Hello I just got my Hottop KN-8828B-2K+ roaster. When I connect it to my laptop via the supplied USB cable it says disconnected. What can I do to connect them ?
The most common issues are: - not the right USB port chosen - you will find a video on that in our challen - not the most actual Artisan version (some were buggy but quickly fixed) - the USB cable is not good. Try another one - as Mac user, the connector between notebook and USB is somehow not working on this machine. Try another one - you have electrical interference. In most cases machines like vents that were plaeced close to the machine were causing electrical interference and disturbed the connection Please let me know, if any of those helped.
Ok so I found that I have to install a usb driver which was not explained in the manual that came with the machine .. it’s something you have to dig deeply to discover
So it looked like when you added the beans, "charge" was marked automatically. I'm finding that sometimes happens, but not always. Also, when you finished the roast and ejected the beans you simultaneously marked "drop". But can't that be done automatically? It seemed at first this was happening with my Hot Top setup at first, but not now. Doesn't Hot Top report a drop signal to Artisan? I prefer nearly all beans to be roasted at least a few seconds into second crack (unlike what you are doing) and would like to accurately record the time into SC. It's hard to do when you have to manually click on "drop" after ejecting.
The roaster doesn't send a signal, Artisan is detecting if there are unusual drops in the temperature. If you want to be in the safe side, you better mark the events manually
You can use a standard profile. In general with Decafs, you should have a bit a lower preheat temperature und be a bit more careful with heat in the first part of the roast (but not too low to prevent baking). Decafs look much darker which can be misleading so you can go for a bit a darker colour also for the roasted coffee.
Thank you for the tutorial, but i have a problem with my hottop, when i want to finish the roast i press the botton drop and the botton off, but the roaster turn off when i do that , what can i do to save the roast and not turn off the machine?
Which model do you have. When you say, you press drop - do you press it in Artisan or at the machine? If you roast with artisan connected, then the roast is saved in artisan after you have pressed off.
Thank you for this tutorial! I just got my Hottop and started using Artisan.

Do you have any videos showing how you can use artisan to completely take over your machine and run a roast off of a set profile?
Yes: ua-cam.com/video/6A3gy9YATeY/v-deo.html
I love your hot top roasting videos. Could you do a video on roasting a decaf?

I agree, it would be great to see this done! Decaf is the worst 😩
