose a wheel and possibly their lives when out on the road due to the studs snapping and then waving goodbye to a wheel. These wheel nuts are only meant to be torqued to 140Nm. You basically set that Discovery up in a very dangerous manner. Let alone wasting the customers money due to not torquing the bolts with the suspension at normal ride height! Those bushings dont last long even when they're tightened using the correct procedure. Id be surprised if they lasted 12 months.
    I also can not believe you even re-used the old semi corroded bolts, especially on a vehicle that weighs 2 and three quarter tons!
    If it was your own car, then that's your choice, but if you're charging innocent customers who are entrusting you to repair their vehicle then this is completely unacceptable. This is the reason why I repair my own vehicles, I don't like gambling when it comes to the safety of my family and you have confirmed my distrust issues with garages and mechanics!
