    Hi Richard here from Point 65. We have reached out to the reviewer many times and also posted comments on the youtube clip that disappear. We just had another e-mail from an interested buyer asking us about this review. A leaking section is extremely rare. And if it is a manufacturing fault we will exchange it immediately under warranty.
    Leaks do happen if the worker is sloppy when removing the kayak from the mold. But over the last 20 years I have had less than 10 cases where this has happened.

    If it is a puncture from an accident (the plastic is very tough so would have to a major force) such a puncture would take 10 minutes to seal and is very easy to do. The same goes for any plastic kayak.
    The advantage with a modular kayak is that it would not sink as only the section with the hole would fill with water. A regular kayak would fill completely and sink.
    So again, we don't understand why this reviewer has mede this review so one sided and without allowing us to comment or exchange or repair his kayak.
    If you read the comments there are many who are happy with our kayaks and also comment with surprise that the review does not mention how easy it is to repair and more.

      Richard: Good to see your explanation of your product's material performance. I have a question for you: I'm an experienced kayaker and really like sit-on-top's for their versatility and simplicity. I'm 1.89 m tall and weigh 98 kilos (my inseam is 32 inches). I own an old beat-up ex-rental EXO Zippy kayak (10 feet, 100 kilo limit and 35 lbs carry weight) that I keep in Costa Brava Spain that I love but can't get one here in the US; in searching for an alternative I found the Point 65 Falcon. Am I too tall/heavy for the Falcon to use it in light chop (motorboat wake mostly in Los Angeles)? Any suggestions? I'm this >< close to ordering a Falcon but am concerned that I may be too big for it......I'm not afraid of an inch of water in the seating area but don't want to be overcome by a powerboat wave in Marina Del ray...

      Raye overlooks the fact that he drilled the crap out of a modular kayak attaching things that the kayak wasn't designed to have drilled into it. Every single hole drilled in that vessel is a hole that takes on water. Also he has that thing loaded full of stuff with even a 5lb weight in the back. By his the position of his legs in the kayak in the first min you can see that he's not a small guy and then he's loaded down the crap out of the yak. These kayaks have pretty unforgiving weight limits and this one is clearly "there".

      I looked at it. 70 lbs for an 11 foot kayak? No thank you. I guess it's alright if you are mostly still, fishing. For actual "kayaking" at 11 feet I would not consider anything over 40-ish lbs. The 13.5 foot Mercury GTX sit-inside I ordered weighs 55 lbs which is light for a touring kayak designed for up to 3-foot waves.

    • @DiamondHead2010
      @DiamondHead2010 4 роки тому

      @@gerardsmulevich6594 that’s fair and I’m glad you’re getting something that works for you
      I didn’t find the weight an issue at all, once I assemble it I put on the wheels and go right into the water, I like the stability and feel like I don’t move around too much
      I’m going to use for fishing and they just came out with a tandem middle section, which I can’t wait for.

    • @DiamondHead2010
      @DiamondHead2010 3 роки тому +1

      @@cometier hi there, I’m pretty happy with it and I have a few projects to add features to it too.
      I haven’t been able to take too many trips (just 4 total) due to quarantine but it fits what I am looking for personally:
      Portability and storage: it breaks down into two parts, which allows me to keep it in a standard storage area in my apartment. I can carry one piece at a time through my apartment without much issue.
      When transporting, I am able to have the kayak inside the suv with the seats down. I didn’t have to invest in a rack. I can pick it the night before without fear of some messing with it, or even run errands in between my fishing trip, away from the elements.
      When fishing, I notice on slim a profile it has. Only 31 inches width. The pontoon design is stable and after a learning curve, I can stand up and sit down pretty easily, it does take two feet to balance, reminds me of when I went stand up paddle boarding.
      One mod I’m working on, is retractable stabilizers from pvc. My goal is to fish parallel to shore and I think it will help.
      You don’t really need to stand and fish on this kayak though, the seat has an adjustable height, just know that the higher you have the seat the higher the center of gravity.
      It’s a win in my book because without a modular kayak, my options were a inflatable or origami kayak, which has more downsides for me.
      I should post some quick videos and once I build out my stabilizers, I’ll get out on the water more, so I can provide a better review then.
      Some add-ons for the future: a tandem section to convert to a 2 person, an electric motor, stabilizers, fish finder

      @@TackleAdvisors I researched the tequila and from what I've gathered it's probably Point 65's least successful design. Their new Falcon seems much better (too bad it's too small for me) but their sit-insides like their Martini GTX is a fantastic kayak from all user reviews I've read and demos watched. I called a few stores here in the US and several told me the Martini sells like candy, no returns.

    My (second hand) Point 65 North tequila was perfectly stable and safe on open sea, tested plenty of times on some 3.5 -4 m high waves. I frequently took it out for 9-10 km trips, nothing worrying apart from me occasionally getting sea sick, due to not seeing the horizon line between the waves. It may seem that your drain plugs aren't properly sealed, maybe faulty o-rings. That's a 50cent worth of repair to fix the problem. Or just completely seal it with silicone. I had numerous kayaks over the last 14 years. Out of all of these, the Tequila was by far the best compromise in terms of practicality (can be transported inside any car), lightness (each half weighs less than 14kg), versatility on any kind of water, ease of paddling, stability, direction on open water and wind, and even - yes- relative speed. As a plus I used to carry all my spearfishing equipment on it - which is both pretty heavy and voluminous. So, in my opinion, it's a pretty great entry level hobby kayak. And much more.

