- A Scottish Island Paradise: What to See and Do on the Isle of Arran
In November, we visited the Isle of Arran - a small island off the west coast of Scotland. We spent five days exploring the island - which boasts some of the most beautiful beaches and landscapes I’ve ever seen. It is also a haven for wildlife - including red squirrels, otters, red deer and common seals. So in this video, I wanted to share my recommendations for things to see and do on the Isle of Arran.

Very nicely done. It was particularly refreshing to have a presenter with a thoughtful, understated style. I’ve subscribed.
I'm on Arran now and thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. Very professional and informative. Thanks for sharing 👍
How amazing my UA-cam video i watch this morning is arran , going there in two weeks and can’t wait, you would not believe I live on west coast of Scotland and never been far as I am disabled, loved the video it even helps people like me 👍
Thanks John, really appreciate the comment, so glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you have a lovely time in Arran!
Beautiful video. I worked nine months in Irvine in 2008-09 and used to visit a friend that was living in Arran several times.
Arran is really good I've been there many times and I recommend going great
I have not been there since 1956. Thank you for your tour.
Awesome video! I love all the details added like the sound effects of the waves. That hike does sound tough! Ah man, it's a shame there was no view but it still looks like an awesome experience. It's great that there are so many red squirrels there! I went to Thormby where we saw many on a school trip. Wow, that drone clip at 4:24 is amazing!
Brompton Cemetery in London, loads of red squirrels 🐿
thank you for this video, isle of arran looks beautiful !
The Kerrs on an island called Arran who would have thought that lol. Clan Kerr was one of the first I was matched with by DNA, the amount of 'Ar' named people and places I have found, love it. Looks like a great Island as well. Going to look into Ardrossan harbour as well now.
I live in ayrshire and I go to arran a lot and this video's very accurate and has all the right facts :) 👍
Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for taking the time to make this great video.
Thank you for mentioning how quickly the bus can lap the island. I am coming for 4 days to Lamlash bay and want to run around the entire irsland.
What an enjoyable immersive presentation! Well done and thanks.
Nice editing, nice non distracting music and commentary. Looking forward to visit there after seeing your video !
Planning to visit with relatives from the Far East. Looks pleasant.Thank you for this video.
This was a great watch. We were looking for information as we’re going there soon and this was perfect 👌 . Really well-filmed and presented. Thanks! 🙌
Thanks so much Liz, I’m really pleased to hear you found it helpful! Im sure you’ll have a lovely time there. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
This was pretty dope man! :)
I cycled round the Isle of Arran in 2016.
I would love to do that!
very nice video, great scenery, thanks for sharing.
James this is so well done. Love the story line and how you clipped it all together. I would definetly be climbing goatfell. Beautiful area. Look forward to future adventures of 2019.
Thank you!
yes, this was a useful and charming video
Really informative and well made vlog. Keep the work going as it’s a hard road but you have a talent.
Was there last month.I especially loved Lochranza. Love Arran! Great video James! Very informative and beautifully done. I'll be back to catch some things that you mentioned, that we missed.
Thank you! Loved the whole place, can’t wait to go back when this is all over!
Excellent video, enjoyed it! Thinking about visiting the Isle of Arran later this year - looks nice.
This was such a helpful video! And beautiful videography! I will be going to Arran in November and I'm looking forward to it.
Thank you Georgia! November was when I visited, it’s a beautiful time of year.
Great shots and video!!
Wow you are so underrated! This video is amazing and you deserve way more attention. I’ve just come home from my 15th visit to Arran and once again it has been amazing. We stay in a beautiful cottage down by the south end (Kildonan) thanks for making this video and you got some beautiful drone footage
Wow 15th visit! You must really love Arran! I’ll have to try and make it down to the south next time. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovey comment - really appreciate it

Great shots and cool video! Liked and subscribed!
Great video. thanks
Lived on Arran my whole life great place to grow up!
I would hopefully one day able to visit these Scottish Isles.
I would definitely recommend it if you can Jeanette. Some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited.
I have considered visiting here so it’s good to have an overview.
I was there in the nineties and was supposed to be for one day but ended up 5 days of drinking and music and I loved it the people were brilliant
Great video - thanks!
Thanks Chris! Glad you liked it!
Fantastic video thank you because I gi to aaran this year
Nice, i like your vlogging style! This deserves more views for sure.
