Honestly this should come as NO surprise to anyone. The forecast for up to 10 feet of snow was given days ago.
Similar to the people that stay in their house during a hurricane then demand the fire department come and save them.

I learned when I lived in California, they don’t really check the weather there
Exactly. We even brought a generator for that reason. The people running into problems are casuals that came for a stupid Instagram post. They got what they deserve. I'm taking my ATV out tomorrow morning. Lol

Enjoy it. This is like old California. Might not see this again for years. We should all be a little appreciative at we'll have some water for a few extra months😉
Exactly! This is what I call "things getting back to NORMAL."
Way back in 1979 There was a big snowstorm and I got stuck in Tahoe also. Fortunately by the time we planned to leave the roads opened up. But seriously, this is normal weather up there. Shoudn't be a surprise to anyone. The drought has made people forget.
Yo I was working at sugar bowl that Winter.
@@johnh4143 - I just might have skiied at Sugar Bowl during that trip. I'm not sure though. Actually, it was exactly this time of year also. Between Christmas and New Year.
Exactly. This is the way it was. Now everyone is screaming the sky is falling.
@AuthenticFallacy Get a perspective that is less short sided. In other words get some experience.
@AuthenticFallacy You know what trolling is.
I lived on the summit and have been snowed in for weeks at a time. Thats life there. Got to be prepared.
Hello from the Oregon Coast ! It is snowing again 7pm Monday 12/27 here in Florence, Oregon which is a very rare event. Temp 29 degrees. The sand dunes are covered with snow and it looks amazing. Our beach also has snow with the ocean waves crashing it is beautiful !

Snow happens. People need to be prepared at all times. Even visitors. Make the best of it, it will be a few days.
Global warming got so bad that it was 77 degrees outside
Snow happens, but this kind of snow storm is pretty rare. I haven't seen that much snow and I live more up north where we get a good amount of snow in Winter.
@@blueflameSM but it happens............. its called being prepared
@@blueflameSM Sorry Jimmy, I was born and raised in the area, and this kind of snow happens on the regular. Granted, we haven't had a storm like this in a little while, but this storm reminds me of the ones we had when I was a kid. There are a lot of houses in Tahoe, mostly the older ones, that have a door to the outside from the second story. These doors don't open to balconies or verandas, and look really funny in the summer time, but they are so you can get out of your house when your front door is snowed in.
I miss having snowstorms where I live! We used to get actual snow on a regular basis when I was a kid and now we just get bitter cold strong wind and a light dusting of snow.
I personally live in Florida, and this literally doesn't even look real to me lol
@Tony Alston - The trash is in California and New York.

It also gets dark when the sun goes down

Happens often. It's just breaking previous averages so it's getting the attention.
Hopefully the local inns aren't raising their prices because of this situation and firewood is in abundance if the power goes out. It's also concerning that the 18 wheelers that supply that area aren't getting to their destinations

Lies again? Jamming of vehicles
Situation normal. A little more than usual for a couple days which is great, we NEED the water for summer.
Been in a blizzard like that - in Ohio, in 1977-78. That picture of the door with snow up to the top of the door, that was what my house was like. No power and for weeks after, Ohio had snowplow-made snow drifts 20-30 feet high. Weather was too cold for the snow to melt so it just stayed where the plows put it. All I can say is thank god we had a gas stove - it was the only heat in our house.
Yep. That's when we got snow.

