"These kids are kinda angsty" lol probably because they survived a school shooting? Cmon now
RepEvox to survive an incident that means you have to have been involved in the incident itself, come on now
Alec I wasn’t in Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped, so does that mean I survived a nuclear explosion? No, no it doesn’t.
david hogg wasnt on campus at the time of the shooting
@@RepEvox how naive are you
@@13starsstrong97 He was.
There is people with mental health issue everywhere not only in the US but it is only iis the US that this kind of tragedy happen. The problem is clearly that"s it is too easy to get a weapon in the US; if you can"t see that then it's hopeless.
Guns arent the problem people are the problem.
Alex Barber did you even read the comment??
Alex Barber Mental health is a problem in all countries yet we’re the only one with school shootings. Explain...
lup 1 ^
The problem is that mental unstable people can get weapons. But the problem is that we can't fully stop with the law. Assault rifles weapons are banned in Europe with the only exeptions being Russia and Switserland but that didn't stop the terrorist in France to commit crimes in Paris while using assaultweapons as tools to commit their crimes.
I can say, as a Brit, the idea of ever being shot (especially in a school of all places) has never ever crossed my mind. It isn't even on my radar as a potential threat. It's terrifying to look at these people, who are my age, talking about bullet-proof cabinets and nightmares.
You have to worry about being stabbed and acid attacks.
Too bad you have to worry about stabbings and acid attacks lmfao
The UK/Great Britain is weird when it comes to guns and violence. The safest parts of the UK/GB have the least strict gun laws. NI allows hand guns and concealed carry, IOM and the Channel Islands allow hand guns and have never had gun crime. The UK in general has far far higher violent crime rates than most countries in Europe. Countries such as Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Italy etc etc which allow civilian ownership of semi autos such as AR-15s (with licences) have violent crime and mass shooting rates far lower than the UK. Violent crime is caused by a combination of social inequality and lack of mental health care. Not just the guns/weapons you can own.
The issue is blown WAY out of proportion. 120 deaths a year is not enough to ban ANYTHING
as an american in the most armed reigon in america, being shot has never crossed my mind either.
Not every person who does these things have mental issues. Mental issues are brought up after the fact to protect the nra
Jaime Rivera you really mean to tell me nikolas Cruz didn’t have a mental disorder? Also the nra literally has nothing to do with this. They don’t sell guns, their sole purpose to defend the second amendment
Michael Higbee he is someone who is TROUBLED as per recent life events. Mental health implies a diminished capacity to formulate common sense decisions in a LIFELONG way. This person reached the en$ of his rope and acted out in the most horrendous way. It’s NOT THE SAME. We all are a little bit ‘crazy’ in some aspect of our lives. If u are working in a thankless job for years and work only because it pays the bills and one day just quit, to a coworker who knows your situation and how u have nothing, it would SEEM crazy. Doesn5 mean u are
Michael Higbee - Jamie didn't say that Nikolas Cruz didn't have a mental disorder, he said *not every person* who takes a gun and goes on a shooting spree has a mental disorder.
Someone who commits pre-meditated murder is mentally illed
Who just starts shooting people? Anyone who does that has a mental issue
Something like this school shooting almost happened at my school with two kids made a list of who they wanted to shoot, it was on the news. But it was stopped because people told
In ny highschool, there was a football game like that night when they wanted to and a lot of people didn’t come to the game and school because they felt unsafe
People should know that while metal illness does have connection to mass shootings, the procentage is very small - only 4 percent of any kind violence (in the US) is attributable to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or depression.
Where did you read that!?
In the U.K. You can have an air rifle or shotgun with a license. Is that not enough to defend yourself?
pakman184 "good luck concealed carrying that" who's the mental deficient here?
There's a difference between defending yourself & killing innocent teens. The shooter was 19 in my opinion at that age there is no reason for anybody to have or own a gun. It's all about what ur intentions are. Also, the victims were teens that at that moment were scared to death. So ur saying teens should be allowed to carry a gun? That's not going to fix anything. That's not the solution that's the problem.