Thank you! 🙏
This is like watching documentary channel on TV
Well done 👍👍
beautiful
I really love your film. When I was on Arran we also had just a bad sight from Goatfell, kinda sad but everything else was great. For me it is still funny that everyone I met on Arran and the rest of Scotland is so excited about the red squirrels. In my Hometown there are about 3 to 5 living around my House and in every Park you can only find the red ones. I grew up and just now the red ones. So I guess your reaction on red squirrels is like mine to the grey ones.
Where are you the theory is the greys took out the reds
Awesome vid James.
Nicely done!
There’s a new distillery on the south end of the island now
It's a nice video! I like it!
Planning to visit arran as a part of my Scotland dairy
Awesome video xx
Amazing video
Great video, I have hit the red button to support your channel.
love this! have been once before and am going again this month, will check out the kings caves! x
Awesome! Definitely recommend it!
That place looks amazing ❤
Thanks! Yeah, it’s beautiful.
Of course it's amazing...it's SCOTLAND.
Grew up on Arran. Left when I was 18 for university. Amazing video man! Especially your love of wildlife. Although never heard Lochranza being described as the Loch of Seals haha! Whilst in Lochranza I hope you caught the Red Deer on the golf course.
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment, Scott. What an amazing place to grow up - so much amazing wildlife and beautiful landscapes right on your doorstep. And yes, I did manage to see red deer! Thanks again for watching, really appreciate it 👍
@@JamesBTravel Totally stunning place to grow up. The winters can be challenging though...but still when the mountains have snow on them it's totally magic! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
How's the midges on arran?
@@andymcphie3008 Can be pretty bad.
Cracking video dude, the good lady and I are heading there in June.
Thanks Sean! Have an amazing time!
Snowing on the Arran hills today. Happy new year 🥳
Happy new year!
Very nice.
I live only 4 miles from Ardrossan. I have been to Arran many times and climbed Goatfell ( on a sunny day) and yes you can see for miles. I have also had the pleasure of cycling round this amazing island.. Why not go to Island of Bute another great Island . You get the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothsay will worth a visit.. Great vid loved watching it..
Thank you Stephen. I’m definitely planning to visit Bute at some point!
@@JamesBTravel take ur bikes with you , round trip is about 28 miles. There are 5 really good climbs on the way round. I cycle this beautiful Island at least once a year.. have fun..
That sounds amazing, thanks for the tip!
nice man! great work :)
Thank you!
Nice to meet dear frnd ..all d best . sty connected🌹💕💥👍
Great photography! I was rowing in Brodick bay years ago and two huge basking sharks came up alongside us!
Wow, I didn’t realise you could see basking sharks there!
@@JamesBTravel They were huge and right in near the shore. Their tail fins rose very high out of the water. It was a bit intimidating at the time.
I would’ve loved to see that!
Nice video
nice work,
heading to arran in september
Enjoy!
Arran Cheese And Ice Cream is the best you can get. (You can buy Arran Ice Cream in the large Asda at Ardrossan and you can fill up with reasonably priced petrol there too. Before and after catching the Ferry at Ardrossan. ) There are swans 🦢 on 5he sea 🌊 at Brodick. There are two Co ops , where you can buy the small tubs of Arran Ice Cream 🍦. Arran is called Scotland rolled into One ☝️ and the grazing cattle 🐮 make them produce the best milk and cream, that is why it’s the best cheese and ice cream 🍦. Lochranza The Seal Bay Campsite 🏕 has Pods you can hire , however they are booked up a year in advance so you need to pre book them well in Advance . There is an Hotel 🏨 there too. You can park lightweight tents , Motor homes and Caravans at Seal Bay Campsite 🏕. Because it is overlooking the sea 🌊Mosquitoes are not as bad as in the rest of Scotland 🏴. A lot of Caravanners have their flag poles displaying the 🏴 flag . At National Holiday Times a lot of Glaswegian Families come to Arran for a holiday ! Nobody could be disappointed with the Isle of Arran , lots of Ferries ⛴ to the Mainland . We bought a tub of Coronation Chicken 🍗, and a tub of Chicken Tikka and cheese topped bread buns from the Co op , and had them with Earl Grey Tea ☕️ And Azira Coffee from the flask , with a Lemon Drizzle Cake 🍰 And a Carrot 🥕 Cake 🍰. The grandson had his Arran Ice Cream . There is also a Chinese And Indian Take Away as well as others.
nice video dude u definitely earned yourself a new subscribers
Thanks buddy, of course. Always happy to support other filmmakers :)
thx bro
must go.
