    First couple postings I did was Cotton Bolls. I was amazed that a 10gil item sold for 500 each. I'm thrifty so I'd never spend 50x the vendor price, but as a poor noob I'm glad there are others who will! And at least this is 'honest' work. Better than the people who just repost items at higher prices.

    As someone who is an omnicrafter and an omnigather, this video is pretty funny. I knew I was saving a lot of gil by gathering the bulk of my own materials, but I didn't know I was saving this much!
    When I do buy materials on the MB, it's usually the materials that can only be gotten as mob drops (particularly leather) or when I need literally hundreds of a certain item. But in general, this is great advice; crafters tend to be super lazy and exploiting that market is the smart thing to do.

    • @Work2Game

      @@nh558a yeah, I have been trying to talk with the players on my server that are in the same market as me and tell them to only undercut by 1 gil and keep the prices high. But then some random person starts making items in our market and tanks the prices.

    • @Work2Game
      @Work2Game  5 років тому +14

      In some cases. Some of those the prices have gone too high and it won’t sell. I have been selling vendor commodities on this server consistently for over a mont leading into this video and some of these items will only go so high

    • @Work2Game
      @Work2Game  5 років тому +11

      I usually look at the history and keep that in mind. Granted while filming I was doing it fast so I don’t know if those were the most strategic pricings I could have done but by 1 only works if it sells for that price. If the history shows it only moving at 100 each and the market has it at 300 you run the risk of it just sitting there. I also price very differently for items I make vs items I bought off a vendor. The vendor stuff is not a capped market. My competition and I literally have an infitinte source of effortless items so it bounces around more

  • @Abyssionknight

    As a new player who really wanted to get into crafting, but thought the price of materials was way too high, I finally understand why! Makes sense, since running around to gather resources as a newbie is definitely a pain, so I can see now why the markets are pretty much a newb trap when it comes to a lot of materials. Definitely going to have to take advantage of this at some point!

Do not waste Gil on minions and mounts. After maxing our all of the classes save everything. When SHB drops, you wanna be able to o fund your way from 70 to 80 and buy materia to overmeld. To reduce this "minute of work" further you can buy many 99-Stacks at once, since they do not stack at 99 in your inventory. So you have less loading-screens for the items you are sure to sell many times a day.

    There's no reason to undercut by more than 1 gil, unless you're intentionally trying to crash the market. Buyers will always buy the lowest regardless. You can't go lower because you think the next seller is going to undercut /what you would have put/ BECAUSE /they will undercut you anyway/. They can see what you have up. So best to stay as high as possible.

    I am still early in Stormblood so not sure what to gather (I have level 70 botany and mining, and mid 50s fishing though) but I did this method. Majority was selling iron ore, and although it wasn't as much per stack as this video, I went from 44K 1 week ago, to just over 700K as of this morning. I dig it. I sold some big ticket items I got via ventures and some maps as well, but I'd say at least 400-450K was made selling these vendor items. amazing lol

    If you own a house or apartment you can put the vender and bell right next to each other and never even leave your house Lol. i used to reset prices on the boards to make money. When people were selling things way under priced i would buy them up and put them all right back on the boards at a price closer to what their worth. Its a risk though. Cuz sometimes you do all that and people go right back to distroying the items value and you either lose money or break even.

    I've just returned to the game after more than 3 years away and I had to make a new character unfortunately. I originally played at 2.0 launch and was an omnicrafter at 50 and 60 and was working on 70. I have found the biggest thing slowing me down is gil, I went with PLD as my first DoW class and thanks to the preferred server buff I'm leveling so fast I can't keep up with gear, so I started my crafting jobs. I managed to get them all to level 25+ but then hit the gil wall again. This guide is the video I needed to see to remind me of some of the tricks I've forgotten. The biggest piece of advice I needed to be reminded of is how do you get to your first million? SLOWLY. I'm like the guy in the video, I never sat on a fortune, I spent it but when I needed money I could make it, so when housing came out I just made 15 million and bought a medium house, then sat at 3-5 million until further notice.
    I have just hit some of the good money makers I remember on a couple of my crafters so I'm waiting on the market board as we speak but I also have about 30 retainer slots empty so as soon as I log on today my first task is to fill those. My PLD is about to hit level 41 and I don't want to do Stone Vigil in low end gear as I remember that dungeon steps it up a couple of notches on damage taken and my weapon is also out of date so, making money it is!
    Thanks for the guide buddy, you made a returning, and struggling player very happy.

