    I just purchased the Hottop KN8828B - 2K+ and did a search on youtube for info about the machine and roasting techniques and I found your channel. I instantly became a subscriber. You speak very clearly and the explanations are very easy to understand and of great value, specially to people new to roasting. Job well done.

    Really enjoyed and appreciated this video! I am looking to take the leap into coffee roasting at a prosumer level, but I have had a lot of trouble finding useful information on which drum machines are good to get started with. Hottop seems to make a really convincing unit for roasting a large enough quantity of beans to fill my hopper at a time, I definitely see this machine as a valid option.

      @@CoffeeRoasting thank you! I guess if anything is this a roaster you could recommend above others to get started and prepared for the eventual jump to professional roasting. I am only at home as of now, but in the near future I hope to open a shop, so is this a decent machine to practice on before jumping into professional hardware? Or is there a different machine at this price point you could recommend?

    great video! looks like a great upgrade to my Behmor, which has served me well but I'd like a lot more precision in my roasting

      Thanks to the positioning of the thermocouple and the separated control for airflow and heat, it indeed gives you a lot of control on the roast. If you want to know more about the machine just come back to me anytime.

    Great video. Question.... should you be using bean probe temperature or the exhaust temperature to measure your charge temperature?

    • @CoffeeRoasting
      @CoffeeRoasting  Рік тому +1

      With the Hottop it doesn't really matter too much. Both sensor are located quite close to each other. I usually use the BT with the Hottop (just for your info when working with my profiles). But you could use ET as well for the charge temp. Just make sure you stick to one and always use the same. For measuring during the roast, I always use the BT.

    Good video. I like you way of presentation. If I buy this roaster it woud be from Roast Rebels. Are you planning to make more live roast video's with the Hottop-Artisan combination?

    • @CoffeeRoasting

      Thank you for your nice feedback. Yes, I am planning a series on the different functions since Hottop and Artisan is a combination, that works great together.

    Hi, Thanks a lot for another great video. Is there any better machine close to the professional ones for home usage or starting a small business? Where would you buy it? I am from Czech republic and nobody seems to be offering it here locally?

    • @CoffeeRoasting
      @CoffeeRoasting  3 роки тому +2

      I could recommend either Hottop or Aillio Bullet. Both of them are great for learning roasting. The Bullet can be used for small batches thanks to the 1kg capacity. Hottop is great for developing roast profiles for the production roaster.
      You can get both of them with us. Shipping to Czech Republic is free.

    Would this be efficient in roasting enough 12oz bags to sell at local farmers markets? How many 12oz bags could you roast in say 1 days work?

    • @CoffeeRoasting
      @CoffeeRoasting  3 роки тому

      Do I get it right, that 12oz is about 340g of coffee? The capacity for 1 batch is 300g green coffee, which will lead to around 260g of roasted coffee per batch. A batch will take about 15min + 5 min cooling + 5 min between batch on the hottop. So, in an hour, you could roast around 2 bags of 12oz coffee. If you want to use the roaster for small batch commercial roasting, you might have a look at the Aillio Bullet as well which has a larger capacity.

    Does the hottop log a turn around point? Also, how easy it to scale for larger batches? Thank you for the video, by the way! Im looking to learn profiles and develop them on commercial scale. Your videos are awesome. Cheers from California.

    • @CoffeeRoasting
      @CoffeeRoasting  3 роки тому +1

      I don't fully understand your question. Since the Hottop is measuring the BT, there is a turning point as well. The Hottop itself doesn't log anything at all, but if you connect the roaster to Artisan, it's tracked. Since you want to learn and develop roast profiles on the Hottop (which for it is a great machine), using the Software is a must. The machine will give you a lot of insights on the beans and roast profiles. You can never to 100% copy a profile from one machine to the other - but with the information, you get from a small drum roaster, it will be quite easy to develop the roast profile on your production roaster.

    What temperature do you pre-heat the roaster to before adding the beans?

    • @CoffeeRoasting
      @CoffeeRoasting  4 роки тому +2

      It's depending on the beans. Highly grown and dense beans at about 160°C lower grown beans and less dense beans at about 140°C Monsooned Malabar at about 120°C

      If connected to Artisan, you could immediately start the next batch. But you can't do cooling and roasting the next batch at the same time, so you would need to wait for 4-5 minutes, until the previous batch is cool.
