    Years ago at Oshkosh there was a Chinese MiG-21 flying demonstrations and his take-off routine was to roll at full throttle until he got to one of the landing lights along the runway where he would light the afterburner. These are single stage units and they make a VERY loud explosive THUMP! when they fire up. I saw him take off all week and along the runway spectators weren't anticipating the explosion from the burner and small children were always being knocked over by it.
    One evening I met the pilot and mentioned to him about the little kids going flying when he lit the burner and he laughed and said he'd have to watch for that next take-off. Which he did and found it hilarious. VERY rude and crude aircraft that up close has amazingly rough construction...but they worked well enough to do the job at hand.

    Only the MiG-21 BIS produced 21k lbs thrust. The plane you're looking at probably only produces 17k lbs or even as low as 13 k. Man that's like $12,000 for an hours worth of fuel or $3 per second in fuel.

      @peerschulz2029 2 місяці тому

      @@Gurkani-xv7kn thats not an F-13. The F-13s were singleseat interceptors, not tandem trainers (nothing on this lines up with the F-13 except for the shockcone). This jet specifically is a MiG-21US model. Meaning it's a mid production model with newer flaps and avionics, but still with the older/basic R-11 engines, with about 13k Ibs of thrust. Later MiG-21UM models use the R-13 engines but these are rarer (and more readily found in Europe)

      The Mig 21 was the world’s premier fighter for 20 years. The F-16 was built specifically to beat it and a Mig-21BIS was actually as good in the horizontal and slightly superior in the vertical than an A model F-16 due to its insane thrust to weight ratio. Of course later F-16s perform better and have much better weapons and sensors.. the F-16 being at the beginning of its development cycle vs the Mig-21 being at the pinnacle of it.
      Mikoyan itself wouldn’t beat its own creation until the Mig-29.

    Holy cow this is Cavanaugh air flight museum!! I volunteered there for over half a decade. Man I miss Addison Texas.. that's also the airport I took my flight lessons from- monarch air flight school is right next to the museum-
    All the Russian planes were my babies I was in charge of.. I'm from Russia so it only made sense and yes I also adopted even the polish Iskra.
    This is a Mig-21UM originally polish if my memory serves me right that got repainted into Vietnamese colors though if I'm not mistaken Vietnamese were never delivered training versions strictly single combat seaters as they either trained in Moscow or China before being sent to their units. MiG-21 were used extremely sparingly and it is said that the kill loss ratio was actually in the MiG-21 favor of 4 to 1.
    Edit: small correction 🥸🇷🇺over 11,400 were produced from 1959-1985 or 26 years. So even if from 1966-1984 or 18 years half were lost that would mean over 200 aircraft per year as 438 were made annually. That statistic is made up and doesn't make any sense.

I think paying 50k for playground scrap is probably a bit on the high end - you might want to negotiate for a better price - like zero.

    There's a guy in Reno that could probably hook you up with all the pieces to get it airworthy...

    Lets see 4501 x $8.21 (California summer blend) is $37,000.00 per hour after you spend a million for the airworthiness certificate. I wonder if the DMV can help? And NO Jimmy, this would make a very small motorhome bus.

    I'm sure you know about the F14s that the Iranian's have but can't find parts for. They were purchased by Iran before the revolution but after the revolution the US put a ban on selling parts to Iran. I wonder if you could get a deal on 3 or 4 of them. 3 or 4 might make one flyable bird.