      There’s an estimated 1 million active players and our videos stay under 50k views so I’m not sure it will have the impact you guys are fearing but I will say if it does, people get bored of things like this when they achieve a goal or find something else to focus on so it should level out in a few weeks when another good money making technique is talked about by someone in the community ;)

    • @wertjoe
      @wertjoe 5 років тому

      Chief, it takes one or two people per server to crash the market on an individual item. They get into an undercutting back and forth then the whole board is flooded and no one makes money for months. The thing is you're also shooting yourself in the foot and making it harder for YOU to make gil as well. Not sure why you're ok with that.

    During the last big housing rush I sold stacks of Fishmeal for 60k each when they sold from a vendor for 2k each. Used to sell tons of them to all the new people with houses getting into gardening lol... Biggest gil earner for generating gil from absolutely nothing is going to be gathering though. A low level miner can earn half a million to a million gil an hour mining silver ore for example.

    • @0bsidianfire948
      @0bsidianfire948 5 років тому +1

      Silver Ore is a great way to make cash. You need it all the way through for Stormblood materials, but you can't buy it anywhere. It has to be mined. Fortunately, it's a very low-level node, so you can just sit there and level mining while getting a bunch of silver ore.

    • @Elazul2k
      @Elazul2k 5 років тому +1

      @@0bsidianfire948 Yeah, there are a number of low level things people can gather that are still used in high level crafting which some high level may not want to bother gathering since time is money. Cobalt Ore is another good one starting at about level 50 miner I believe. Used to craft Cobalt Ingots which in turn are used in a ton of housing items as well as a number of the level 50 glamour weapons.

    Easiest way if you’re playing shadowbringers is do FATES on the first.
    Just accumulate bicolor gems then find the gem vendors. Buy housing items. Some of these items sell from 20k to 100k.
    By minimum sales of items, the bicolor gems is worth around 1500 gils per piece if you do the math. That means each fate is worth about 18,000 gils if you buy housing items with the gems. Check the market board which sell high and fast. Don’t get greedy and overprice.

    Another way to double-up on potential is to check sale prices of the crafted components. If you're already buying iron ore on the cheap--check the price of iron ingots. You can sometimes sell iron ore AND iron ingots for profit. Not to mention quick synthing ingots is a great way to slowly level up a craft (if it's in that area), and you can watch TV or something while you quick synth.
    Additional good vendor resale items are Emperor's New Gear and level 1 weapons/tools. Vendor furniture can be good too, but will require more research to make sure you stay in the black.

    It's not all about just being lazy though. For some new players that 5k profit for a 99 stack great, sure.
    But realize the crafter may use 5 of them and then put the remaining stack back on the MB to sell, or may just end up using all 99 to make multiple items. Sure now they are 5k out but at the end of the day the time saved may be worth it for them. One minute of my crafting time is worth 16k gil to me because I value my crafting time at 1mil/hr. So for some it is more worthwhile to spend the extra cash on the MB instead of running and hitting a few loading screens before you begin to craft.
    And I definitely budget my crafting time because too often I've sat down to make something and ended up working on it for 2 hours instead of one because of gathering materials from various NPCs or nodes. In the end I find I've lost money because I would have been better off buying double the mats off the MB and crafting a second set for more profit than gathering mats to reduce the price to craft the first set. Think of it as I spent 60k to make 200k (140k difference) because I gathered mats, but I could have just spent 220k to make 400k (180k difference) in the same amount of time by making double the amount of items (or less time since I never have to move away from the board/bell).