I had absolutely no idea that it snowed out in the mountains in the winter time wow
That happened the first winter of my move to Tahoe with my wife and two kids. Twelve feet of snow pack that year. Quite a learning experience for us So. Calif. folks. My friends house was so buried in snow that you could walk right over it.
Not the worst place to be stuck. Looks like some people got an extended vacation.
Not a bad place to be stranded. I love Lake Tahoe!!
Welcome to Tahoe, years ago this was a normal way of life. To many flat landers!
I lived there back in 1990, it can snow every month of the year, of course snow triggers snowflakes, its a fact! Now i live in Alaska where i see six months of this.
Im one of the travelers currently snowed in at this area lol its a little frustrating that we cant go home but i also understand that the roads are not good and we can just chill in the hotel rooms

Prayers everyone; there stay safe. I live in Wisconsin where we get snow but its more like 30 inches a year. I heard Tahoe is amazing, but honestly that is not a place I would enjoy when getting over 30 inches snow. I was in Houston for Christmas and the temps were in the 70's- I very much enjoyed the warm weather. We did alot of walking one day walked ten miles at Houston Heights, Memorial Park and the Japanese Garden. Have a safe holiday in Tahoe.
I couldn't imagine 10 feet of snow..lol yikes. I'm from Ohio, the most I recall in my life time was maybe 4ft.
I remember back when accommodations around Kirkwood used to more or less give folks a free place to bunk if you got "stuck" there. Until everyone started doing it. Tahoe is a great place to get stuck, unless you were a Donner.
I drove through from Reno to California in the winter of '89. I'm lucky, it was early winter. I was raised in Minnesota, but that was something else again.

This happens all over the Country in winter. It's the Mountains a ski resort why are people surprised.
Bay are folk think the snow only exist at the ski resort.
Ooooh that's beautiful
I used to make a killing selling chains on weekends like that back in the ‘80s. I remember not being able to see out my bedroom window for months during most of my many winters in Tahoe.
This isn't the first time these kinds of conditions have happened there! People should pay attention to the forecasts because the weather services put out bulletins days ago.
They probably thought it was FAKE NEWS 😂😂😂😂😂
Bay are folk don't thing those bulletins apply to them.
@@xtc996 You're right, and that's why bay area folks are dealing with some of the highest crime rates in the country just in the last 2 years.

My first trip from the Bay Area up through the Sierra Nevada was 30 years ago, before the current extended drought. I remember looking up to see the plow windrows being 20 feet higher than the rental car. I can also remember the roadside houses with their entrances through the second floor, as the only alternative was creating noticably unstable tunnels to reach the ground floors.
we could only dream of that. sure would kill a lot of tics!

People take a chance on vacationing in the winter. Nobody knows what Mother Nature will predict. I feel sorry for truck drivers who get stranded transporting our food and supplies. No global warming here.
Being a Professional Truck Driver, they talked of the monster storm a week ago. But I'm a storm spotter also.

I remember coming back from a Christmas vacation in Florida, arriving in Phoenix and being told our shuttle to Flagstaff had been cancelled due to too much snow. Even in Phoenix at the time, the temperature was dipping into the low 50s. It took us a week, but we made it back home to the Navajo reservation. 😊

One reason people never watch the weather! Should know better and you got what you deserved by being stranded and not checking the weather!
The Donner Party knows a thing or two about how bad it gets in the Sierras. On the brightside, it's fantastic news for skiers and snowboarders. Stay safe out there, y'all 🍻
Stay...there. Winter wonderland. Enjoy the season. Neighbors help neighbors.
I love the guy who said “I know how to drive in snow.” LOL! No dude, unless you have a snowmobile you aren’t driving any non-specialized vehicle/truck/Jeep/whatever through 4+ feet of snow. 🤣 A Jeep Rubicon with a lift and snow tires is going to get 3’ to 10’ and you’re shoveling from there.
Did these people really think that they would casually drive back home after a snow storm?
People don’t look at the weather forecast anymore nowadays?!?
.Why would you get out in that weather if you absolutely didn’t have to?!?
. People, people, people we must use common sense and be prepared!!!
Anyone living and traveling in that type of weather should be prepared to hunker down in their cars for several days, common sense!
They all on their phones. Too busy to even drive in their lanes, much less pay attention to advisories or common sense.

Stuck in Reno, riding the storm out.
Around 2002 we got snow like near by at the Marine base. We all built a snowboard ramp and literally had to tunnel our way out of the barracks.
Meanwhile in central midwest no snow yet, had 70 degree days...
