Been on my to purchase list for years. Not sure why I never picked one up. Glad I didn't. Thank you for the leg work .
You're welcome!
Do you baton with your folders? If not, then you shouldn't worry about this knife failing.
There's a 1 minute fix to this issue. The lock is rock solid.
@@AnonymousGameWarden What is the solution?
@@Truelife5354 tap the lock pin 100% down in the seat, repeat the process a few times until it seats fully on its own.
I realize a folder can be used to bushcraft, but I’ll always go with a fixed for any camp chore short of preparing food.
Love the video always but truly hope you sent that Benchmade back 👍👍 great job as always my friend
I have the auto adamas and have never experienced any of these issues. Especially if you have it locked in the open position. Not saying that I have ever used my folder as an axe however, I am pretty rough on folders. I’ve dropped it many times and the auto adamas has never closed unless I wanted it to. Lesson of the day don’t baton a folder, not sure why that has to be said. If you are going to baton your folder, buy the auto and lock it open.
Folders are not mean to split wood 😂 get a hatchet or a fixed blade.
I feel like this knife is not intended to be a bushcraft knife. This is a tactical heave duty knife. This knife was not intended to cut wood. Benchmade makes excellent knifes and this video does not downgrade them at all. Use an axe or a fixed blade.
This "tactical" knife will fold up on your "tactical" hand. You missed the boat brother. The lock is the problem here.
Ok and what do you do with tactical knives? You use em for heavy duty task such as fighting. Now imagine stabbing somebody and accidentally stabbing them in the sternum. Imagine the lock failing on you and your fingers all get demolished while fighting for your life.
@@jmn-5554 FINALLY!!!! That's what I have been saying all along. Please watch this video ua-cam.com/video/_ljnIVJAlFQ/v-deo.html
@@JohnnyJuke like don’t get me wrong I love Benchmade but a lot of these “tacti-cool” folk turn a blind eye on the practicality of the knife because it’s “cool looking”
@@JohnnyJuke No. The problem is this "spinewhack-bullshit". Its a fucking folder, not an axe!
At first I thought that you were digging a burial spot for the Adamas.
I eagerly wait for your analysis of the failure...I might have to re-evaluate my "axis-lock" type folders.
Bwuaaaahaaa bwuaaaahaaa bwuaaaahaaa 😁 😁 😁
go Fixed Blade
XD that is exaclty what I thought too
Very interesting fail especially that this lock should be more resistant to the spinewhack than the regular liner lock or backlock. However the solution to strengthen the lock is also very interesting. You could make a paracord pin or a plastic pin and attach a lanyard. Problem solved. If you know the limitations, then there is no fail. So not a bad knife. Just needs to be reinforced in my view. Who knows, maybe Benchmade will figure out a stop pin like Extrema Ratio Rao.
I think the vibrations along with a weak lock spring and polished back side had a huge part. After all most people spending 220+ on a knife typically dont beat them and send them to a life of luxury of opening envelopes. My favorite still seems to be the 06 auto from gerber, converted to a manual with thumb stud. Im going on about 7 to 8 years and havnt had issues of the button lock opening, I also like the fact I can lock the blade open when Im doing fairly heavy tasks.
I have seen several reviewers show this blade failure. I am glad I have the old version, never saw that with the old tank.
The ORIGINAL is a beast.
No manufacturer would recommend batoning with their folders. You're using it in a way that it was never intended to be used. Not an insightful video! It failed...you don't say! 🙄
Wow, wasn't expecting that. First thought was, no way Johnny was able to break adamas, that's a clickbait :). Was springs okay or you dont want to disassemble it by yourself? p.s you are a king of field cooking.
Bacon and eggs ala Infantry!
@@JohnnyJuke ahhh all the infantry boys are masters of the bacon n eggs!!!!!
I think I commented on your video before but can't find it, I too had the same issue and sent my knife in, the blade is the issue, when they first redesigned the knife they messed up on the angle of the blade at the lock up area, they since corrected it. I sent mine in for lock up issues and it came back with brand new blade and locking components and that part of the blade is at a different angle, now it locks up like a tank or like the older Adamas. I have no issue trusting it now it has done great since I got it back.