    This is a viable strat to start off getting gil, however no you won't get rich off of it over night, like the "25k gil in a day in under a minute's worth", that isn't much and you can get more than that by leveling a gatherer or a tank/healer queuing for a dungeon. Also if you want to make gil from the MB there are a few items that'll be more guaranteed to sell at a decent price, that is Timeworn Maps and Minions. Now some minions are a dime a dozen cause they drop from something just about every time, but some of the crafted ones you can find for a good 10k-100k or more depending on which one it is and if there are a lot of crafters on your server. Also gatherers, literally if you don't craft then everything you gather will be profit. High Quality DOES MATTER trust me there are going to be items you can buy at a vendor for cheap but they are Normal Quality and some crafter somewhere will be looking to grab up some HQ cause they want to make the HQ item and they need the HQ mats for it, so that Iron Ore he is selling in this video, go farm it. It takes me about an hour to get about 300-400 NQ Iron Ore and usually I have about 75-100 HQ as well. Gathering is at a nice set pace and can be something to do during those 15-20 minute DPS queues, or just to get some gil.
    Another big ticket item, Shards, Crystals, and Clusters. If you have a gatherer then you can get tons of shards and crystals just by being about level 30 and going to the few places that have just the Shard, Crystal, and a Pigment. Those along with the Ward skills and the lovely Trait that gives an additional 1-9 extra on your next gather for the shards/crystals/clusters/pigments/other items that can't HQ, and you'll be able to put a good amount of them up for about 150-500 each depending on the item and current going price. One MAJOR thing to remember, your retainers can ONLY sale 20 stacks of items at one time and still max stack at 99 not the 999 you can for normal items, however the Shards/Crystals/Clusters CAN be in stacks of up to 9999 for sale. This means you can farm it out to max and put that up on the MB for a good price and sell it all for one giant gil grab. Also do note that the vendor items like Iron Ore and such will eventually bottom the market out, if there's not enough demand for the item and too much supply then prices will crash. Moving to a different item is going to be helpful but others will also do the same, so it'll be a constant juggling of who's selling what and who wants to sell for just a tiny improvement and who wants to get the big gil grab from the sucker who wants to pay that much more instead of buying it from the vendor.
    I think doing this method is good for starting out, when you have next to no gil and want to get to around 100k to start things up, however it's not something you can do and sustain a few million gil. Getting a gatherer leveled will get you over 1 million on it's own, and if you want to get a crafter leveled then having the 3 gatherer classes all leveled will mean you have 75% of all the materials you'll need for just the cost of time and effort. The other 25% will be from mob drops so you can always get them from any combat class you want to play as. Now a final thing to note with gatherers and making gil, there are Unspoiled Nodes at lvl 50 and also at 60 and 70 that have a short time that they are active and it's just a single node that doesn't respawn for you until the next time that certain node will spawn. Those items are usually in lower supply since farming them isn't the easiest thing in the world as it's all on Eorzea Time so each node is usually a good hour in RL Time from spawning, some spawn more often but others tend to take a while before the next spawn. There is a nice site called FFXIVClock.com that tracks all those spawns and tells you when they are going to spawn. Not only that but thanks to player input they also can tell you which slot has which item so you don't have to guess or use 300 GP off the jump to reveal all of them.

    You're just selling convenience. And I think that's totally alright. It's the same as with music, movies and games. People do pay money for convenience. They don't go to piracy, because they don't want to pay money, they just do it if it's more convenient than going into a store and buying it there.
    And the market board is the most convenient way to get stuff there is. If I want to have something for crafting or a quest or anything else, I go to the board, pick the thing I want and don't care whether it would have been a few gil less if I want out of my way to get it elsewhere. But if you invest a little time and sell dozens of those stacks, it really pays off really fast.

    Honestly one of the most steady ways to get money for me is just selling glamour prisms.
    I was a 4 star crafter in 3.0- 4.0 had a mansion for my self and decided to move servers so couldn’t take most my Gil or had to consolidate it. A good way to eat some cash slowly would be crafting crafter turn in items for levels some people buy them in bulk to speed level their friends crafters although this method was only really prevalent during the beginning of a expansion considering a lot of people didn’t have lax crafters with best in-slot materia.

      So I make most of my money by selling the Stormblood Culinarian turn in items. Easy to make HQ and I think they sell well because each Culinarian recipe requires sooo many ingredients which take up precious bag space and I guess a lot of players don't want to carry around tons of cooking materials.

I was exploring a materia trick people were talking about on reddit that didn’t work and spent a fair bit trying it out because I wanted to check the math over a large sample by myself. I can talk about pricing another time. These items are not imo like others. Crafted items with less turnover and static demand is where undercutting by 1 is logical. These are commodities that both me and my competition do no work for so people just by them when they are cheap. I also, in my server find that flippers are common. People who buy an item from the market board to resist at a higher price. On an item I gather that it taking profit from me if I would just do the flipping instead but in a vendor item I can just feed them at the low price and if they can’t find customers at the high price it’s no sweat off my back. I’d rather make 5k 5 times in a day than 10k once with an items I have an infinite supply of. There are times a lower price makes it sell faster and times it doesn’t imo so knowing the difference is worth discussing. My crafted items are listed at 1 below like you are saying.