I come from Norway, where guns and rifles are not allowed, and we have NEVER experienced any school shootings or other similar incidents. I don´t think I need to say anything else.
yeah but thats your country. the u.s. is different. you can't just say that if one thing works in one place it will work everywhere because it wont work everywhere.
Rikke you don't have 330 million people and a Constitution the was made around the 2nd amendment. Without the 2nd amendment we in us wouldn't have any rights such as 1st amendment the 4th amendment or the 14th amendment. Also the bill of rights backs that up also.
Australia haven´t had any school shootings since 1996, so saying that gun control won´t work in the us is bs. There would be no need for guns as protection if no one were allowed to walk around with them in their pockets.
Well now i look at it this way. Say Australia gets attacked by another country and invades, the locals are now defenseless or say terrorist attack and lets not forget the black market is everywhere
I'm from Norway were our military is subsidized by America.
I'm from Switzerland were everyone has guns.
May I just note that it's not all mental health... in Europe we also have a lot of mental health issues that we're struggling with, but school shootings are very rare here. Disallowing guns won't fix mental health issues, but it does make your schools safer, it saves lives of dozens of kids and teenagers that aren't getting shot. Fix the mental health issues but do not ignore or deny the influence of guns in this story please. Just look outside of the US for once, take a look at other countries.
Liebe Lotte, school shootings are rare here because guns are rare here. That's it.
exactly!!
I wished every politician looked at what ideas other countries are doing best and implement them here.
No one cares what you gun-grabbers think. Mind your own business.
How? firearms are entirely proliferated and if confiscations are attempted it would mean mass death of law enforcers and firearms owners.
never heard a gunshot or even seen an automatic weapon in real life.
i'm an 18-year-old australian at university. this should speak for itself.
It doesnt, but dont worry about it because its not your problem nor your freedom.
Same bro. Same.
Hold up. Just checking. You know a semi-auto was used in the shooting not an auto, right? You know the difference right?
Ya, but the accessories that make them auto aren't banned.
All sorts of things can be used to alter the rate of fire not just bump stocks.
Banning guns completely is just dumb, you need self defense, but their are more restrictions needed
You don’t need an AR for anything.
mr clean no, a pistol can do that
@Xander Bucher Well you see... Firearms are protected by this little thing we have called the constitution. You ban all guns, that's gonna spark another civil war, or at the very least create a huge black market issue.
@Xander Bucher Fuck sorry that was meant for Someone, Yet No One
No more restrictions are needed. Shall not be Infringed.
Who else went right to the comments?
EDIT: Uh.. where did all these likes come from..
Jason Smith
Everybody who went to the comments.
Duh.
I went to the comments because in the first 5 minutes the kid's logic was flawed and they had 3 contradictions and then the people watching had 2 contradictions.
I did, I was sure they were going to be filled with societal and firearms "experts" (what a shock, they were)
If violent games make you a school shooter does Dr Mario make me a doctor?
Brian Juarez exactly. People just looking for something to blame
Josh yah but i also think if you feel like killing people, of course youll like to play violent videogames. Its like if someone like math, they most likely like math games
Does playing a star wars game make you a Jedi?
Brian Juarez If a six year old is allowed to play GTA, you think that won't impact their learning and their sense of morality?
G J I played GTA San Andreas when I was around 7 on the original XBOX and now I'm about to graduate from HS planning on going to Texas A&M and getting a degree to become a Veterinary Physician, so no I don't think it will affect them that deeply.
I appreciate that Madi had the courage to have a different opinion. However, I think she needs to do more research into this topic. I heard a quote that really resonated with me. "Mental health is a global issue, but the abundance of school shootings are unique to the USA."
Because we have a constitutional right to own firearms. This right ensures a balance of power between the Government and the Citizenry.
The government have tanks, fighter jets, superior guns, professional training, and atomic bombs. What the heck are civilian weapons going to against that?
Rookie Ranger: the constitution only talks about firearms... lets ban the amo then... problem solved!