They dont return my emails
@@JohnnyJuke Just fill out the online warranty form and send it in and tell them the blade lock up is failing and you heard they made an engineering change to correct it and they will send it back fixed. I think they don't want to reply in emails admitting it was messed up so then someone would share it to everyone. I heard it from a benchmade rep, and yep I sent it in and it came back with new blade etc. good luck with it if you still have it.
You have to use a Cold Steel folder for this type of work if you’re gonna use a folder
I feature many CS knives on my channel.
I corrected this issue in about 3 mins by sanding down where the lock bar meets the knife. You're welcome.
Sent it back. They might have replaced the blade.
What if you're in an emergency and all you have on you is your adamas? You're in trouble because the only good thing the $300 adamas is good for is cutting up bread and opening mail. Benchmade says they made the adamas for hard use, but clearly, it can't handle any hard use.
This is why I don't baton with a folder. It isn't what folders are made to do.
Good thing I went with the fixed version with cru wear. I love my folder adamas but when it comes to being in the woods it fails.
Buck makes the best knives
Exlax makes the best laxative.
My Recon 1 Spear Point S35VN Desert Warrior Edition has the same color blade and scales.
Only difference is that the lock never failed and never will.
Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲
When the lock faces stress, the knife will degrade. I believe the best way to baton is to release the lock from the stress. If you put in a paracord into the hole it will act as a springy buffer sucking up all the vibrations. If you have a fixed lock then it will take the stress. Will develop play in the long run. If the blade is released only the screws get the vibration. What do you think? Is it worthwhile to use the folder in such tasks or just carry a small fixed blade as a splitter?
Hello Johnny!). Another fantastic show. Once again enjoy every still. Bacon on the open air smells amazing!)👏🏻. And pls be careful, take Cold steel with you. Max 4 better. ))). Thanks once again!✊🏻👍🏻
Another channel demonstrated that his Adamas will fail every time from a spine whack. He said that it's a common issue with the new Adamas, and Benchmade is quietly replacing the blades for those who complain.
Really? You're using a tactical knife as a bush craft knife? The first thing you should know if you are using a folding knife to baton is not to baton with it in the open position. This will always cause your mechanism to weaken and eventually fail. You have to use the knife at a 90 degree angle not locked. When you use the folding knives to baton with, you are creating notches in the liners which will result in the lock failing. It's not the design, it's the user. Just because you can use something for everything, doesn't mean that it's the right tool for any of the jobs that you are using it for. Cut your cheese with a sledgehammer while you are at it. Sheesh.
Polly wanna cracker?
This thing would fold up like a cheap lawn chair once it came in to contact with any cheap body armor. Yeah tactical.
TalosValheru: You are absolutely correct. All in all, if you are going to baton wood do it with a fixed blade knife. Never baton with a folder in the locked position. This is not at all a defect of the knife.
Regardless of everything, It's a design/manufacture flaw, a combination from patially coating the back of the blade where the lock bar sits and the use of a thicker lock bar without correcting/trimming the back of the blade where the it sits when the blade is open. The result from this is that the lockbar sits too close to the edge when the blade is open resulting in lock faliure when the knife is subjected to vibrations associated with impacts... Since this knife is for tactical use, Benchmade should revise this problem imediately and offer to repair any knife purchased to date.
The old adamas, in d2, didn't have this problem (check the videos). Regardless of everything, the new adamas, mini and full size versions, will not fail under normal use for a folding knife (the new full size version is a much more capable knife than the d2 model for cutting and slicing just because the blade is thinner). The problem is that, the adamas is suposed to be THE Benchmade full proof tank and while this design problem is not corrected, it is not. Nonetheless, even defauted, the lock is still quite stronger than any Chris Reves and Medford framelock knifes.
Lock security wise for a folder, there is nothing even close to the triad lock. It's really sad that Cold steel has been sold to a company that does not know anything about knives and went back to mass producing low quality knives instead of cutting Cold Steel nonsense self defense line and keep producing and improving some of their models in good and decently heat treated steels... The recon 1, american lawman, and the ultimate hunter in cts xhp and, to be fair, in s35vn are among the best hard working no-nonsense folding knifes ever made, I hope they keep producing them without compromizing their quality, it would be a shame to see something as good as the triad lock going down the drain...