    • @TackleAdvisors

      What kind of waves were they? Swell? A wind blown chop along the shoreline of about a foot came over the gunwales. I'm 6' 200lbs so that may be a reason. But in 12 footers ooof a 32 center console I frequently run would be an adventure in those conditions

      Yeah. You're 100% correct. But this isn't really a serious kayak. But it's price tag borders on it. Would have been nice to have been rotomolded and more structually sound in that area. They sent me strips of the same pe that I melted in place using high tech....ahem...fire :) and that didn't hold. Betting the temp control of a plasti welder would have yielded a better fix.

    Old Town Vapor 10, 44 lbs., Sit in- but very large cockpit/opening (easy entry/exit)tracks well and is stable. A buddy bought one last Thursday $319. I'm on my 3rd season, rivers, creeks, lakes, ponds - all good. Best 300 I ever spent!

    • @gerardsmulevich6594
      @gerardsmulevich6594 4 роки тому

      Does your Vapor fit in the back cargo area of your hatch-back or SUV? Point 65's are the best option out there for portable yet "normal" performance kayaks as far as I can tell. I was going to get the Falcon Solo but I weigh 212lbs ( 6'-2 ) and thought that was too close for it's buoyancy limit. I ordered a Mercury GTX instead (Sit inside), arriving first week of December (2020).
      For any of you living in Europe looking for a GREAT sit-on-top that's LIGHT and FAST and very inexpensive (less than 300 Euros new) I strongly recommend en EXO Zippy 1 (Italian design...awesome!). I own one that I keep in Spain where I spend every summer (I live in the US) . I bought it used ((VERY used) from a rental company for $150 Euros and paddle in the Mediterranean with it. I wish they were available in the US. It's just 27 inches wide, 10 feet long and 34 lbs. You get wet no matter what. I get the cockpit FULL of water 1/2 km from shore ... waves just crash over it. No problem at all. The polyethylene hull is sealed air-tight and will not sink. the yak rides smooth even flooded to the gunwall (edge of cockpit).
      It's spec says weight limit 220 lbs (100kg) and I used it weighing 230lbs a year ago...just fine!

    I own 6 Point 65 boats. 2 Martinis, 3 Mercurys, 6 midsections and a Rum Runner. None of my boats have that flex in the plastic. They are all very solid and thick. It looks like you have a defective unit. If you still have it, Contact the company and inform them of what happened and this video. Im sure they will take care of you. They dont want the bad publicity. This is one of 6 different versions of their modular boats. This one being the smallest. Not really meant for big boys like us, in my opinion More for small men, women and children. Its a tiny boat. Im sure you were frustrated. I would be too. Richard is the owner of the company and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Ive spoken to him before and he was extremely friendly and helpful. Dollars over donuts that he will take care of you. Tell him you want to like the line and that you will make a new video review after he replaces the bad rear unit. Remember, Sheet happens. Most of everything we own is made in China. Even that prick Trump has his crap made there. You just got stuck with a unit that wasn't properly turned in the roto mold. Also, the fact that these are experimentals. They invented a half dozen boats that do what they shouldn't. Come apart. Give them another chance and go for something like the Martini for fishing. great tracking and rudder system. Something I think should be a requirement when fishing. Also, a tracking fin. Im one of their biggest fans and it was because how they took care of me. Good luck to you. I hope it works out and you are able to honestly say something nice about the experience after its resolved. One last point, The holes are a common point of leakage in any kayak. This is an unfortunate review. I understand this guy is disappointed, but anyone who owns one of these kayaks will notice that this one looks awful. How many holes have been drilled into it? You even have an open hole in the rear where the flex rack used to be.... no wonder it leaks! Also, it looks to have been left in the sun for months (maybe inside a car?). The color and the flex of the material do not look normal. As to the kayak, I bought mine because it comes apart so I can transport it and store it easily. Period. No, it's not the fastest kayak I ever used, but it does what it says on the package. I can fit it in my car, then unload it and be on the lake in 5 mins. If I had more space, yes I too would have bought something cheaper.

      Hi Debbie,
      I'm a fishing centric channel so that comes with the territory :)
      In terms of how it is as just a kayak. It has to be somewhat stable for me to trust it not to tip with a bunch of gear.
      It's tracking isn't all that great. But if you're goal isn't to cover tons of water to get somewhere it's fine. If exercise and being on the water is your goal it's great. It's very convenient. (It's remained in my SUV since posting this video)
      I can be on the water in under 3 minutes from park, drag to snap together.
      I'm 6' and 190 and it supports me perfectly.
      It's a little cramped but it's only a 10' kayak.
      For a recreational yak. I'ts OK. But the real draw is the convenience of the two parts. I bought mine for around 550$ through a price match from Austin kayak when it first came out (the new version with the keel and inflatable seat)
      I would assume if you added a third piece it would track a bit more true.
      If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
      Thanks!

      Tackle Advisors no one is forcing you to go out on a defective kayak that had an issue from last year! I didn't see you paddling towards towards the shoreline as if your life depended on it, good thing you carry that fanny pack to keep you afloat! Why don't you " Advise" yourself an actual fishing kayak instead of that barely floating thin piece of plastic! lol!

      The key is to remain calm in life threatening situation. I'm still mad that you didn't stay within 100 yards on our first time out........ LMAO
      Don't make fun of my fanny pack....without the 80s it may not be a thing.

    Honest Review? come on. there are cracks around the scupper holes obviously causing the boat to fill up. Repair them already. And how much does this guy and all his gear weigh? As to tracking, it's a short boat. don't blame the boat for irresponsible ownership.

    Terrible idea to wear a camera on one's head, try telling a story, and film.