Scottland!!! I want to visit Scotland in March - my next Birthday trip. 😁🏴
Amazing! Which bit are you going to?
@@JamesBTravel I want to visit Edinburgh and take a 3 day bus trip to:
- Eilean Donan Castle
- Glencoe
- Quiraing Mountain Pass
- Old Man of Storr
- Five Sisters of Kintail
- Loch Ness
That is the plan - today. 😁
Maybe alone, or with 1 till 2 friends.
That sounds like a great trip! You’ll definitely love it!
Did you eventually get to Arran?
New Subscriber from Edinburgh
Amazing video !
Was wondering what time of the year you went? I'm thinking of going in August for cycling
I was there in November, but August should still be nice. Have an amazing time!
@@JamesBTravel thanks man !!
What way did you go to climb goatfell
Oh my goodness! Did you go to film 🎞 school or something. This is like a pro doc!
I didn’t go to film school, but I do work in tv documentaries as my day job 🙂
I live here and it is amazing you should have gone horse riding in Blackwaterfoot amazing video well done!
Thank you, Pamela! You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
Goatfell looks like a sleeping volcano, it shapes like a cone.
How are the midges on arran?
I love Arran, many fond memories of being there every year with family as a kid. i'm going alone next month with some weed for a little escape while Scotland's actually got some sunshine haha
Intend to climb Goat fell again. Last time i was there i lost my friend in the clouds who disappeared on mushrooms xD Luckily he didn't die, we found him at the bottom 5 hours later after using a strangers phone who we met building a fire in the darkness on our descent
Sounds like a great trip 😉 have an awesome time next month buddy!
@@JamesBTravel Thanks man, will do, not been over for a few years now so looking forward to it
in the west of ireland we have red squirrels because of the river shannon stopping grey squirrels crossing over
I’ll have to come back to Ireland soon and see them!
Nice edit and storytelling. Shame about the views from Goatfell as they can be spectacular. I took my son up 3 years ago when he was 12 -- 3 years ago today in fact! And the same thing happened. No views. I've never managed to get him to agree to going back up again. One day maybe!
Your drone footage was on point the way. I have to get me one of them!
You should check out Isle of Cumbrae
It’s very high on my list!
Good stuff man, keep it up! Subbed. But if you want to to get much better quality on UA-cam, consider to upload in 2k or even in 4k, even if your your camera just a regular FullHD. UA-cam gives much better bitrate to bigger resolutions.
Is that true? I didn’t know that! Thanks!
@@JamesBTravel yes, it's true. I did a bunch of tests myself and see the results of my advice on other channels
Good to know, thanks for the tip!
Those Cheeses...TO DIE FOR.
I prefer watching area review videos from non natives as it not biased. Arran in winter does not appeal to me though 😆.
We're dose people stop at Arran Hotel Guest House.
Bro can you do another one of these an information video somewhere nice in scotland
Hoping to do another one in Scotland soon, possibly Skye or the Cairngorms.
Thanks you need more subs your vids are so good just been to arran and this video was so helpful for what to do i want to go to skye soon so another vid on that would be great
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words. I’m in Mexico at the moment and will have some new videos when I’m back, then will probably do some more stuff in the UK.
Your welcome that would be great
So... Stop saying so!! Otherwise very good 👏😁
Can I use some of the footage in this video? I’m making a video of my own which I won’t be profiting off of, and it would help!
Sure, go for it 👍
@@JamesBTravel thank you
when I went one of the dogs nearly blew aff the mountain man
Is there a community?
There’s not a huge population, but the people we met were some of the friendliest and warmest people we’ve ever met travelling. At one point, a couple who work in the whisky distillery heard we’d missed the last bus and offered to drive us 45 mins back to our Airbnb.
In blackwaterfoot, kilpatric and Shiskine are a community
Goat Fell isn’t a mountain, are you sure about that 😅
Beautiful video though
Thanks Mark 😊 I think it’s technically a Corbett... I always thought anything over about 700m was a mountain 🤷♂️ it certainly felt like a mountain! 😅
@@JamesBTravel It’s a hill
My name is Arran
Hi Arran
Hi Arran
Good video, however anything of 600 meters is classed as a mountain.
You’re absolutely right, my mistake! 😅
Great edit, beautiful drone footage! Subscribed for more! If you like, check out my channel!
Buses are ok on Arran but it’s much easier with a car.
It's NOT "Lockranza" it's LoChranza.... please pronounce it correctly. We have Lochs in Scotland not locks.
😬 I’ve gotta work on my pronunciations!
