Not sure how they can say there was contact. If there was contact especially with a spinning 4 blade prop on the turboprop engine of the drone, you would expect a great deal of damage to the Russian aircraft.
Also the prop of the Reaper is located behind a Y shaped tail so it would have to be a very very TOP GUN pilot to impact the prop. I mean the geometry of how to impact the prop with the shape of a Su27 and leave the Su27 still able to fly back to its base would be the biggest stroke of luck, and that pilot needs to buy a lotto ticket ASAP.
If you search pictures of aircraft that came into contact with idling props it still looks like a giant set of claws tore through the plane that was impacted.
Not saying this is not the case, just pointing out that something does not make sense.
Also a drone can glide huge distances especially if at its cruise altitude even if the engine fails. No plane would just fall out of the sky due to a propeller being damaged or even being separated from the plane.
Next if the Su27 did impact the drone in a way to damage the prop and tail enough to force a crash the Su27 would not make it home. The rear section of the Reaper is the engine, and if you have not seen a plane crash the engine is usually in one piece. So if a plane hit that it was impacting the hardest point of the Reaper and would nave sustained huge if not fatal damage.
This smacks of US pilot either executing a maneuver the drone could not do and leading to an unrecoverable stall, or just plain and simple purposeful crashing of the drone by its pilot.

Agreed, the Russians didn't touch it. It was ditched intentionally or unintentionally. The Russians have already recovered parts, so it may be a intelligence coup if the US failed to wipe the software.