gotexo lol
It’s so hard to wrap your head around this watching from another country, but every country has its culture, history and issues, that are harder for outsiders to understand.
louiseglasgow once you look at statistics for numerous different gun related topics you realize that gun control won't stop anything. The main problem is violence in general and when you try to take away civilians' rights to defend themselves you are making violent people more comfortable with committing evil acts because they know no one will stop them until police arrive and at the point the damage has already been done. So that's why this video isn't the best to make a judgement on this topic.
Comment: totaly false and USA is the proof of that! You have more guns than anybody and still one of the highest level of crime... Gun control works in UK, Japan, Canada, Australia and many other places ... why not in USA.
MBO MBO First of all Canada has a ton of guns, second of all the UK has had more terrorist attacks so frequently and more and more acid attacks I would honestly hope that guns came back smh
The US already *has* gun control.
MBO MBO for the ratio of land mass and capita, your assertion falls flat. Also its flat out not true. But since you dont live in the U.S.A. its not your problem nor your freedom.
Ban schools.

Treat guns like cars. Before you can legally obtain or operate one, you need to be taught/trained, evaluated for medical capability, and tested for safety purposes.
sandwichHLP wait...incoming amendment 443 - right to drive vehicle wo licensing
Yep, and when somebody decides to run over a bunch of people, we can create car control laws!

second amendment kids
Elihand123 you obviously dont understand what the second amendment is priving that you are just part of the problem. What an embarrassment. I hate the stupid population in this country. They think they know history but if they did they would no that gun restictions are needed
Always hesitant to click on these videos because I know Madison's opinion will make me mad.
She’s deffo a republican
Look, I get it. Her opinion makes you mad and you disagree with it. But what you did you expect? Everyone wasn't force to say one, they spread what they really think to you, me and everyone. I'm not saying that you implied that, but I'm saying what do you expect?
she makes me SO mad in every video that has anything to do with those kind of things..
She’s one of the only people in this video willing to listen to both sides so thank god for her. The gun owner is one the most infuriating one.
Maddie, sweetheart, she was not answering her question, if you actually listened to what that woman was saying, she was by far not answering her question
Exactly
Diana Munoz in what way? she said there was serious reform needing to be put into place.
Well she also supported Trump in a reaction video. What are you expecting haha?
It really bugged me at 8:45 how he said “you don’t have the life experiences” they just went through a school shooting. Shouldn’t that be experience enough ? What more is he claiming to know than these brilliant kids
I said this to my mom's bf and he said "But adults have seen marriage and are more educated." To quote a badass, we call BS
Getting shot at doesn’t make you a gun expert.
That Guy Allen Adults have seen the Assault Rifle Ban of 84’, and how after that ban. People started buying more rifles than the last 30 years. And guess what, that didn’t cause more crime or shootings. In reality when the public is well armed, then the amount of shootings go down.
Probably the knowledge of guns and common sense
@@chepeolvera8057 ur stupid without guns there will be no gun violence its common sense
I was getting frustrated hearing some of them saying that marching won't do anything, ever heard of the civil Rights movement?
Modern-day protests typically don't lead to legislation reform. They are good are raising awareness by making news cycles, but that's really it. They start a conversation. Legislation likely won't be imposed as a result of the march. However, I understand that these students are emotional and want to do something.
Johnny Taylor perhaps typical protests don't cause change, but perhaps this *isn't* a typical protest . . 😏
What's being protested? We already have strict gun laws and far more lives are saved as a result of the 2nd amendment than lives lost. This event is tragic, but you can't save every life. Nothing will change because the change they want is already here. If they're protesting a ban of the 2nd amendment, then it will be far more catastrophic than legislation currently imposed and to argue that the 2nd amendment should be rescinded is to say that you don't believe in human rights and that the government can redact any "right" granted to the citizens at will without push back (because we're now unarmed).
Johnny Taylor um . . . Did you even watch the video? You know what, nvm.
Danny Lewis The Salt March comes to mind
Are we just going to ignore how law enforcement completely failed? So many red flags ignored...ridiculous.
Hannah Is Singing and the FBI
@Ja Wi you can experiment first 😂
The issue was with the school resource officer who was fired. The sherif also resigned or was fired I don’t remember.
@Ja Wi better be sarcasm
@Elmer F That is goddamn stupid.
the only gun control we’ve had was when apple changed the gun emoji.
Samantha Nuanes To the squirt water gun. 🔫😁
“What do marches even solve?” Girl!!! Have you not been paying attention in History class!????!
Gandhi March achieved freedom for India. But I get your point.
history buffs should answer what happens when government takes guns from its citizens and why exactly the right to bear arms was the 2nd amendment
oh and no, the australia thing is BS.
Everyone is bringing up the debate of mental health vs gun control. Why don't we do something about both??!! Both are problems in the country so why are we wasting our time debating about one or the other?? Solve both problems and make this country better!
Trevor Kunkle YES.
Totally.
You can definitely tell who supports guns and who doesn’t just from the way they talk about this
Christiana Williams you can tell who supports guns just by looking in this comment section! Really people?
@@oliverstvchannel6442, Nothing wrong with supporting guns and there never will!
gun's not the problem but it's the person who uses it? that's true, but gun gives that person the power to do so much harm compared to other easy to obtain weapons
jon smith you do know that there's more knives killing/violence than actual firearms right? Or the fact that there's way more guns saving/protecting lives then actual deaths.
Also did you forget even if we ban guns, it doesn't stop criminals from obtaining/using them or giving them out to nutjobs right?
jon smith - and extended magazines....
Anon Anon - on point friendo
Anon Anon guns are still more harmful than knives it would be 100% harder to go on a school stabbing spree than a shooting spree.
‘Crazy people’ is a dangerous term to throw around..
No offence but this isn’t really the thing that political correctness is important on
I guess it can backfire
Ikr. The radical left loves doing that
why
Crazy people is a stupid argument, there are crazy people everywhere not just America
17 year old Australian, never heard a gunshot in my life.
thats a good thing mate
They're actually quite soothing. It's like a firework, but way louder, and you can feel the compression in your body too.
Almost identical comment up above. Shill?
difference in cultures
14 in New Zealand, heard gunshots while in my backyard tryna hit cans, always been told to never point it at a person however
If restricting gun ownership doesn't reduce gun violence then why do countries like Canada and the UK have significantly less gun-related crimes compared to the US?
sweiland75 The U.S is 25th in gun related crimes behind France and Australia which have some of the strictest gun laws in the world
where have you got this stat from thon?
Australia banned guns and gun crime since than has gone up and is still going
sources pls
Where TF Is sticky literally google Australia homicide statistics.
And like Ben Franklin said: "Those who chose safety over liberty, deserve neither and will lose both."
"There's no way to stop this" says the only country where this regularly happens...
It happens in other countries as well.
Tony Corral: Not on a regular basis, but as outliers.
The US is ranked only 11th in countries with most firearm deaths and it ranks only 12th in countries with most frequent mass shootings.
crimeresearch.org/2015/06/comparing-death-rates-from-mass-public-shootings-in-the-us-and-europe/
Iambic Pentameter but we are not a second or third world country. We are not a war zone. We have the ability to create laws.
Iambic Pentameter. The statistic really FLAWED, your country is the third most populated country in the world, when you give percentage as a comparison, you will always get low value because you divide it by huge number. But surprise-surprise, you got 11th from that division.
“What do marches really solve?”