The above being said I'd love to see the triad lock it in a 3rd version of the ADAMAS... It would be very adequate for its intended do it all take it all use, in this Siebert great design.
@@diogoferreira9039 there's an easy fix to this issue that takes less than a minute. There's a video out there on it. It's failing because the axis pin is not seated all the way forward. Once the pin has been broken in and fully seats, it won't fail. Putting something like a screw driver through the side in-between the liners and tapping the lock into the fully seated position a few times does the trick
So, you misused a knife and got cut. That really sucks. It looks like it might be a counterfeit too though.
I like Benchmade folders but they are definitely not hard use. This is disappointing. Have a great weekend
By common sense definition :- no folder is hard use.
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 with respect, I disagree. There are numerous folders that could be considered hard use. Cold Steel, Chris Reeve and Hinderer come to mind. All make models that I own and beat the snot out of regularly.
@@MattP-BandB :- This debate could go on forever, but I believe, as do many others who actually go out into the interior bush...days away from any road, that stout folders (as you mentioned) are great pocket knives. But in the end, when things really count...a fixed blade or small axe are your "hard use" cutlery for the bush. I make no derogatory references to Cold Steel or other heavy duty folders...it is just the terminology of "hard use" folder that bothers me.
For me, as you said if I would be for long far from civilisation, folder would be not good not because it is not strong enough or can break, but because of dirt and sand. If not this, folder is more comfortable.
@@MattP-BandBthat’s like saying you can use a pistol to shoot in 200+ yard competitions. Sure you may pull it off but a rifle would be better. In other words there are better tools for the job.
Oh wow! That one has to go back...not acceptable IMO
For what your paying I think the knife should have been stronger...you weren't even hitting that hard...for hard work you cant beat a cold steel..Awesome Vid!🤘
Adamas should come with a lanyard and stop pin attached to it. It's the only way not to have the blade fold back in place.
New here! Fantastic channel. Very helpful in a cost avoidance way!! Cheers
Despite the hated by most people D2 steel on my Gen I Adamas, I’m going to stick with it. That’s a heavy duty knife. The new ones are garbage!
My Original Benchmade Adamas with the D2 blade is a tank and the Axis lock is bomb proof. Not like the new Adamas with a shorter tang
That sure is an expensive fail!
You got a bad one. Gideons Tactical beat his through tougher wood than that with no problems
batoning with a folding knife. next level derp
Hey Johnny, nice video, not surprised at lock failure with the batoning, but to fail at every spine whack? It didn't look like you were hitting it that hard either.
Agree!!! Baton if I can kinda understand but the spin whacks shouldn’t made it fail so easily
Yeah that's unacceptable.. it wasn't like you was beating the hell out of it.. I don't know if I'd even call that " batoning".. more like tapping lol... And that's not considering the light spine tap fails.. rediculous
They fixed it btw. I think its a new blade. Problem was resolved.
Why use a folding blade to split wood? Get a hatchet or a fixed blade 😂
That's not the point. What if you're in an emergency and all you have on you is your adamas? You're in trouble because the only good thing the $300 adamas is good for is cutting up bread and opening mail. Benchmade says they made the adamas for hard use, but clearly, it can't handle any hard use.
@@johnnyeas1431 I don’t see me self ever stranded in the woods for an emergency 😂 if I ever go to the woods I plan accordingly. I keep a fixed blade in my trunk at all times with a first aid kit. It’s called “BEING PREPARED” lol
@@Airplanetyson Benchmade advertises the Adamas as a "Tactical" folder. How is the Adamas a "Tactical" folder when light pressure on the spine causes lock failure and the blade will shut over you fingers.
You could leave your house with a tank and 19 bodyguards for all I care, but that's irrelevant information. So, you could make all the cheesy smiley faces you want, but the Adamas is still a $300 bread slicer and letter opener because it for sure isn't a hard use tactical folder like they advertise it to be.