      It can take time. In the top right of the panel where you post be sure to look at pricing history. It will tell you how often you can expect it to sell. For example. Vendor crafting gear I can sell a piece let’s say once every 10 days at a profit of 10k Gil. Or once a day I can sell a stack of vendor food at a profit of 1k or twice a day I can sell vendor ore at a profit of 500. Those are all 1k a day in that example. If my goal (especially at the beginning) is to get my money back with profit quickly I want the ore and when I have all the ore I think will sell posted I add the food because it’s next fastest out of those 3. Then if I still have retainer slots and I’m starting to get a little more cash I want to invest I can grab gear to sell.
      All of this you want to be careful about patches so don’t invest in something if the live letters says next patch will be inferior to something new. This is mostly with leveling gear when they screw with poetics etc so people don’t need it. Ore is pretty safe as people level up crafters but right now for example, all crafters above level 20 may focus on ishhard so those may not sell often while that remains the fast wya to level.
      Ultimately watch that sale rate to know if it a actually going for those rates but that may help you understand why some of the items you pick are selling slower or lower than you had expected.
      Make sense?

I would check your server for the prices and selling frequency of the hand and land gear sold in kugane. It makes me 10-30k per transaction on my server and I have less competition but required I can go without a few hundred thousand while I wait. Flipping commodities is also good but takes practice and has risk so enter that market with caution. I’m starting to think desynth would be a last thing to check on this list but don’t have the numbers to back it up yet.

      I can personally vouch for it making you some money, but it is best to farm them out and craft them yourself. A level 30 gatherer and level 30 crafter can make the first sets of colors and usually 2-3 of them will be popular and in demand. This will maximize your profits and only cost you some time. I keep at least a full stack of each pigment on hand just cause I am the dye monger for my FC, I'm an omnicrafter omnigatherer and while many of my FC are rich enough to not care, they still know it's good to just have me craft the item than give the gil away to a vendor or give it to another player through the MB.

    • @Ren_nr
      @Ren_nr 4 роки тому

      @@Pretz_Starwind The vast majority of vendor-sold dyes cannot be crafted. Conversely, most crafted dyes cannot be bought from a vendor (the exceptions being soot black, snow white, royal blue, hunter green, and morbol green). You also need to consider the opportunity cost of gathering the pigments AND the catalysts (each dye costs two crystals -- not shards, crystals -- to make). The cost is not just the time, but also the money you could have made using that time (or venture coin) to gather something else.

    • @Pretz_Starwind
      @Pretz_Starwind 4 роки тому

      @@Ren_nr The theory you have is that by taking time to farm the materials to make the dyes means I've list time to farm something else, correct? Then by that logic every single item on the MB should be over 1 million gil each cause if it took any time to farm out you could be farming out a mount or other drop item that sells for a million plus.
      Also as much as you can buy items off a vendor you would be amazed at the sheer amount of people who buy everything off the MB, even with the vendor 2 feet away. I have sold Copper Ore for 50+gil each cause someone was too lazy to take the time to go a few steps over and buy it from the vendor at 2 gil each.
      And any item that only has an investment of time as a cost isn't something you should be charging gil for. This line of thought that you must charge the going rate of any item for something you farmed a ton of it up for for free is why things have insanely high prices for items that are readily available and easy to craft.

      Failure in logic. Expensive mounts and minions are expensive because it's low chance RNG. They're rare. Most crafting materials are not rare. So if you're going to farm something *anyone* can get, make it what sells. What makes gil, but also what *moves*. Something that's 100k doesn't mean much if it sells once a week compared to something 25k that's every day.

    The under cutting prices advice is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. The market is high keep the market high. Only undercut buy one Gil. You make less money in the long run. If you’re still the cheapest buy one gil your stuff is going to fly off the shelf first anyways. The only time this doesn’t happen as if you’re trying to sell a stack and somebody only needs a lower amount of the item.