Francisco Rivera In Switzerland ever adult is required to own a gun and they don't have them. So tell me why then?
Francisco Rivera are country is the only country that doesn’t take shit form your country. Your country doesn’t hold a candle to us.
“What do marches really solve?” So history is not being taught in US schools anymore?
They be spending too much time in lockdown to learn anything
Pug Chick lol there’s standing up for yourself and then there’s literally ignoring what you’ve been taught
Marching doesn't do much for topics as divisive as this.
Hmm how should we stop guns..? WITH MORE GUNS! PERFECT talking about fighting fire with fire..
Get Steve crowder on here
Erik Galindo or colion noir
Lmao he would destroy their argument in a second
have an FBE Change my Mind 😁
Erik Galindo Steven Crowder Is A Full On Conservative... of Course he’s pro-gun... Ain’t he the same guy that thinks Socialism is the same thing as Communism
Erik Galindo
Yes! I would adore that!
They weren’t being angsty and ignoring her , they just wanted the question answered properly
EXACTLY
Or did they want a simple answer to a complicated question?
Jeff Jeffery so a yes or no question is a complicated question?
I'm kind of sick and tired of the whole mental health thing. It puts everyone who suffers from a metal illness into one category. We are not. We are not all the same.
Gaylemarie Easton EXACTLY.
Notice how she said "We"...
Would you agreed to not have a gun anymore so the population is safe from schoolshooting?
Gaylemarie Easton You’re right. It’s only some people with mental illnesses that are influenced into doing something like this. I have severe ADD and I don’t plan on shooting up a school anything soon, but that is most likely due to my upbringing. As a child, I hated any form of change. My parents over the years brought me out of my comfort zone, and I’ve be come very knowledgeable on this topic. Most people don’t have that luxury and are often bullied. Bullying leads to mass suffering. Not just mental illnesses.
You literally read my mind this is so true!
The most dangerous thing to happen in my school in my entire lifetime so far, was a stray cat entering the building.
Im in the UAE.
i'm from asia and when people hear loud shots they just assume it's fireworks
Aleksander or firecrackers
Yeah but that Stray Cat was a Tiger. I've seen the video of the Tigers swimming in the ocean and running around on a beach in the UAE.
Same exact thing happened in my school in uae man why a coincidence
The most dangerous thing that could happen in the UAE is the Indians getting fed up with the forced labor and overthrowing the sheikhs.
I remember when I was still in school. I had just come back from therapy which was across the street and I just remember the building being locked and the teachers refused to let me inside. Then this other student and I had to get into some stranger's car because it "wasn't safe" for us to wait outside of the building. The reason this happened is because someone escaped a mental institute and had a gun and was walking around near where the school is. Like.... I was waiting outside of the school for maybe 15 minutes because I had no idea what was going on. I figured it was just another drill so I could've been shot because no one wanted to fill me in.
The only drill we have are fire drills -The Netherlands
Same - Australia.
Same - UK
Same belgium
Same - New Zealand
Overall crimes rates in the US are significantly higher when compared to western Europe countries. And yes, their violent crime rates are decreasing as well. Source: www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Violent-crime/Murder-rate
Kinder eggs? No way too dangerous
Guns? Yeah we need to defend ourselves..........
Crunchy Banana we have kinder eggs if you do your research gun laws and gun control doesn’t work.
I don't understand how people can still defend the idea that guns aren't the problem and that people are. Like seriously, don't you guys have figured out or understand that school shootings occur way more often in the US than anywhere else in the world ? And you know why ? Because other countries don't allow people to bear arms, and especially no automatic weapons. I've lived in Europe my whole life, in different countries of it, and I've never have witnessed a single school shooting as dealdy as the one that occur in the US ! Not a single one !
Also, the idea of implementing more controls on who buys weapons, how can you seriously achieve that? You know that your mental health state can vary with time ? Like one day you're okay and maybe at some point in your life you'll be in a depression, and might want to take the gun you legally obtain to release all the pain and stress you feel inside. Well, nice one, you are able to make a lot of damage because you have the right to bear a gun.
You guys should open up your eyes and realise that your second amendment and the way you absolutely want to defend it with your guts is completely insane.
A Girl Has No Name, Automatic weapons are banned in the US, with the exception of people with specialty licenses and military personell.
Taylor Hatch but the girl in the vid said they can get mods to make it fully auto
A Girl Has No Name Preach!!! All of it!!!
Harry Eden +1
So... Let's say we take away guns.... the people who shoot up schools move on to a different weapon... What are we gonna do??? Ban every weapon... Take away our rights bc some other people messed it up for everyone else?? I can honestly envision our democracy slowly falling apart
Mental health isn’t the only reason for shootings
What are the other reasons?
Ethan Andrew adrenaline junkies , intoxication , fetishes etc etc
Bullying, hatred, jealousy, etc
Yea, most of it happens because of bullying in schools most of school shootings can stop if bullys stop
all of those are mental issues elysia
A sad thing is the shooter is usually a student who does these drills and knows what's happening during the lockdown and knows where the other students are hiding 😰so scary much love from Canada hoping you guys find a solution
thats a good point, all it really does is scare people needlesly
The motives of people that carry out these attacks don't go away even if you implement gun controls. Then you just have the example in Australia where buildings are targeted with arson.
Feeling so lucky to be an European right now....
Same
or Australian
I’m lucky I’m ca
I still love my nation.
Why?
Everyone who is arguing that they need guns to survive. There are other ways. Learn self defense or something there are other ways to solve issues than ending a life.
Total Fangirl honey self defense ain’t gonna stop a gun
So TAKE AWAY THE GUN
Until you get robbed at gun point.
A gun beats the hand , that's like fact , even in martial arts DESIGNED for urban combat like Krav Maga , they say that for you to be effective , you must have a gun