@@johnnyeas1431 lol or your just a big cry baby who can’t afford a $300 knife so your trying to find ways to justify not buying it 😂 mine has worked fine. Like they say prep for the occasion. Don’t take a revolver into war, don’t take a pocket knife into the woods. Be a man and not a silly little boy 😉
@@johnnyeas1431 sounds to me like someone is trying to justify why then don’t want to spend $300 😂 if you can’t afford it just say so. Also, you don’t take a revolver to war, you don’t take a bike to the drag race track. Plan accordingly and quit being a little boy and be a man 😂. As an everyday carry this works great for me. Now keep it moving.
Hmmm... I was just talking with a friend of mine about possibly purchasing one of these just yesterday as a potential backup to a proper bushcraft blade. I did not think it would fail as miserably as it did. Yeah, despite any literature to the contrary a folder should not be used in that manner but I'd expect failure MUCH later - as a premature lock failure. Hopefully, this was a one off failure.
Was the knife sent back to Benchmade? I'd be curious to know what they found (they aren't going to tell you).
I never sent it back. I have several videos on this knife and topic.

Thank you; I’ll definitely check them out.

Love your channel, btw! 👍
Ugly, weak, and expensive. What's not like?
helloooooooooo McFly ,. use a fixed blade for that
You've earned a new subscriber due to my brother Matt Pearson, awesome videos , sorry bout your hand glad it wasn't worse ! Made me rethink getting one of these ! They are scarce on ckg anywhow
Welcome aboard my friend. I have since remedied this knife, but at the cost of a nice cut.
@@JohnnyJuke that's good too hear , still crazy how they call that a hard use tactical folder and the lock is that weak , you're right it will tactical fold into your hand if you try and punch through some kevlar with that

Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/_ljnIVJAlFQ/v-deo.html
@@JohnnyJuke I watched it 💯
Knife design issues aside, you slicing your finger open was 100% on you, poor knife safety.
By the way, did they ever fix this issue with a re-design or parts upgrade?
Yes on me. No they never contacted me. I did fix the issue myself.
I'm wondering if this is because this is the version 2 the version one I just bought today and i didn't realize it was version 1 until i realized they realized the only the version 1 came in a black blade I'm a big guy so I'm not sure if the smaller hadelwould be It's a lot better but I am confident with the purchase because the version one is a more proven is they more proven knife and people say it can do anything including cut wood and opened car doors and has been proven to do so without fails now it looks to me the version 2 fails
When you dug that hole I thought you were going to berry the knife I'm at blade show was going to buy one tomorrow now I'm not
You are at BLADE? That is awesome! Maybe you can pass this video off to the designer...lol! Enjoy!
What do you think of the auto though? It has more chunk in the open axis as well as the safety lock. I’d like to hear your thoughts
Simply put, I'd own now if I could.
An old Adamas is better?
Yes
@@JohnnyJuke because the blade is thicker?
Better lock up
@@JohnnyJuke they fixed it
I was hoping the full size adamas would be better but it seems the new benchmade adamas (their so called biggest tank folder) is a pretty weak downgrade compared to the old one
True. The old one has served me well.
Ounces are pounds. You remind me of the new guy in the Vietnam movie Platoon. Books and typewriters etc etc.
Don't bring a folder to a baton fight.
Did they cover it? Just bought the auto
They never replied. I fixed it myself. There's a video on my channel someplace. The lock bar simply needs to move forward more. Break in period helps.
@@AdoboJustLikeDope No. I demonstrated that in another INTO THE WOODS video
Saved me 250$ 👍👍
I have noticed most of all of their Adamas folding have front to back blade play and it’s stupid for the price of the thing
who batons with a folding knife?, the knife is not immune to idiots
Neither are the comments
this film is a waste of time

oh noooo!
05:39 at least its sharp
Your own fault you know, but now you know what said knife can and "Cant" do. I have never and will never split wood with a knife of any size. That's the work for my Tomahawk, which I always carry with me when I'm hiking.
That’s a nonsense. This knife if only it has no defects is able to chop down damn tree, as well as cheap Ganzo axis lock knives. What’s the point of using overbuilt knives then.
Наверно брак попался, или сто то подточил специально, конкуренты может наняли.
use your tool in proper way
When you play with a knife like it's toy and not a tool. You cut yourself. Too Funny! Go buy a Taiwanese blade or Chinese. I have no problems with my Adamas when I respect.
