    There is people with mental health issue everywhere not only in the US but it is only iis the US that this kind of tragedy happen. The problem is clearly that"s it is too easy to get a weapon in the US; if you can"t see that then it's hopeless.

      The problem is that mental unstable people can get weapons. But the problem is that we can't fully stop with the law. Assault rifles weapons are banned in Europe with the only exeptions being Russia and Switserland but that didn't stop the terrorist in France to commit crimes in Paris while using assaultweapons as tools to commit their crimes.

    I can say, as a Brit, the idea of ever being shot (especially in a school of all places) has never ever crossed my mind. It isn't even on my radar as a potential threat. It's terrifying to look at these people, who are my age, talking about bullet-proof cabinets and nightmares.

      The UK/Great Britain is weird when it comes to guns and violence. The safest parts of the UK/GB have the least strict gun laws. NI allows hand guns and concealed carry, IOM and the Channel Islands allow hand guns and have never had gun crime. The UK in general has far far higher violent crime rates than most countries in Europe. Countries such as Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Italy etc etc which allow civilian ownership of semi autos such as AR-15s (with licences) have violent crime and mass shooting rates far lower than the UK. Violent crime is caused by a combination of social inequality and lack of mental health care. Not just the guns/weapons you can own.

      Michael Higbee he is someone who is TROUBLED as per recent life events. Mental health implies a diminished capacity to formulate common sense decisions in a LIFELONG way. This person reached the en$ of his rope and acted out in the most horrendous way. It’s NOT THE SAME. We all are a little bit ‘crazy’ in some aspect of our lives. If u are working in a thankless job for years and work only because it pays the bills and one day just quit, to a coworker who knows your situation and how u have nothing, it would SEEM crazy. There's a difference between defending yourself & killing innocent teens. The shooter was 19 in my opinion at that age there is no reason for anybody to have or own a gun. It's all about what ur intentions are. Also, the victims were teens that at that moment were scared to death. So ur saying teens should be allowed to carry a gun? That's not going to fix anything. That's not the solution that's the problem.

    May I just note that it's not all mental health... in Europe we also have a lot of mental health issues that we're struggling with, but school shootings are very rare here. Disallowing guns won't fix mental health issues, but it does make your schools safer, it saves lives of dozens of kids and teenagers that aren't getting shot. Fix the mental health issues but do not ignore or deny the influence of guns in this story please. Just look outside of the US for once, take a look at other countries.

      @comment936 6 років тому +140

      louiseglasgow once you look at statistics for numerous different gun related topics you realize that gun control won't stop anything. The main problem is violence in general and when you try to take away civilians' rights to defend themselves you are making violent people more comfortable with committing evil acts because they know no one will stop them until police arrive and at the point the damage has already been done. So that's why this video isn't the best to make a judgement on this topic.

      Modern-day protests typically don't lead to legislation reform. They are good are raising awareness by making news cycles, but that's really it. They start a conversation. Legislation likely won't be imposed as a result of the march. However, I understand that these students are emotional and want to do something.

    • @dannylewis1539

    • @johnnytaylor2122
      @johnnytaylor2122 6 років тому +8

      What's being protested? We already have strict gun laws and far more lives are saved as a result of the 2nd amendment than lives lost. This event is tragic, but you can't save every life. Nothing will change because the change they want is already here. If they're protesting a ban of the 2nd amendment, then it will be far more catastrophic than legislation currently imposed and to argue that the 2nd amendment should be rescinded is to say that you don't believe in human rights and that the government can redact any "right" granted to the citizens at will without push back (because we're now unarmed).

My parents over the years brought me out of my comfort zone, and I’ve be come very knowledgeable on this topic. Most people don’t have that luxury and are often bullied. Then this other student and I had to get into some stranger's car because it "wasn't safe" for us to wait outside of the building. The reason this happened is because someone escaped a mental institute and had a gun and was walking around near where the school is. Like.... I was waiting outside of the school for maybe 15 minutes because I had no idea what was going on. I figured it was just another drill so I could've been shot because no one wanted to fill me in.

    I don't understand how people can still defend the idea that guns aren't the problem and that people are. Like seriously, don't you guys have figured out or understand that school shootings occur way more often in the US than anywhere else in the world ? And you know why ? Because other countries don't allow people to bear arms, and especially no automatic weapons. I've lived in Europe my whole life, in different countries of it, and I've never have witnessed a single school shooting as dealdy as the one that occur in the US ! Not a single one !
    Also, the idea of implementing more controls on who buys weapons, how can you seriously achieve that? You know that your mental health state can vary with time ? Like one day you're okay and maybe at some point in your life you'll be in a depression, and might want to take the gun you legally obtain to release all the pain and stress you feel inside. Well, nice one, you are able to make a lot of damage because you have the right to bear a gun.
    You guys should open up your eyes and realise that your second amendment and the way you absolutely want to defend it with your guts is completely insane.

    As an Australian, i have never met anyone who thinks that the answer to gun violence is more guns. i feel sick when i think of the fact that if we had the same laws, this would be a fear for every time i go to school. i feel safe when i go to school because there has not been a single school shooting in Australia in my life time. We still have guns for things such as trap shooting, but they are so rare I have never been anywhere near a gun. You can protect yourself in other ways, you can still enjoy your hobbies, the only thing that is impacted is the access murderers have to their chosen weapons. Educate yourself about the statistics around this issue. For all those who think mental health is the issue- sure, fix that. But in the meantime, gun laws are proven to work. Mental health is important, but removing guns is easier than removing illness.

      I don't see why you need guns anyway! I had been thinking about this situation, banning all guns would be amazing but because of how many guns there are in the US, I think it would be pretty unlikely to be able to retrieve them all. Only military people need guns. If guns don't get banned, to be able to buy a gun, there should be a similar system to being able to drive a car. You can't drive straight away. Firstly, you need a provisional license. Secondly, you will need many lessons to practise and to learn all the safety rules about being on the road. Thirdly, when you've had enough practise, you take a theory test. You have to get a certain score to pass. If you fail, you take more lessons and do more research on it. Fourthly, once you pass your theory test, you can then take the practical test and you can't drive a car until you've passed your practical. When having a car, you have to pay for insurance!

    I’m sorry if I’m being offensive but the girl who said my previous quotation and said about it’s the person behind the gun, yes it may be, but if you take away the gun you take away the possibility of danger, the mentally ill person can’t do as big damage without the gun, therefore safer. It just makes me mad, I’m 15, live in London, do army cadets, I know how to load, unload, disassemble and reassemble a rifle, and we do all this without many injuries ever, in the last 100 years that my school has used rifles, the only injuries are when the bullet casing come out the chamber and it hits your hand or something and causes a slight cut, so if we can be trained at 13-18 how to use rifles in any way possible, then you can train anyone to do the same, and if they fail the test for it, or psychiatric test, no gun. But it doesn’t matter about the person behind the gun, if there’s no gun at all...