The aim was to have civilians as capable as the Military. We are not currently. The law should change, but not in the way you want.

A. Give every child a stick.
B. Give a few kids concealed sticks and stick training.
C. Take away the stick.
Are you saying take away the child’s stick or take away ALL sticks?
👏👏👏

Thank you. It's really that simple.
If the govnt and criminals have sticks and use them. What do we do of course take away the responsible citizens stick.
They banned bloody kinder eggs - but a 13 year old was recently allowed into a shop to buy a gun?!
Where TF did that happen?
So true

Calum Bowden I know all through the video he was making comments in how they will never change anything
The moment you find out the Sheriff wouldn't arrest problem teens so they could get a bonus checks due to "low crime rates". Then you find out the shooter was in that catergory..
I'm kind of mad when she kept saying it was just mental health problems, it's just not mental health, but it's one of the reasons
Mikah Jones he was mental he went to the school and shot random kids if it wasn't mental that he would have plan to shoot only certain kids that he hated but in this case it was a mental thing
The Moua Show but it's not the only reason
Moon Tales it's the main reason
Moon Tales then what are the others?
You can't always tell when someone is mentally unstable. There are things that just can't be discovered, and because of this more than just mental health is important. Not everyone who commit mass shootings can be classified as having mental health issues.
As an Eurpean I just dont understand this!!! Just BAN guns come on ... this is the Solution... it works everywhere else!!!!! I mean you can still get guns in countries with gun control its just muuuuch harder!!! Oh and did that old man really say Teens are selfish????? I mean omg :|
How would you ban guns?
icestar156 you just ban them like every other country that hasn’t had a school shooting since 19 hundreds..?
Helli 101 I completly agree with you. Are you guys blind? We don't have guns, we hardly have mass shootings. It's as simple as that! LEARN FOR GOD'S SAKE!
Helli 101 youre uneducated. we have a thing called the second ammendment that states civilians are allowed to have firearms of all forms to protect us from a tyrant government. so they wont act outside of the constitution because if they do we the people can restart government
Mrpunisher6 you do realize people with guns can't stop a government with drones and nuclear capabilities right? lol. militias might've been able to prevent that in the 1700s but this is the 21st century, that ain't going to work.
You need to be18 to buy a gun but 21 to buy alcohol???

MyAnanin // but who pulled the trigger?😒
MyAnanin and do knives, cars, poison, their own hands. I guess we have to ban those too hu?
Not really, the if the intent is there it will happen no matter what the means... and if they don't have access to one means then they'll just use another. Also it doesn't make any sense that these kids advocate for a ban when they're the ones who bully or let bullying continue... I try to see both sides but this makes sense... a lot of sense... and if you can shut me down and prove what I'm saying can't and won't happen, then do it... and I'll wholeheartedly support this...
Yeah then take the guns away from those people not every one else because then how are we supposed to defend ourselves
MyAnanin, and thee gun also allows us to defend our loved ones! and for our loved ones to defend!
Only in the USA.
I LOVE the old dude who said "You don't have the life experience" When THEY'RE the one who experienced a school shooting. I just LOVE the irony.
.
NateDaDank calm down bro it's a joke
NateDaDank He didn't mention any valid points. He essentially said nothing. He just kept going along the lines of "Oh you wouldn't understand, you're kids! You can't change these people's minds"
The fact that they live through school shooting means absolutely nothing. They don’t have the life experience to understand what the fuck they’re talking about that’s just a fact Dash they don’t understand that the second amendment is created to go against a tyrannical government. They are trying to remove our rights to fight for our country and they are rates to oppose the government that’s what they’re doing
@@sednastarling5748 I agree with you on the second amendment part.
As an Australian, i have never met anyone who thinks that the answer to gun violence is more guns. i feel sick when i think of the fact that if we had the same laws, this would be a fear for every time i go to school. i feel safe when i go to school because there has not been a single school shooting in Australia in my life time. We still have guns for things such as trap shooting, but they are so rare I have never been anywhere near a gun. You can protect yourself in other ways, you can still enjoy your hobbies, the only thing that is impacted is the access murderers have to their chosen weapons. Educate yourself about the statistics around this issue. For all those who think mental health is the issue- sure, fix that. But in the meantime, gun laws are proven to work. Mental health is important, but removing guns is easier than removing illness.
Preach
i Agree with you Emily C as i am from Australia as well, the only people i know who have guns are those who use them for sports or farms/hunting i don't understand the whole having a right to bare arms, mainly because even if you have a gun what can you do that isn't any better than the attacker. i just don't see how that works and i couldn't imagine going to school and fearing for my life
Maybe you should double check your countries crime statistics.
@Aidan Moretz: maybe you should double check... the US ranks 1st violent crimes www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Australia/United-States/Crime you are welcome!
Oliver D how many people live in Australia? How many people live in the USA? Kind of important
In Australia it tòok one mass shooting and our Prime minister took action. We have one of the strictest gun laws in the world now.
good, god bless you for doing it.
@lenny I, you live on an island with strict immigration.....
lenny l same in the UK x
Yeah and has it stopped homicides completely ? No criminals can get access to guns in Australia
Unfortunately it hasn't work, of all the gun owners then, 2/3 of them still have their guns.
Not everyone with a mental health illness is dangerous, this shooting has made an even larger dent in the stigma about mental health.
Ashley's Tale be quiet guns rule
Well it's hella not the guns talking to them
RepEvox people still make that connection.
I live in the Netherlands and here the only people who carry guns are police officers and military people on mission. Yes criminals still obtain guns, but it's way harder and there are less guns. And so there are less shootings. In the U.S, there are about 10 times more deaths by guns then in the entire Continent of Europe. So i guess banning guns does have an effect.
jasper koppelaar I live in Italy and here it's the same. Thinking about having to be scared of going to school is just absurd here.
Project Naiad i know right? I don't see the problem of banning guns it's not that hard
you're generous when you say 10 times, i'd probly guess more like 1000 times but hey, we live in a civilized world, they don't after all.
Does the weapon matter? Example: The Bahamas(Gun-Control) has 9 times the murder rate of Texas(Gun Heaven).
jasper koppelaar 300 million people, more than any country and Europe. Of course the statistics are gonna be skewed when you don’t use per capita stats
Annnnnnd 4 years later we had the buffalo shooting and now the small town in Texas elementary school shooting
"a good person with a gun would stop it" tell that to the deputy sheriff that was OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL AND DID NOT ENGAGE.

Every teacher should be this 'good' person. They should ALL be trained, aware, responsible and have a guns in some safe teacher available place in every classroom.
Eugene Kuznyetsov its literally the police's job to defend the public what are you talking about
An argument ive heard is: "If a crazy person has a gun i want to be able to protect myself"
To that I say: "If gun laws were stricter that crazy person wouldnt have a gun to begin with"
so its a mental health issue, not a gun issue
Brooklyn Miller to that I say: “Crazy people can make bombs and attack in other ways”
Brooklyn Miller yeh ok all good just travel back in time and make sure the scary ar 15 was never invented
Also if someone were planning to use a gun to break a law who says there going to get the gun legally in the first place there’s a thing called the black market you know.
Frank Marzegliano I think its both issues. Kinda funny how theyre switched: Guns are too easy to get and mental health help is too hard to get
“Law makers can’t change that”
Hello, I’m Australian, and our law makers did. 👋🏼🙄
I'm British, our law makers did after the Dunblane massacre 1996. We've never looked back. So glad to have grown up in a country that doesn't have to deal with this anymore.
The difference in the US is that they fought for their independence from an oppressive government, hence the 2nd amendment.
Rach227204 and it has changed neither of your violent crime rates (if you're taking into account the rate at which they were already decreasing) so 🤔

Can someone explain to me why you have to be 21 to buy an alcoholic drink in the US but only have to be 18 to buy a weapon
William Alena You are right, it is no use having laws at all since criminals are going to break them anyway.
Well it probably correlates with the fact that people can join the military at 18. In order to buy a handgun in some states you have to be 21. I can also imagine that some states require you to be 21 to buy any weapon, since we have so many different types of gun laws across the country.
Because you’re an official citizen at 18 years but your brain stops developing and “growing” until 21, alcohol affects the development of your brain, but you can’t consume guns.
THECJD actually you only need to be 13 to buy a weapon in the states
james ward-gwilliam your parents buy them not you...
To the man that said kids don’t have the life experiences to give input on issues like gun control- those kids in parkland, inclduing Emma, lived through a school shooting. Is that not enough? They have that life experience at age 15-18 when most baby boomers haven’t at 80. It’s our generation that is affected by this so we are going to be the generation to change it.
well when your gen. reaches that age ill be sure to look u up to see what u've accomplished
Lil Dill I won’t because my generation will be the reason how governments will become corrupt

I have mental health issues (Anxiety & Depression) but I don't want to be categorised with someone who goes around killing other people! There are so many different mental health problems in the world. We are not all the same!
Middleton Plays preach
Middleton Plays I have manic depression disorder. I don't want to be categorized with them either, but I would gladly give up the possibility of owning a gun for the sake of someone safety.
Middleton Plays yes, of course you're not all the same. But don't you think mental health should be one of the aspects determining who can get a gun?
Middleton Plays I don’t they said you are it’s just people with abnormal metal health issues that would take pleasure in taking somebody else’s life
I don't see why you need guns anyway! I had been thinking about this situation, banning all guns would be amazing but because of how many guns there are in the US, I think it would be pretty unlikely to be able to retrieve them all. Only military people need guns. If guns don't get banned, to be able to buy a gun, there should be a similar system to being able to drive a car. You can't drive straight away. Firstly, you need a provisional license. Secondly, you will need many lessons to practise and to learn all the safety rules about being on the road. Thirdly, when you've had enough practise, you take a theory test. You have to get a certain score to pass. If you fail, you take more lessons and do more research on it. Fourthly, once you pass your theory test, you can then take the practical test and you can't drive a car until you've passed your practical. When having a car, you have to pay for insurance!
Debates are debates, but if anyone here is actually of the opinion that video games or movies are the cause of these shootings, I, I... I just can’t.
I understand the argument that those people are making, I genuinely do. There are studies linking aggression to video games and also the whole argument of shooting games as "training". However, I do disagree with those arguments, because there is a much bigger problem in the form of guns.
I did a research paper on the issue for my G11 psychology, sociology and anthropology course. Whilst there may be short term aggression from playing violent video games, so far there hasn't been any proof that they cause long term aggression and/or violence
@@MayBee15 Exactly! Politicians just want something to blame so they can keep getting paid by the NRA.
But violent games and shows are correlated to it. I am a younger person myself. We have mental issues that need to be looked into first.
I will not say they are the cause of the shootings, but I will say they are perhaps contributing to that issue if someone who is mentally ill starts obsessing over what they saw in Grand Theft Auto.
I think something should be done about bullying in schools as well (given that many school shooters claimed to be bullied, and it is true that bullying is a real issue)
no, you need bullies in the world because if you do not have them people will grow soft if that happen o wait that happing know people are getting their feelings hurt from nothing so everyone hears what I have to say stick and stones may break my bones but word will never hurt me. stop being a show fleak the real world does not care about your feelings.

I’m sorry if I’m being offensive but the girl who said my previous quotation and said about it’s the person behind the gun, yes it may be, but if you take away the gun you take away the possibility of danger, the mentally ill person can’t do as big damage without the gun, therefore safer. It just makes me mad, I’m 15, live in London, do army cadets, I know how to load, unload, disassemble and reassemble a rifle, and we do all this without many injuries ever, in the last 100 years that my school has used rifles, the only injuries are when the bullet casing come out the chamber and it hits your hand or something and causes a slight cut, so if we can be trained at 13-18 how to use rifles in any way possible, then you can train anyone to do the same, and if they fail the test for it, or psychiatric test, no gun. But it doesn’t matter about the person behind the gun, if there’s no gun at all...
At least she understands to test everyone for if they’re fit for it
beautifully said.
Anya Charlesworth please look into the news story in China where a deranged man stabbed 30 people (I belive) to death. Each time someone goes crazy you call a good guy with a gun to stop him. Be the good guy with a gun. Take responsibility for your Safty. You can in this country!

The top ten countries for per capita mass shootings are European...
I’m really glad they included Madison’s point of view. Very open to hearing out both sides.
We have such a problem of hearing to respond but never listening to understand. It’s crucial that we start listening to each other. We’re more caught up in being “right” than we are about making progress.
Jen Stone when someone asks a "yes or no" question, and get a long-winded winding response, the question has not been answered. There's nothing to hear at that point, since the responder didn't listen or respect the original question to begin with.
Jen Stone Agreed. Even though I don't agree with her, it's still important to include.
There would have been no problem if she had answered no, so and so og yes, so and so. The problem are that se did not answer and then said a lot of random stuff to camouflage the fact that she did not answer! Thats a typical tactic that politicians get away with far to often, and more an more it seems.
If it’s the person behind the gun killing people then why give that person a gun?

I think it’s more of a general statement. On average teens don’t have the life experiences that adults do. They don’t have to pay taxes and most of them have never been in a position where they would feel like they have to have a gun. This is not true of course for the victims on this particular issue, but it’s generally true.

Yes, guns are just tools, and yes, mental health is an issue. But, you are allowing those people with mental health issues to buy guns in the first place.

Well he clearly didn't fall under the category of "good men"
like you said "if good man are allowed and can". That man was not a good man. And if not him, than his superior who gave him the stage order. So the quote "If good men are allowed and can, we can stop these situations" still stands to reason.
That man was terrified and i don't blame him. It's a shame that he turned his back on the school and the kids, but to be fair i'm certain no school officer is would expect or would be mentally strong to face a school shooter.

Idk but when somebody says "We should give the teachers guns" I only think of a next school shooting when the shooter found the gun of the teacher and uses it against them.
I thought the same thing too!
Or teachers shooting people
First of all teachers should keep their guns on them at all times, it should never be brandished in class or talked about. Second, if that teacher loses that gun their would be likely another teacher around the corner who has theirs. School are what are considered a “soft target” to a shooter because he will face little to no resistance.

In 1996 Australia introduced sweeping gun laws after a mass shooting. They had 13 in the 18 years prior. In the 22 years since they've had 0. Gun crime dropped by 50-60%.
"Criminals will still get guns" Why then, did this happen in Australia? Have all the criminals gone on holiday in Australia?
Hayden Lau I think you have to consider the population size. USA's 323.1 million to Australia's 24 million. Plus Australia is surrounded by bodies of water. Could have an impact on that. It's a lot harder to govern over a lot of people.
Hayden Lau where did you get these facts from?
ok first of all crime in Australia has been dropping for ever, most of the crimes in Australia are done by other means ie: knife blunt object.... ect.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Australia#Massacres ,that link shows a list of massacres in Australia. if you look and read through it you will find that there have been 12 massacres in Australia since 1996, (when the gun ban was put in place) there are shootings stabbings and car attacks in that list as well as some aboriginal related massacres way back in the day. now you tell me that there have been no massacres in Australia since 1996.

THANK YOU! Of course nobody is talking about the mental health aspect because of the rotten stigma around it. It makes me so sad
Jimin'sPinkHair I don’t really think it’s a stigma thing. There’s a stigma around talking about gun control depending on where you live. It’s just there’s no clear path to fixing mental health issues on country wide scale, whereas common sense gun laws are easier for people to imagine and talk about.
I don't think people even deny the mental health part (I don't), the gun issue is easier to grasp?
mental, guns have nothing to do with it, the guns never did anything, its the mental people who cause problems
